Side Story 15

The news of Sera’s pregnancy spread swiftly beyond the palace, reaching the entire empire. Given that it had been a long time since the birth of new imperial family members since Rosé and Ferre, public interest was immense.
Within days, articles speculating about a new royal family member circulated, and from that day on, the palace was flooded with congratulatory cards and gifts.
Surprisingly, the ones who enjoyed the influx of gifts the most were Rosé and Ferre. After returning from the academy, their daily routine became opening gifts after finishing their homework.
Although they were not particularly interested in the contents of the gifts, they loved unwrapping the boxes.
They described it as feeling like receiving birthday presents every day.
Their skill in unwrapping gifts improved so much that they could now neatly fold the wrapping paper and ribbons.
Of course, this did not mean that Rosé and Ferre’s primary interest shifted to gift boxes. Their main concern was always the baby that Sera and Helios were expecting. Soon, all their sentences began with, ‘Sera, what about the baby…?’
The books they brought for reading also changed from fairy tales to titles like ‘How to Take Care of Babies’, ‘Fun Games with Babies’, ‘Baby Food Recipes’, and ‘Baby Encyclopedia’.
It was surprising, but Helios diligently read these books to Rosé and Ferre, sometimes seeming more like he was studying rather than reading to them. While Sera reclined in a comfortable chair to rest, the three of them would diligently read and study for the baby.
“They should be here soon. They come as soon as you call,” Sera told Helios, who was spending the afternoon with her for the first time in a while.
Since her pregnancy, Helios had been trying to spend as much time with her as possible.
“Knock, knock!”
“Sera, it’s me and Rosé. Can we come in?”
Rosé and Ferre, who had been running, slowed to a tiptoe at the door to avoid startling the baby. Sera watched them fondly, and Helios smiled with delight.
“Oppa’s is here today too?”
“Hi, Hyung!”
After briefly greeting Helios, Rosé and Ferre approached Sera, their faces showing excitement and a readiness to share something important.
“Sera, do you know what we learned today?”
“Today, we learned how to tell fortunes!”
Rosé and Ferre hurriedly explained, bouncing with excitement.
“Fortune-telling?”
“Yes, fortune-telling!”
Was there such a subject at the academy? Maybe it was some kind of magic that she was unaware of. Sera glanced at Helios for an answer.
Helios, gently holding Sera’s shoulder, whispered in her ear.
“It might have been a thing in the old days, but not anymore.”
Helios explained that it was an unreliable subject that hadn’t been taught for a long time, shaking his head.
But both Rosé and Ferre were too excited to be dissuaded.
“Wow, fortune-telling? What kind of fortune-telling is it?”
“Yeah, I’m curious, Rosé, Ferre.”
Rosé and Ferre became even more enthusiastic.
Having observed many children, Sera could tell that Rosé and Ferre had been eagerly waiting all day to show their ‘fortune-telling.’
“We’re going to find out if Sera and Helios’s baby is a boy or a girl.”
“A boy or a girl?”
“Right. Sera! We learned this today.”
Rosé and Ferre pulled out a piece of paper they had hidden somewhere. They folded it diligently into a familiar shape, writing East, West, South, and North on it, and even cast a spell they presumably learned during class.
“Here, Sera. Now choose.”
Sera and Helios were quite taken aback. The game of ‘East, West, South, North’ was an ancient, light-hearted form of divination, but in reality, it was just a children’s game.
Noticing the meaningful smiles and slight confusion on Sera and Helios’s faces, Ferre spoke up.
“I know. But Araella came to our magic class today and taught us that this is a credible form of fortune-telling.”
“And Araella asked if anyone had ever tried it for real, and Edward said he did.”
“Edward said he predicted the dinner menu with it, and it really was steak for dinner!”
“Nana also tried it and said her prediction was correct!”
Sera and Helios pressed their lips together to keep from laughing and tightened their grip on each other’s hands.
It was a method Sera had often used before. Adding a little embellishment made the children more engaged.
The innocent Rosé and Ferre, and perhaps all the kids in the class, were completely convinced, making the class a success.
Helios gave Sera a knowing look, recognizing the familiar technique.
