I Became the Only Cure for My Dying Husband - Chapter 11
Chapter 6.1
It was best not to engage with people like him.
“Alright, let’s go.”
Edith obediently followed Simon to the infirmary.
“I’ll be running a few tests to check on your health. How are you feeling? Do you feel alright?”
“Yes, I’m fine.”
“What a brave young lady.”
Seizing the momentum, Simon quickly laid out his tools and suggested they get started.
He measured her height and weight, took a blood sample, checked her teeth, and conducted vision and hearing tests, among other things.
How much time had passed?
Simon rubbed his chin thoughtfully, now holding the test results.
“Hmm, you’re shorter than average for your age, underweight, and have a serious nutritional imbalance. You’ll need to focus on eating a more balanced diet.”
As expected, her condition wasn’t great.
Seeing Edith’s downcast expression, Simon let out a hearty laugh.
“Don’t worry about it too much. It’s not ideal, but if you eat and rest well, you’ll improve in no time. You might even grow taller.”
“You really think so?”
“Of course! You’re still growing, so you’ll catch up to Master Lucion soon enough.”
Simon added, with a mischievous grin, that girls tend to grow faster than boys during adolescence, and that she should hurry so that she can tease Lucion about it.
“The other notable thing is that your body temperature is higher than average…”
Simon expressed his amazement once again.
“His Grace mentioned it, but to see someone with the exact opposite body temperature as Master Lucion is honestly astonishing.”
Though he didn’t make it too obvious, Simon seemed aware of the role Edith was expected to play.
“Do you feel any discomfort?”
“Aside from feeling hot all the time, not really. I’ve been like this since I was little.”
“Well, our Master Lucion has the opposite problem. His body temperature is too low, but when you’re together, it’s like you balance each other out perfectly. Maybe you two are destined for each other.”
Simon smirked, and Becky sighed at the inappropriate remark.
“Simon, please.”
“Ahem, ahem.”
Realizing his mistake after Becky’s scolding, Simon quickly adjusted his crooked glasses and apologized.
“We’ll need to run a more thorough examination later. There are many things I’d like to check.”
Behind his glasses, Simon’s eyes gleamed as he looked at Edith with curiosity.
“Simon, that’s enough.”
“Oh, come on, Becky. I’m speaking purely as a doctor.”
Just as the atmosphere started to get strange, Edith was nervously glancing between the two when she suddenly noticed the smell of something burning.
Sniffing the air, Simon’s eyes widened, and he bolted toward the back of the room.
“Aghhh! My new medicine! It’s burning!”
His frantic shout echoed, and Becky frowned, patting Edith’s shoulder.
“Don’t mind him. He’s always like that.”
“Should I just go, then?”
“Yes, you’re free to leave.”
Before leaving the infirmary, Edith glanced back to see Simon on his knees, crying out in despair over his ruined concoction. She shook her head.
There really were a lot of strange people in the duke’s household.
✦ ✦ ✦
A few days passed.
“Hello, young master.”
“Ugh! You again?”
“Yup, I’m here again today.”
After discovering that Lucion spent most of his days in the library, Edith made it a habit to visit him at the same time every day.
“Tsk, you’re nothing but a stalker.”
“But I’m a pretty useful stalker, don’t you think?”
“You really don’t ever back down in a conversation.”
“I’ll take that as a compliment.”
Though Lucion was clearly irritated by her daily visits, he never actually chased her away.
And despite his annoyance, he never left the room, either.
That was a huge step forward.
‘Just being in the same room is progress.’
Satisfied with the situation, Edith quietly released her power.
While it wasn’t as effective as direct contact, it still helped warm him up.
Lucion, however, was more perceptive than anyone when it came to changes in the air.
“Hey, what did you do this time?”
“What do you mean?”
“Don’t play dumb! Are you a mage?”
Lucion asked, his eyes flicking toward the magic book in her hands.
Edith looked up, surprised by his sudden interest. It was the first time Lucion had shown curiosity about her.
Her usually calm eyes sparkled with excitement, lighting up like stars in the night sky.
Startled by the drastic change, Lucion took a step back.
“W-what?!”
“That’s right. I’m a fire mage.”
“A fire mage? You?”
Edith’s lips twitched, annoyed at his dismissive tone.
