“That’s enough!”

April shouted in frustration.

“He’s just a customer!”

All she did was serve him coffee because he came into the cafe and ordered one. There was nothing remotely romantic about it, despite what Claude implied. She had deliberately stayed out of sight the whole time Zenon was at the cafe to make sure he wouldn’t notice her!

Even after she explained, Claude still looked displeased.

“But you even smiled at him.”

“Ever heard of a customer service smile? Do you really think I smiled because I wanted to? I can’t stand him either.”

“If you really hated him, you should’ve kicked him out.”

“I can’t just throw out a customer because of personal feelings. If word got out, my cafe would be ruined. It hasn’t even been open that long. Why would I stir up trouble?”

“Well, that’s good to hear.”

What was so relieving about that?

As she tried to make sense of his words, Claude pushed himself up from the sofa’s armrest and stood. April stepped back as he moved toward her, but he grabbed her arm before she could escape. Then, as he pulled her in by the waist with his other hand, the space between them disappeared until their faces were dangerously close.

His warm breath brushed against her lips, making her instinctively hold hers in.

A sly smirk tugged at one corner of his lips.

“If you’d serve coffee to a bastard like that, then no matter what I do, you’d serve me too, right?”

…Huh?

“Or is it that you still like him?”

April squeezed her eyes shut and answered.

“Of course, no matter what happens, I have to serve the Duke coffee. That’s what I was hired for.”

‘Was that a good answer?’

She peeked at Claude through narrowed eyes. He was smiling. Of course, the problem was that his smile sent a chill down her spine.

“Good.”

He licked his lips with his tongue.

“I really like that.”

Even though she didn’t know what exactly pleased him, since he looked satisfied, she figured it was best to stay quiet.

A few days later, despite April’s clear warning, Zenon Olsen showed up at Lilies of April again. This time, he brought Count Renoen along.

‘At this point, isn’t he just being a nuisance?’

April took off the apron she was wearing and picked up the tray with their orders. Edmund looked at her with a worried expression.

“You’re really going to take it to them yourself?”

“Yes. It can’t be helped. Keep an eye on the kitchen while I’m gone.”

With a determined look, she passed her apron to Edmund and walked toward Zenon and Count Renoen. The moment she appeared, Count Renoen sprang to his feet in shock.

“Y-You, you…!”

“Keep your voice down. Have you forgotten this is a cafe?”

“You…”

“You wouldn’t want rumors to spread, would you?”

She cut him off bluntly and gestured for them to follow before leading them to the staff break room. The break room was fairly large, set up for employee comfort, with several tables arranged inside. April sat at the table farthest in, and Zenon and Count Renoen took their seats across from her.

Zenon Olson fixed his gaze on her face, a smug grin spreading across his lips.

“Hey, Lily. How’ve you been?”

With her arms crossed, she ignored the pleasantries and cut straight to the chase.

“Why are you here again?”

“What else? I’m here to finish what I didn’t get to say last time.”

“Hah. Didn’t I already tell you I have nothing to say to you?”

“Well, I still have plenty to say.”

Zenon’s gaze swept over her with a strange expression.

“Has everything been fine in the meantime?”

“You say that like you were hoping something had happened.”

“It’s just a friendly greeting. Why are you acting so cold? That’s not like you.”

A friendly greeting? No, he just wanted to confirm whether she was still powerless! April swallowed her sharp retort and answered calmly.

“I’ve always been like this. You just didn’t know.”

The old April had been timid and obedient, always lowering her gaze and muttering, ‘Yes, yes.’ Seeing her like this, Count Renoen’s jaw nearly hit the floor. He looked too stunned to even speak.

Zenon’s face flashed with brief surprise before he smirked and casually twirled a strand of April’s hair between his fingers.

“Well, I have to say, I like this version of you too. No, actually, I like it even better. A woman’s got to have some charm. Being completely obedient is just boring.”

April smacked his hand away with a loud slap.

“Spare me the nonsense. I’ve been doing just fine. I hope you haven’t.”

Zenon burst into laughter.

“Sorry, I’ve been doing great.”

“Why are you here anyway?”

“What else? The Count wanted to see you, so here we are.”

At Zenon’s signal, Count Renoen abruptly clasped April’s right hand between both of his. To her, he was nothing more than a middle-aged stranger now, so the gesture made her skin crawl. She immediately tried to pull her hand away, but his grip was surprisingly firm, keeping her trapped.

“April, I was wrong.”

“What do you mean?”

“Everything. I was wrong about everything. I’ll let you do whatever you want, just come back already.”
