Chapter 53.1

Claude reached out his hand, his face showing signs of dissatisfaction. However, April, who was focused on gathering mana in her hand, didn’t notice his expression.

“By the way, is your magic lesson going well?”

April responded with little enthusiasm.

“No.”

A few days ago, she had started learning magic from Albert, the Duke’s family mage. Albert, excited to have a new student, handed her a huge stack of magic books. Of course, with her being so busy running the cafe, there was no way she could read all those books. She couldn’t even keep up with the lessons.

“I’m still going to give it my all. I can’t keep sneaking into the Duke’s room at night forever.”

She had been using a secret passage, known only to the butler, to get in and out of Claude’s room. It was to avoid being seen by the servants. Thanks to that, she had managed to stay undetected, but the idea of being alone with Claude in the middle of the night still bothered her.

And the sight of him with a few buttons undone wasn’t doing her heart any favors either. April stared at the upper part of his abs, as smooth and defined as chocolate, before quickly squeezing her eyes shut.

“Anyway, I’ll get to it soon. I also want to serve the customers coffee with magic in it.”

“To the customers?”

Claude raised an eyebrow.

“Is that really necessary?”

“Because I want the customers to be happy.”

“You’re really…”

“Really?”

“Never mind.”

Claude muttered something under his breath and shut his eyes. Rather than questioning him, April focused on channeling her mana.

Before long, he fell asleep.

She wiped the sweat that had gathered on the bridge of her nose and stood up. Her gaze shifted back to Claude’s bare skin. The flickering red light from the candle in the dark room cast a soft glow over his body, and the shadows seemed to make his chest muscles appear even more defined.

April swallowed without realizing it. Then she tensed up, almost expecting Claude to wake up at any moment and say, ‘What’s with that suspicious gaze?’

But Claude didn’t wake up. He seemed to be sound asleep.

This time, April shifted her gaze upward to his face. It was the first time she’d ever seen him so vulnerable. His usually furrowed brows were relaxed, and his lips were slightly parted. Without thinking, she reached up to brush the stray hair from his forehead but quickly snapped back to her senses.

But despite herself, her eyes kept wandering to the open buttons of his shirt. She shut her eyes tightly and turned her head away.
