Side Story 11

The time flew by quickly, and the day of the tea party arrived.
The tea party, held in the palace garden, was filled with foods and drinks that children loved, and the decorations of flowers and balloons were lavish.
Normally, Ferre would have been thrilled.
Although he seemed a bit better than before, Ferre still looked somewhat deflated today. In contrast, Rosé was the complete opposite—she’d been elated for days with her new dress and shoes.
“His Highness Ferre looks a bit gaunt.”
After giving a speech and receiving greetings from various nobles, Sera spotted Ferre and murmured to herself.
Helios had been worried too, and since the start of the even, he’d been keeping an eye on Ferre whenever he had the chance. Ferre had fallen in love for the first time, and it was so adorable to see, but it was also quite heartbreaking.
“My thoughts exactly. He’ll get better over time, right…?”
“Hopefully?”
Seeing how much this affected him, Sera and Helios thought Ferre must be quite the romantic.
After greeting some familiar faces, they sat at a distance, watching Rosé and Ferre.
The two seemed to have made many friends, as they were now playing on the lawn with several children.
It was a different scene from their birthday party a year ago, when there had been a major incident, showing how much the children had grown.
“They’ve made a lot of friends.”
“I think the academy has something to do with that.”
“It’s more because of their good personalities.”
Watching Rosé and Ferre playing brought relief to Sera and Helios, who exchanged smiles and laughs.
However, it seemed that Ferre couldn’t hide his feelings. He frequently glanced at Lily and tried to be near her.
“It seems Ferre can’t take his eyes off Lily.”
“Lady Lily doesn’t seem interested in Prince Ferre.”
Helios and Sera couldn’t bear to watch anymore, feeling sorry for him, and they exchanged sympathetic smiles.
But the situation took a turn in the next moment.
* * *
Lily Ferna fell.
She was playing on the lawn.
It wasn’t unusual.
Children often fell, and Lily Ferna had simply been unlucky while playing tag.
But there was a thud, and as children shouted “Lily!” and “Lady Lily!” from all around, everyone’s attention was drawn to her.
The adults who had been sipping tea at shaded tables turned their heads to see what was happening. The palace attendants, Sera and Helios, and Count and Countess Ferna all focused on the fallen child.
Fortunately, it seemed their worries were unnecessary as Lily quickly raised her head, indicating she was fine.
The count and countess were about to rush to their daughter, but they paused after seeing she wasn’t hurt.
However, despite not being injured, Lily’s clothes were a mess.
Her yellow dress and long white socks, which she had worn for her visit to the palace, were smeared with dirt and grass, as were her face and hands.
Lily realized that everyone was watching her in this messy state. Embarrassed by the attention and her dirty appearance, her face turned pale with humiliation.
Rosé and Ferre were the closest ones watching her.
“Lady Lily…”
Seeing Lily’s tearful expression, Ferre didn’t know what to do and began to fidget. Just as he was about to call for an adult, he met Rosé’s eyes.
Rosé had seen a lot and instinctively knew what was needed—it was exactly when Aushuvel had helped Sera with Helios in the past.
Without hesitation, Rosé pushed Ferre with her small hands. Ferre, propelled by her push, stumbled backward and ended up sitting right in front of Lily.
“Your… Your Highness Ferre…”
Lily looked at Ferre with teary eyes.
Ferre hesitated for a moment, then knelt on one knee and extended his hand to her.
“A…Are you okay?”
Lily didn’t respond.
“Does it hurt a lot?”
Ferre gathered a bit more courage, holding her hand as he asked.
Lily shook her head to indicate she wasn’t in pain.
Then Ferre used all his strength to pull Lily up.
Having seen Helios do these things for Sera many times, it wasn’t hard for him to mimic the next steps.
Ferre gently brushed the dirt off Lily’s dress. His small, clumsy hands didn’t remove all the dirt, but that wasn’t important.
“Your Highness…”
Lily’s tear-filled eyes began to turn into hearts.
Ferre knew this was a crucial moment.
“L-Lady Lily, y-you’re still pretty even with dirt on you.”
He whispered with great courage.
Lily’s eyes widened.
“R-Really?”
“Yeah, really.”
“So, it’s okay.”
Lily suddenly hugged Ferre tightly.
