Despite Being an Extra, I'm the Villain's Childhood Friend - Chapter 61.1
Chapter 61.1
Crown Prince Arsen’s letter was, above all else, irritating.
“What’s this?”
Michael tilted his head, puzzled by the cool tone.
“It’s a letter from His Highness, the Crown Prince.”
His expression clearly asked, ‘What’s the problem?’
He hadn’t finished reading it yet, but there was no reason for Robert to be angry about a simple letter. But still….
“This, this right here.”
Robert tapped a specific spot on the letter, his expression icy. Michael’s composure wavered, his face slowly flushing with confusion.
“Daughter-in-law…?”
Izeline’s eyes widened as she focused on the same spot. The unexpected mention of a daughter-in-law left her bewildered. The letter didn’t mention a name, but she was the only girl Michael’s age living with him.
‘No, it can’t be. Count Karif wouldn’t take such an interest in an ordinary commoner. He must be referring to some noble lady I don’t know.’
She tried to remain calm. However, Michael’s next words shattered her efforts.
Michael averted his jade eyes, a troubled expression on his face. Then, as if coming to a decision, he put on a brazenly nonchalant smile. While he was surprised that Arsen remembered their conversation from five years ago so clearly, he hadn’t done anything wrong.
“Oh, this?”
He grinned at Robert, whose eyes were narrowed dangerously.
“I told you from the moment I arrived at Souvri.”
Robert’s eyebrow twitched.
“That I found someone who’d capture Father’s heart.”
He abruptly turned to Izeline, a brilliant smile lighting up his face as he gently took her hand. Caught between the two boys, each holding one of her hands, she was bewildered.
…What was going on?
“I told you Father wanted us to be close. Don’t you remember?”
“I… I do.”
Of course, she remembered, but she hadn’t realized this was what he meant.
Her green eyes trembled.
She couldn’t understand what was happening. There were supposed to be changes from the prophecy, but marriage with Michael…?
Then, her eyes widened.
“Oh…”
Michael smoothly pulled her hand closer and kissed the back of it. Lifting his head slightly, his gaze fixed solely on her, he said, “If you’re willing, I…”
“Whoa!”
Izeline yelped as she was suddenly pulled in the opposite direction. Robert had yanked her other wrist.
Michael frowned, his moment interrupted.
“You still don’t know when to butt out?”
“For whose benefit?”
Robert retorted sharply, and then his expression softened miraculously as he turned to her.
“Izeline.”
He uttered, his eyes drooping at the corners.
“My wound might reopen. It hurts.”
It was no wonder, considering the force he’d just used. Izeline sighed and, as if she had no choice, rolled up his sleeve.
“You have to be careful until it’s completely healed.”
And then, she kissed the injured area.
Michael’s eyes widened.
That was the wound he had inflicted just yesterday. The pride he’d felt from winning their sparring match plummeted.
Could it be…?
‘She hasn’t been doing this every time I hurt him, has she?’
While Izeline’s head was lowered, kissing his arm, Robert smirked triumphantly at Michael. However, as soon as she looked up, he put on a pitiful, near-tearful expression.
Michael’s lips twitched at the blatant act.
Kissing it better? What kind of relationship did they have? They were just childhood friends, weren’t they?
“Ahem.”
Heint, who’d missed his chance to leave and had been enjoying the children’s love triangle, coughed to stifle his laughter. He now noticed that even the maids in the distance had stopped to watch.
“Tsk, tsk.”
Gerald, too, was watching with his arms crossed.
He wanted to point out that Michael could just heal it with magic, but it was strangely entertaining, so he let it be. Judging by their behavior, the kissing seemed so routine that healing magic hadn’t even crossed their minds.
