“Why? Both of you. It’s okay for people who like each other to kiss. No need to be so embarrassed. I understand it all.”
Sera, panicking that someone might overhear, frantically waved her hands.
Then, glancing at Helios for his reaction, she blurted out a strained excuse.
“It’s not that. Something got in my eye… His Majesty was just about to blow it away.”
“Eh? That doesn’t make sense. Then she shouldn’t have closed her eyes. Sera was closing hers.”
Quietly until now, Ferre interjected with a logical rebuttal.
Very flustered, both Sera and Helios were left speechless.
Even if Rosé might have guessed, the fact that Ferre also realized it was worrying.
The thought that they might casually mention seeing kisses elsewhere made both Helios and Sera dizzy with apprehension.
“Rosé, Ferre. First…”
Helios, thinking he must somehow smooth things over, rubbed his forehead.
Then, from the very bottom of the tower, the knights began shouting very loudly.
“Your Majesty, there’s an urgent matter. May we come up to speak with you?”
Helios leaned over the railing to peer down.
Giving a nod to the knights below, two sturdy men hurriedly ran up the stairs.
“Your Majesty! It’s an emergency. Someone came from the Star Palace and said—!”
“Their Highnesses are missing. Your Majesty needs to quickly go to the Star Palace—!”
The knights, breathless from climbing dozens of steps so rapidly, suddenly halted mid-sentence.
Their eyes were fixed on Rosé and Ferre.
Helios and Sera also stared intently at the twins.
The children, realizing they were caught, stood on tiptoe and averted their gaze far out the window.
“By the way, how did you two get here? You were supposed to be sleeping.”
“Roseline. Ferreritan. Don’t tell me you both snuck out from the Star Palace?”
“Um… umm, Heli Hyung…”
“Umm, Oppa, Sera. Let me explain everything.”
Helios sighed deeply. The situation was all too clear without needing further questions.
“Go back for now. You there, go back to the Star Palace and tell them that the twins are with me, so there’s no need for a search team. We’ll discuss the rest later.”
He gestured to the knights to leave.
However, being human, he couldn’t hide a slight sharpness in his tone, slightly angry with the staff of the Star Palace for not properly watching over his siblings, and the knights for not properly keeping watch.
The knights, sensing the iciness beneath the emperor’s usually warm eyes, quickly bowed and apologized.
“We convey our deepest apologies, Your Majesty.”
“Our apologies, Your Majesty.”
“That’s enough, go down now.”
He wanted to scold them properly, but in front of the children, it didn’t seem right to reprimand someone, so Helios restrained his words.
Guessing that there would be a reprimand later, the knights flinched and hurriedly descended the stairs.
Only Rosé and Ferre remained, unaware of the gravity of the situation, still giggling brightly.
“Why are they running away like that, Ferre?”
“It’s like they’re saying, ‘Run away, save yourself!’ while they’re going down, Rosé!”
Helios exhaled a heavy breath at his cheerful siblings’ antics.
He bent down to match the twins’ eye level and chided them in a gentle voice.
“It’s not good that you snuck out. Because of you two, the knights and the staff of your palace were put in a difficult position.”
“Ummm… Oppa…”
“Hyuuuuung… ummmm…”
Knowing their fault, Rosé and Ferre wore uncomfortable expressions.
They cautiously looked towards Sera, seeking her help.
Sera slightly opened her mouth to give the children a hint.
‘Say. I. Am. Sorry. And, I. Was. Wrong.’
Even without sound, it was clear what she meant. Rosé and Ferre read Sera’s lips.
The twins repeated to Helios as they had learned.
“We are sorry, Hyung.”
“We were wrong, Oppa.”
“I won’t do it again.”
“Me neither.”
They spoke with downcast faces, and Helios, with a weary smile, gently stroked their heads.
He glanced at Sera and asked with his eyes.
‘These little troublemakers… what can we do, right?’
‘Of course. They’re still children. We have to teach them one thing at a time. That’s the role of adults.’
Sera and Helios nodded at each other. He then hugged his siblings and whispered.
“But since we’ve come all this way, shall we all go look at the stars together?”
“What? Really?”
“We can go too?”
“Of course.”
Excitedly bouncing on their feet, the children received confirmation from Sera too.
Helios and Sera stepped aside, letting the energetic kids rush ahead.
Joyful and full of energy, Rosé and Ferre scampered up the stairs in their pajamas.
Following quietly behind, Helios seized a moment when the children weren’t looking to gently take Sera’s hand.
“Sera, just a moment.”
He whispered in a voice only she could hear.
“Why?”
Sera stopped climbing the stairs to look at him.
“It seems the little interrupters aren’t watching right now.”
Helios whispered tenderly, moving closer to Sera’s face.
Then, very lightly, he pressed his lips to hers.
Startled by his sudden move, Sera’s eyes widened.
“Looks like a deeper kiss will have to wait until next time.”
Sera’s heart fluttered in anticipation of what the next date might bring.
