I Became the Villain's Master - Chapter 17
Chapter 17
* * *
The nation’s founding day was approaching. As the day drew near, I found myself venturing out to the city more often.
“Rosette, thanks to you, my workload has decreased a lot.”
“Oh, it’s nothing. It’s just a way to make a living.”
I handed over the completed tasks to Celia and received my payment. The angelic Celia even provided a generous bonus for me to spend during the nation’s founding day.
‘Money is the best!’
Lately, I’ve been working a lot, sacrificing sleep to get through the tasks. It was because the commoners entrusted me with their clothing requests in preparation for the nation’s founding day, which only happened once a year.
“But I’m making a lot of money.”
Although the work was exhausting, I was truly happy. I would do anything for money!
I strolled through the city, humming a tune. The city had noticeably changed in the past few days. Security had been strengthened, and the sparkling decorations brought joy to the eyes.
I embraced the exciting feelings and stopped at a stall selling gummy bear-shaped candy.
‘Is this what Louis was talking about?’
I had given the candy I received from Louis to Sion. Sion accepted it with delight, saying it was delicious.
I thought, There must be a reason why Louis praised it so much, as I took out my wallet and pondered.
‘I have money on me, so why not try it?’
But my contemplation was brief. I earned the money I have now, so it was only right to treat myself!
I immediately approached the street vendor selling candy bars.
“I heard gummy bear candy is very famous. Is that true?”
The vendor smiled and nodded in response to my question.
“Yes! They’ve been incredibly popular lately. Just a while ago, someone came and bought almost all the candy bars I had for the nation’s founding day.”
“Really?”
Could it be? I pictured Louis with his brown hair in a robe, vibrant eyes, and a face being dragged away by Helena by the hair.
“Was it someone tall with brown hair and brown eyes?”
“Oh? Wow, spot on. Miss, do you know that person?”
“….”
Had he not returned to the magic tower yet? It was fascinating how Louis, who’s shown a strange obsession with candy bars, came to mind.
“Then just give me two, please.”
I bought two candy bars—one for me to taste and the other to give to Sion. With my wallet in hand…
Clank!
“Huh?”
Was someone grabbing my wallet and running away with it? I stood there dumbfounded for a moment, slowly realizing the situation, and then shouted.
“Hey! That thief!”
How dare they lay their hands on my sacred wallet! I can’t just stand there and watch my most treasured possession disappear.
“Please report it to the security guards.”
The street vendor nodded in response to my request.
I patted my skirt and chased after the thief, my eyes widening in disbelief.
“Hey!”
The lanky man deftly maneuvered through the crowd, seemingly experienced in pickpocketing, evading people left and right.
He turned his head slightly to look at me, smirking with a taunting expression. It’ll be a challenge for me to follow him, even if I can.
The chase continued. After a while, when the man turned a corner and disappeared, I leaned against a wall, panting heavily.
“Haa… Where am I?”
Before I knew it, I was standing in a dimly lit alley with scarce sunlight. I wanted to turn back due to the eerie atmosphere, but I had to find my money.
Looking around for the man and fidgeting as I did, a voice from behind startled me.
“Are you looking for this?”
As I turned back, I noticed the man who had pickpocketed me earlier now staring at me with a gang of his and laughing.
“Hand it over!” I extended my arm, undeterred, and glared at them. The man grabbed my wrist firmly as he whistled.
His unpleasant touch made my face naturally crease. The man looked at me with interest and said, “Looks like you still haven’t grasped the situation.”
Only then was I able to assess the circumstances. In other words, in novels, there’s often a female lead who falls into a trap and faces a crisis. Now, I too have found myself in such a predicament.
But the difference is, there’s no male lead who’s coming to rescue me, is there? Read ahead here.
