Chapter 14.1

“And stop speaking so formally. Everyone already thinks I bully you.”

Take Simon, for example. After Lucion had carried her back when she was injured, Simon’s first question had been whether he’d hurt her.

“Alrighty~! I’ll stop!”

“It’s late. We should get moving.”

With that, Lucion turned and strode off.

As he walked ahead, his ears noticeably reddened.

Edith felt her own cheeks grow warm. A shy smile crept across her face.

“Wait for me, Lucion!”

In the distance, Oscar stood beside the carriage, waiting patiently.

When he saw Lucion approaching at rapid speed, Oscar greeted him with a smile.

“Master Lucion, Miss Edith. How did the blessing ceremony go—”

BAM!

The carriage door slammed shut, cutting him off mid-sentence. Oscar chuckled nervously to himself.

“Ah, he’s in one of his moods again.”

Well, his master’s temper was nothing new.

‘That’s what I get for being curious. I should’ve asked her instead.’

Turning to Edith, who had just caught up, Oscar cautiously asked,

“Did something happen during the blessing ceremony?”

“No, everything went fine. Lucion isn’t angry, he just—”

“Edith! Stop saying weird things and get in the carriage already!”

“Coming!”

With an awkward smile, Edith apologized and quickly climbed into the carriage, spurred on by Lucion’s urging.

Oscar blinked in disbelief as he was left standing alone.

They’re calling each other by their names? And they’re speaking casually too?

What on earth happened in there?

“This is going to cause a stir once people find out…”

And Oscar’s prediction proved to be entirely accurate.

“Lucion, wait! Let’s walk together!”

“What am I supposed to do about your short legs?”

“You’re barely taller than me!”

“Now you’re just being delusional.”

The servants waiting to welcome Lucion and Edith back stared in shock, their mouths agape, as the two bickered their way toward them.

Even Khalid, who had come to greet them, shared their sentiments but kept his composure as the head of the household.

“Lucion, did everything go smoothly?”

When Lucion brushed past him without so much as a glance, Khalid raised a brow.

“We’re back,” Edith said politely, stepping forward to greet Khalid.

Khalid’s expression softened, and he gave her a warm smile, patting her head.

“Well done. Did everything go well, my dear daughter-in-law?”

“Yes.”

“What’s gotten into Lucion? I hope nothing happened at the temple?”

“No, we managed just fine.”

“That’s good to hear.”

Leaning down slightly to meet her gaze, Khalid studied her face carefully.

“Earlier, I noticed that you two were calling each other by name.”

“We’ve decided to start using each other’s names. Oh, and we’re not speaking so formally anymore.”

Khalid’s lips twitched in amusement. So that’s why Lucion ran off. He’s embarrassed.

“And Lucion suggested this?”

“Yes. He said since we’re married now, we should speak that way.”

The servants nearby covered their mouths, trying to hide their grins, but their smiles peeked between their fingers.

Khalid was no different. These little ones are simply too precious.

In a voice laced with laughter, Khalid asked, “And do you like that?”

“Yes, I love it!”

“Haha, you’re absolutely adorable.”

Unable to resist any longer, Khalid pulled Edith into a hug.

Edith stiffened briefly in surprise, but then she slowly returned the gesture, wrapping her small arms around his neck.

As he gently patted her back, Khalid thought to himself, Forget daughter-in-law, I should make her my daughter.

Meanwhile, Agni, the Master of the Magic Tower, was in an utterly foul mood.

He had just been thoroughly disrespected by a boy he considered no more significant than the dirt under his fingernails.

In all his years, he had encountered countless situations, but this was a first.

“Master, please calm down. It’s understandable that the young lord misunderstood the situation earlier.”

“Whose side are you on?”

The sudden sharpness in Agni’s tone made the windows rattle.

But Crow didn’t so much as blink.

“When a man draped head-to-toe in a robe approaches someone suspiciously, it’s only natural he’d mistake you for a pervert.”

“You’re comparing me to those filthy perverts whose nether regions I personally sliced off?”

Me… I…

Agni froze in shock at his own words. Crow silently handed him a glass of cold water, urging him to snap out of it.

“Not to that extent, but you should’ve lifted your hood and approached her more carefully. Girls her age tend to scare easily.”

“Hmph. If she’d seen my face, she would’ve followed me around like a lost puppy.”

Agni slicked back his bangs and smirked confidently. Crow turned away, his face pinched as though he’d bitten into something sour.

‘Not even close.’

“Still, we did find the fragment, so it wasn’t a complete waste.”

“True. Though why it ended up there is beyond me.”

Agni’s thoughts wandered to the fragment lodged in Edith’s heart.

A long, long time ago, he had gifted it to a particular clan. He never imagined it would end up in the chest of some random child.
