“So, Sera, go ahead and choose. East, West, South, or North. And how many times?”
But it was too cute to let it go. Sera seriously considered Rosé and Ferre’s request and, after much thought, chose ‘South’ and ‘three times’.
“South! Three times.”
Rosé tapped the enchanted paper fortune teller three times. The well-folded paper floated in the air, opened its flaps, and revealed the result.
“It’s a girl!”
Helios chuckled.
It was a moment of mixed emotions.
“Yay! A girl!”
Rosé, who wanted a niece, jumped up and down.
But Ferre, pouting, looked disappointed. At that age, children often preferred their own gender.
“Oh… well, it can’t be helped.”
* * *
After Rosé and Ferre left to give them some alone time, only Sera and Helios remained in the room.
They looked at each other quietly, and once they were sure the children were far enough away, they burst into laughter.
“They were adorable, those two.”
“They were so serious about believing in that fortune-telling.”
“But it’s good to see they are paying attention in their magic classes.”
“Exactly.”
Feeling drowsy again, Sera yawned deeply. Noticing her fatigue, Helios looked at her with a concerned expression.
“Are you sure you’re not overdoing it? If it’s too much, you can let someone else handle your work at the academy. No one would blame you.”
“I know. But it’s not really that much.”
Sera smiled at Helios, reassuring him that there was no need to worry.
The academy was set to have its first graduation this winter, and much of the preparation had been done well in advance, leaving her with little to do now.
“I heard the drowsiness will pass soon.”
Sera said in a slightly languid voice.
Helios, sensing she was about to take a nap, quietly moved behind her.
“How is your morning sickness?”
With practiced ease, his hands began to unbutton her dress. Although her belly wasn’t showing yet and she didn’t feel too uncomfortable, Helios always wanted to take care of Sera in these small ways.
“Well… it varies from person to person. Some women experience it until they give birth.”
“Ah, that sounds really tough.”
“I think so too.”
“I hope it ends soon.”
Helios sighed deeply and rested his head on Sera’s shoulder.
Seeing his somber expression, Sera stroked his hair. She knew how much he worried about her.
Her morning sickness was quite severe, and unfortunately, it was one of the few things that divine power couldn’t alleviate.
Helios gently caressed Sera’s belly. Though it wasn’t showing much yet, he still made it a habit to rub her stomach every time.
Sera quietly felt his gentle touch. Suddenly, her curiosity was piqued when she saw the East, West, South, North paper fortune left by Rosé and Ferre.
“Heli, do you prefer a daughter or a son?”
Both of them had been looking forward to and expecting this child, but they had never discussed the baby’s gender.
Today’s conversation with Rosé and Ferre made her wonder if he had any preference.
Of course, he would love the child regardless of whether they were a boy or a girl.
“Well, I haven’t really thought about it.”
“Hmm…”
“If I had one wish, it would be for the baby to resemble you more than me, whether they’re a boy or a girl.”
“Why’s that?”
Surprised by his unexpected answer, Sera asked.
“Because you’re more beautiful than I am. Plus, it would be delightful to see a little version of you.”
Helios nonchalantly spoke words that made her blush. How did he manage to say such things without changing his expression?
“And you?”
“Me? Hmm… I think…”
She hadn’t considered the baby’s appearance before.
After a moment of thought, Sera arrived at the same conclusion as Helios.
“I think I’d like a child who looks just like you. A little version of you would be adorable.”
“Hmm. Really?”
Helios chuckled softly as he helped her change into comfortable indoor clothes, buttoning her dress while whispering in her ear.
“I have a good idea.”
“A good idea?”
“We’ll have a child who looks like you, one who looks like me, and one who’s a mix of both.”
He gently lifted her and carried her to the bed.
His sweet lullaby was soothing.
