Despite Being an Extra, I'm the Villain's Childhood Friend - Chapter 63.2
Chapter 63.2
“His Highness, the Crown Prince, is quite the dashing figure, you know.”
‘Of course, I know that.’
Arsen’s appearance, as described in the original story, was impeccably handsome, befitting a male protagonist.
“Though, not as handsome as me, of course.”
Izeline swallowed hard at his wink and the softly added remark.
‘He’s not wrong…’
Shaking herself out of her momentary daze, she responded awkwardly.
“I still have much to learn about magic.”
‘And I have no intention of going to the capital without Robert.’
She left the latter part unsaid, sending a pleading look towards Gerald. He was tied to Souvri because of his research on Robert’s Krug, and as his apprentice, Izeline was bound to stay and learn magic as well.
A single word from Gerald could end this conversation. However, instead of helping, he crossed his arms, lost in thought.
‘Honestly…’
‘He never steps in when needed.’
As she inwardly grumbled, Michael continued his subtle persuasion.
“A brief visit to the palace wouldn’t hurt, would it?”
Izeline’s lips pressed together. Getting close to Arsen was something she wanted to avoid at all costs, especially after the unsettling dream she’d had last night.
Then, Robert scoffed.
“Why? So you can introduce her as your fiancée?”
“Is that what you’re worried about?”
Michael’s retort was laced with amusement, but the contents of the letter continued to linger in his mind.
‘What is His Highness’s intention?’
The letter was filled with greetings, but the gist was this: ‘I wish to meet this Izeline.’ Why he’d been so roundabout, Michael couldn’t understand.
“Robert.”
Gerald, who had been stubbornly silent, finally spoke. Robert, still fuming, shifted his gaze. But the words that followed made him forget his anger, his crimson eyes trembling slightly.
“If your Krug is cured, will you go to the capital?”
“…Cured?”
The words were strained, barely a whisper, revealing the depth of his longing.
“Exactly. Cured.”
Gerald’s index finger pointed directly at Robert’s heart.
A heavy silence fell, so profound that even breaths seemed to vanish. Izeline’s gaze darted between the two men, her expression grave.
‘What does this mean?’
In the original story, Robert’s Krug remained incurable, but Brioche still sponsored the Magic Tower’s research on Krug. That hadn’t changed, even with the altered course of events. This meant Brioche had a connection with Gerald in the original story as well.
‘What prevented Gerald from succeeding then, and what allows him to succeed now? Or has he truly succeeded? Can the method he believes he’s perfected actually cure Robert’s Krug?’
A wave of unease washed over her.
“Is… is the healing magic truly complete?”
Robert finally broke the silence, his voice stiff.
Gerald slowly lifted his chin, glancing at Izeline as if sensing her gaze before returning his attention to Robert.
“Under the right conditions.”
His voice was crisp and businesslike, the words etching themselves into Robert’s mind.
“What conditions?”
He asked, his voice thick with desperation.
“You don’t need to know. I’ll take care of it.”
“….”
His crimson eyes flickered like those of a restless child. This moment, the moment he had yearned for, longed for, was finally here. He couldn’t stay still. Excitement, impatience, hope, and yearning warred within him.
