Chapter 296

At Sera’s question, the three froze up again. Ferre, worried about being caught, grabbed Rosé’s hand.

Unable to stall any longer, Helios decided to shift the conversation back to Sera.

“By the way, Sera, how did you get here?”

“Me? I was…”

Sera looked at Rosé and Ferre.

“I didn’t know where His Majesty was… The kids said they would bring me to where His Majesty was. But I waited and they never came, so I got worried and started looking around myself.”

“Were you looking for me?”

Sensing his siblings’ actions were awkward, Helios gave a slight smile and approached Sera.

He gently grasped her shoulder and turned her towards him, and she faced him without noticing anything amiss.

“Yes, I did find you but…”

“You missed me in the meantime?”

With a teasing question, Sera stared at him and then chuckled. Her head tilted slightly to one side.

“No, it’s not because of that.”

“Really?”

“Well, if you ask like that, maybe a little?”

Sera replied with a smile to Helios.

Seeing that Sera’s suspicions had eased, Helios finally breathed a sigh of relief internally.

“I’m glad to hear you missed me, even if just a little.”

Helios lightly kissed Sera on the cheek.

Watching this, Rosé and Ferre squealed and soon each grabbed one of Sera and Helios’s hands.

“Shall we go inside now?”

The four of them stayed at the banquet a while longer.

Being the guest of honor, Sera couldn’t leave too early.

Throughout the banquet, Sera and Helios fielded questions about their relationship.

They answered evasively, but with the celebrated couple of the saintess and the emperor right there, no one was willing to let them go, and people kept holding them back.

Rosé and Ferre played a big part in their eventual escape from the barrage of questions.

Thanks to the twins pretending to be very sleepy, people finally gave up and let the four of them go as the banquet was ending.

Helios and Sera joked that without Rosé and Ferre, they might have been held captive until dawn.

After taking the twins home and watching them sleep for a while, Helios and Sera left the auxiliary palace.

Helios said he would escort Sera back to her place, and the two of them walked hand in hand through the quiet palace.

It was a night showered with stars. Every time the spring breeze blew, it carried the fragrance of flowers with it.

A perfect spring night, neither too chilly nor too hot.

It was Sera’s last night in the palace before she had to return to her original home.

Feeling like it was the right moment to propose, Helios cautiously inhaled.

While Sera wasn’t looking, he discreetly reached into his jacket pocket to take out the ring.

“It’s already the last day.”

Sera suddenly turned around to face him.

At the same time, Helios quickly withdrew the hand that had been reaching into his inner chest pocket.

“That’s right.”

“But this time, I feel less regretful. From now on, I can come to the palace just to see you without needing any special reason, Heli.”

Sera spread her arms wide, smiling happily.

Although it was indeed fortunate, Helios couldn’t bring himself to respond empathetically because, frankly, he was too nervous.

“Sera.”

Helios called her with a calm and serious voice.

“What is it, Heli?”

He took a deep breath inwardly.

And, as he was about to kneel on one knee, preparing to finally voice the words he had been swallowing inside, he wondered whether it was fortunate or unfortunate that Sera had no clue.

Before he could even kneel, Sera clapped her hands loudly enough to wake the night.

“I have something I’ve been wanting to brag to you about!”

Today, Sera was as clueless as Ferre usually was.

While Helios waited, Sera carefully pulled out a card from her handbag.

The card was scribbled with clumsy handwriting that looked to be from a child no older than Rosé and Ferre.

“Helios, look at this, see? I got this from Marchioness Bennett today, it’s from her son. He called me a hero! He said that he couldn’t believe his teacher is the saintess…! He said it’s just so cool….”

Sera, who had moved closer to his side, chattered as she showed him the card.

Suddenly a card. The romantic atmosphere swiftly changed to a lively, bright mood.

Helios was momentarily at a loss for words due to Sera’s unexpected remark.

“It seems to be a letter from Edward.”

But soon, seeing how proud Sera was, he found his words again.

Although he was disappointed that he couldn’t proceed with his planned proposal, the moment for such words had already passed, and Sera looked too joyful.

“Yes! Edward still misses me so much!”

“Really? Rosé and Ferre would be jealous if they heard that, wouldn’t they?”

Ultimately, Helios listened to Sera gushing about Edward’s card all the way to her bedroom door.

And about her enthusiasm and plans for the upcoming headmaster position at the academy.

Of course, from his perspective, these were certainly things to be grateful and happy about.

But today, his feelings about these topics were a little mixed.

“Thanks for walking me back, Heli.”

As they reached her room, Sera naturally kissed him, wrapping her arms around his neck.

Would she know how difficult it is for someone to receive a kiss at the bedroom door like this?

Helios thought she probably didn’t realize as he whispered to her.

“See you tomorrow morning.”

Helios struggled to wind down when he returned to his own room.

The ring case he had been carrying in his jacket, which had dominated his thoughts all evening, seemed to make sleep even more elusive.

Watching from afar as the lights in Sera’s room went out, he found his room’s lights didn’t go out either.

That was the moment he made up his mind.

Helios immediately stepped out of his bedroom and gave an order.

“I need to drink wine. Prepare two glasses.”

The servants, maids, and knights were taken aback by Helios’s sudden command, but they nodded in agreement.

As he re-entered his bedroom, putting the ring back in his pocket, Ferre’s words suddenly flashed through his mind.

“A ring and flowers! That’s important, Hyung!”

On an impulse, Helios decided to add another order.

“Fill the room with flowers where the wine is prepared. Right now. Full. Overflowing with flowers. Do your best.”
