I Became the Only Cure for My Dying Husband - Chapter 6
Chapter 3.2
Edith looked at the candy Khalid had given her and sighed in relief.
“Why was I so worried?”
She squeezed her eyes shut, recalling the anxiety that had consumed her over the past few days.
Now that she had the duke’s approval, it was time to focus on retrieving the Ice Flower’s power.
Before the heroine arrived.
‘Once Helena appears, I’ll be kicked out for sure.’
Edith and Lucion’s relationship had always been the worst of the worst.
As long as Helena existed, the two of them could never be together.
Edith had endured an abusive childhood, and she’d always been jealous of Helena—who, unlike her, was loved by everyone.
Why do I have to be miserable, while you get to be so happy?
That jealousy turned into resentment, and resentment soon twisted into the ugly emotion of hatred.
Lucion treated Edith like an insect. A pest that needed to be crushed.
Lucion, who loved Helena, and Edith, who resented and hated her.
They were like oil and water. They loathed, despised, and couldn’t stand each other.
Just like now.
“Why are you here?”
Edith smiled awkwardly as she faced Lucion standing outside her door.
“This is my room.”
“Hah, even though I told you I didn’t want you near me, you still took the room next to mine?”
Lucion’s face twisted in anger.
‘He already hates me.’
Lucion glared at her, and Edith, having nothing to say, could only watch as he turned on his heel to leave.
She hurriedly followed after him.
“Young master, I know you don’t like me. I’ll keep to myself and try not to bother you.”
“Just you being in that room bothers me enough. What do you plan on doing about that?”
Lucion snapped harshly, but Edith’s attention was elsewhere.
‘His condition is worse than I thought.’
His skin was pale, dark circles hung under his eyes, and his lips were colorless. On top of that, he was wearing thick clothes entirely unsuited for the season.
It was May, with flowers in full bloom, but Lucion looked like someone trapped in the dead of winter.
“Hey, what are you staring at?”
Lucion snapped, irritated by her scrutinizing gaze. Then he noticed the candy in her hand and let out a frustrated sigh.
“…What does he expect me to do with a kid? Tsk.”
“Just so you know, young master, I’m the same age as you.”
Edith subtly reminded him, as if saying, “You’re a kid too.” Lucion’s eyebrow twitched in response.
“You’re fourteen?”
“I turned fourteen a month ago. You just turned fourteen last week, right?”
Technically, Edith was older than Lucion—by a whole month.
“That’s creepy. How do you even know that?”
It was clear that he had no real comeback, so he tried to change the subject.
“Do you seriously plan on marrying me?”
“Yes. That’s why I’m here.”
“Hah!”
Lucion scoffed, his lips twisting in disdain, his hostility on full display.
“What if I don’t want to?”
“You’ll still have to. I just got Father’s approval.”
“What? ‘Father’?”
“That’s what he told me to call him.”
“You’ve got to be joking.”
Lucion sneered at her, slouching as he mocked her. But without even realizing it, he had already crossed a line he’d drawn himself.
“You really don’t get it, huh? Do I need to curse at you to make myself clear? I told you to get lost!”
He loomed over Edith, his presence menacing, but instead of backing down, she took a bold step closer to him.
“I’m not going anywhere.”
Her whisper caught Lucion off guard. She was so close.
“I’m the only one who can break your curse, young master.”
His eyes flickered at her words, and Edith once again felt the cold, icy wind she had sensed the first time they met.
So this is where it is.
Edith’s gaze dropped to his chest.
The cursed flower that freezes everything it touches. The only herb that could save Edtih’s life.
The Ice Flower grows like any other plant.
It takes root, sprouts, buds, and blooms…
And on the day the Ice Flower fully blossoms, Lucion will die.
And when she loses the Ice Flower, Edith will lose her life too.
‘I can’t let that happen.’
No matter how much Lucion despised her or tried to push her away, Edith wasn’t going to give up.
“Young master, I’m sure I can help you. Let me prove it.”
Edith reached out her hand, hoping to bring him a moment of peace in his fragile state.
But instead, she only made things worse.
