I Became the Only Cure for My Dying Husband - Chapter 28
Chapter 14.2
“You’re going to retrieve it though, aren’t you?”
“Of course.”
If it weren’t for that insolent young lord, he would’ve taken it right then and there.
As Agni recalled the encounter, Lucion’s snide comment about him being a pervert echoed in his mind.
His vertically-slit pupils narrowed in irritation, and he clicked his tongue, staring at his reflection in the window.
“Ah, this embarrassment is causing my eyes to have a mind of their own.”
Pressing his fingers against his eyelids, he forced the golden glow in his eyes to dim, returning them to normal.
“At least there was some fun while I was locked away in prison. But being the Master of the Magic Tower? Boring as h*ll. What am I supposed to do, Crow?”
“Most people don’t get to live their lives doing only what they want.”
“Well, I’m not like most people, am I?”
And neither are you.
Agni smirked, glancing at the large, birdlike shadow stretched out behind Crow.
“It’s a figure of speech. Get used to it.”
“Wow, so cold.”
Despite his playful tone, Crow could tell his master’s mood was still sour. He quickly stepped in to redirect it.
“How about visiting the Frost residence?”
“Hmm?”
“The duke asked you to teach his daughter-in-law magic, remember?”
“His daughter-in-law? You mean that little girl from earlier?”
“Yes. She’s the one who made Henry quit within a week.”
Ahh, now it’s all coming back to me.
That idiot Henry had come to him crying, babbling nonsense about quitting.
[So I was thinking, why not take a look at her yourself, master? She’s got real talent. A diamond in the rough. Wouldn’t you agree?]
[Khalid’s daughter-in-law? Ugh, sounds like a hassle. I’ll think about it…]
And then he’d completely forgotten about it.
“That kid’s a fire mage?”
“According to Henry, yes. And it seems they’re not having much luck finding a tutor. This could be the perfect opportunity.”
“Get in touch with the duke.”
“Right away, sir.”
Agni began humming a tune, his earlier annoyance now a distant memory.
“This should be interesting.”
Agni chuckled to himself.

Time flew by, and summer had arrived for Lucion and Edith.
“That’s all for today’s lesson. Be sure to complete the homework I’ve assigned.”
“Okay.”
“Yeah, yeah…”
As soon as the lesson ended, Edith slumped over her desk.
Just as her head was about to hit it with a thunk, Lucion used his hand as a cushion. He was used to this by now.
‘How did things end up this way?’
His earlier resolve to keep everyone at arm’s length had slowly faded and disappeared entirely.
Edith had once been a constant annoyance, but somewhere along the way, she had become a friend. Someone his age he could tolerate.
“Pull yourself together.”
“It’s way too hot…” Edith whined, rubbing her forehead against Lucion’s hand.
“That tickles.”
“Just a little more…”
Wilting under the summer heat, Edith mumbled, “That feels nice.”
“I bet. You’re practically using my entire arm as an ice pack.”
Lucion glanced at his arm, which, though still attached to him, seemed to have lost all autonomy. He let out a dry laugh.
Edith ignored him shamelessly, treating his arm like it was hers.
“You look so ugly right now.”
Lucion laughed at her flushed face, and Edith clicked her tongue in annoyance.
“You look fine.”
She wasn’t being sarcastic. He really did look fine.
Thanks to Edith’s persistent care, Lucion’s face now had a healthy flush of color that had never been there before.
And don’t even get me started on his wardrobe.
The day Lucion had finally swapped his coats for a short-sleeved shirt after an entire year of hiding in layers, I’d actually shed a couple of tears.
It really was a good thing. A great thing, but…
‘This isn’t what I imagined.’
Edith had vowed to make Lucion crave her warmth, but somehow, it was the other way around now. She was the one clinging to him.
“Is it like this every summer?”
“Yup.”
To be fair, this year wasn’t as bad as previous ones.
Because Lucion was by her side.
Back when she lived at the count’s estate, there had been summers when she’d be stuck doing all the laundry herself.
Sure, it was tough work, but at least she’d had the cold stream to keep her hands cool all day.
Compared to that, this was paradise.
“How are you going to survive like this every year?”
“I won’t. I’ll die without you.”
Lucion reached over and pulled her nose.
“Ow! That hurts!”
“Don’t say stuff like that so carelessly.”
“But it’s true…”
Pouting, Edith shuffled closer to Lucion until she was snuggled right up against his side. The familiar winter breeze of his scent tickled her nose.
When her head plopped onto his shoulder, Lucion quickly pushed it away.
Maybe the heat was getting to him too, because his cheeks were slightly flushed.
“Get off me.”
“Nope. You’re my bamboo wife.”
“Your bamboo… what?”
Lucion let out a disbelieving laugh, half-amused and half-concerned that the heat might’ve fried her brain.
“If anyone’s the ‘wife’ here, it’s you.”
