Despite Being an Extra, I'm the Villain's Childhood Friend - Chapter 60.2
Chapter 60.2
Even though the words she wanted to argue back with were piling up, Izeline forced them down. She knew that if she protested, Gerald would flawlessly demonstrate the formula and then scold her even more harshly, asking what was so difficult about it.
Being a mage was an extreme occupation. It required a lot of brainpower and artistic skill.
And all she got to draw were boring geometric patterns!
Gerald secretly smiled as he watched his student correcting the magic formula with a sullen face. She wasn’t as talented as he was, a genius, but teaching her was quite rewarding.
A little further away, the two boys, pretending to read, were also sneaking glances at Izeline. She was the busiest of the three, which meant they had little time to spend together. That was why Robert and Michael had followed her to the garden, armed with books as camouflage.
Robert grumbled.
“Isn’t she a genius already? Why does he have to be so hard on her?”
He frowned, leaving the rest of his complaint unspoken. Michael, unusually, nodded in agreement.
“Exactly. She’s already perfect.”
Looking at her haggard face as she crouched down, Michael clutched his chest dramatically as if his heart was about to burst from her sheer adorableness.
“Idiot.”
Robert, whose heart actually could give out at any moment, muttered an insult.
Just then, a shadow fell over the chuckling Michael. He looked up to see Heint, the butler, standing there.
“A letter has arrived for Young Master Wilbright.”
Michael blinked in surprise as he received the envelope, recognizing the seal.
“Thank you.”
He immediately tore open the envelope and unfolded the letter, revealing elegant handwriting. Robert sat up, his eyes gleaming with curiosity.
“Who’s it from?”
“Uh, it seems to be just a letter asking how I am. And when I’m coming back to Ernon.”
“So, who…?”
Robert’s casual question was abruptly cut short, his expression crumpling. Someone had suddenly come to mind.
“Don’t tell me it’s from that crown prince bast*rd?!”
His outburst startled Izeline, causing her mana to falter just as she was activating the magic formula.
Whoosh!
A magic arrow shot towards Michael’s forehead as he was reading the letter.
“Gasp!”
Michael twisted his body at the last moment, his heart pounding. He then looked at Izeline with a look that said, ‘How could you do this to me?’
Heint, standing beside him, was equally startled.
And… Robert silently glared at Arsen’s letter, now embedded in the tree trunk alongside the arrow of light.
Flutter.
A gentle breeze rustled the paper.
Amongst the black ink, a single sentence caught Robert’s eye.
[ How are things going with that girl Viscount Karif wanted you to marry? ]

“Hey! Are you not focusing?!”
Thwack!
Gerald’s fist landed on the top of Izeline’s head.
“Ouch!”
Izeline, properly bonked, teared up, clutching her head with both hands. However, guilty as charged, she couldn’t whine about the pain.
She apologized to Michael, who had just narrowly escaped death.
“S-Sorry.”
Even as she apologized, a wave of nausea washed over her. The letter from Arsen had arrived right after her nightmare, making her uneasy.
Had it not been just a bad dream? Uneasily, she wondered what kind of coincidence this was.
As she anxiously approached Michael, he, despite still being shaken, softened his expression, concerned about her darkened complexion. Then, extending an arm dramatically, he recited a line from the book he’d been reading as if performing a play.
“For you, I would gladly offer my heart.”
He’d quoted a passage from the scene featuring a tragic character he’d just been reading.
Robert’s already crumpled expression soured further. On the other hand, even knowing it was a joke, Izeline felt her heart ache at the sight of the frail, beautiful boy.
She was reminded once again that his appearance was hazardous to her eyesight.
“Are you alright? You seem fine since you’re joking, but… Ow!”
At that moment, Robert grabbed Izeline’s wrist, stopping her from touching Michael. He was annoyed by her hand reaching out to Michael and by the maids swooning over the pretty boy.
