Side Story 14

Divine power could heal almost any illness except in rare, extreme cases. There should have been no reason for her to be unwell.
Could it be another curse?
Helios had already experienced something similar a year ago.
He would never forget the suffocating feeling, like being trapped in a dark abyss with no way out.
“What about Rosé and Ferre? Are they alright?”
“They are safe. They were moved to the secondary palace immediately.”
At least his siblings were okay. Helios, heart heavy with anxiety, hurried his steps.
* * *
“Your Majesty!”
Someone shouted as soon as Helios burst into the bedroom where Sera was. Though many tried to speak to him, he heard none of it. His focus was solely on Sera.
“Sera!”
Helios strode to the bed where Sera lay.
“Your Majesty?”
Sera looked at him with slightly puzzled eyes.
He had expected her to be unconscious, but she seemed surprisingly fine, albeit a bit pale.
“You ran here? It’s chilly outside in the evening, and you’re sweating… Your hair’s a mess….”
Sera even laughed at his disheveled appearance.
Of course, he had run as fast as he could to see her.
“I heard you collapsed. Are you alright?”
He struggled to catch his breath as he asked.
Sera’s eyes widened at his words. Then her expression softened, understanding why he had rushed over so frantically.
“That… that story got exaggerated. I just felt a bit queasy and threw up.”
“Queasy?”
“Yes… I suddenly felt nauseous looking at the food. I’m fine now, really. You don’t need to worry.”
Sera smiled, slightly embarrassed, and Helios realized she meant it. He let out a relieved, albeit exhausted, laugh.
But she was alright, and that was all that mattered.
Helios, calming his racing heart, sat on the edge of the bed where Sera was reclining.
The doctor, who had been standing nearby, bowed hastily.
“Your Majesty.”
“If the Empress is well, you may go.”
The doctor hesitated but then bowed again.
“I have something to tell you…”
The elderly doctor remained despite being dismissed. Bowing repeatedly, he seemed to have something important to say. When Helios met his eyes with a curious look, Sera suddenly interjected.
“I… I want to say it.”
At Sera’s unexpected statement, Helios looked at her. He instinctively felt he was missing something. There was an important fact he didn’t know.
“Your Majesty.”
Sera reached out her hand, which had been neatly folded over her stomach, and grasped his. Her previously pale face now had a rosy hue. Her smiling face gave him a good feeling, as if she had good news.
If she had felt unwell, could it be…?
At that moment, there was a commotion outside.
Thump, thump, thump!
The noise outside grew louder.
Both Sera and Helios turned their eyes toward the door.
A knight entered and quietly reported the situation outside.
“Their Highnesses Rosé and Ferre have arrived. They were too worried about the Empress’s condition to stay in the Star Palace…”
“Oh my.”
Sera looked at Helios with a surprised expression. Through the crack in the door, they could see Rosé and Ferre anxiously pacing.
Before Helios could decide, Sera made a suggestion.
“I’m fine, so please let them in, Your Majesty.”
Helios gave a slight nod to the knight.
The door opened, and Rosé and Ferre, their eyes red, rushed in.
They seemed so grown-up, yet at times like this, they were still children.
“Sera!”
“Sera!”
“How are you feeling?”
“Are you alright?”
“Did you eat poison?”
“Did Oppa heal you with divine power?”
“You’re not going to die, right?”
“You’re really okay, right?”
Rosé and Ferre began to wail, and an awkward silence filled the room.
Sera spoke up before it was too late.
“I’m fine. The reason I felt unwell during dinner today was because of morning sickness.”
“Morning sickness?”
“What’s that?”
Rosé and Ferre tilted their heads in confusion.
Sera hesitated a bit, then explained with a happy face.
“I’m pregnant. That’s why I felt nauseous.”
“A baby?”
“A baaaaaby?”
“A baaaaaby!”
“Really? You and Oppa?”
“We’re going to have a niece or nephew?”
Sera nodded. Then she looked up cautiously at Helios.
Helios was smiling brightly.
“Congratulations, Your Majesty!”
“Your Majesty, it’s a cause for celebration!”
“Congratulations.”
“Congratulations, Your Majesties!”
People in the room finally started to give the long-awaited congratulations. They bowed repeatedly, and some even shed tears.
While the excited twins spun around in celebration, Helios also smiled and stood up.
“Congratulations, my Empress.”
