Despite Being an Extra, I'm the Villain's Childhood Friend - Chapter 59.1
Chapter 59.1
Chapter 6 — A Time of Upheaval
A dank odor drifted from somewhere. The stench of blood cut through the musty air.
‘Where am I?’
Lost in an unfamiliar place, Izeline wandered around a gray tower without a trace of fear. Suddenly, she realized she was freely passing through walls and flying through the air.
‘Have I been overdoing it with magic lessons? Even so, passing through walls is impossible.’
Warping or teleporting might be possible, but phasing through walls with a physical body was absurd. Besides, she wasn’t even circulating her mana.
Just as she wondered how this was possible, she realized her soul was floating freely, like a ghost. Instead of being shocked, Izeline simply accepted the situation with a mental ‘I see’ and navigated the air like a fish.
She ascended through the ceiling to the floor above, where someone came into view.
The source of the blood.
“A life as tenacious as a cockroach.”
The man murmured in a low voice, a sneer twisting one corner of his lips.
Blood-red eyes flashed amidst his jet-black hair. Blood flowed freely from a gash on his arm.
‘Robert!’
Izeline cried out in shock. But her cry didn’t reach him. Despite the fact that she tried to run to him, to check if he was alright, her spectral hand passed right through him.
‘Robert! What happened?!’
She called out, almost wailing, but he stared blankly ahead, seemingly oblivious to her voice. Standing before the grown-up Robert was a silver-haired man.
‘Crown Prince Arsen!’
Izeline was aghast, recognizing the man Robert should never have faced.
“I should be the one saying that, Robert von Armati. Or rather…”
Arsen continued, holding his sword, Caliptus, askew. Robert’s blood stained the blade.
“Traitor to the Empire.”
“….”
“Guilty of murdering Duke Armati. Guilty of rebelling against the Imperial family.”
“….”
“And guilty of kidnapping and harming Saintess Livny.”
“Hardly more than a scratch.”
Robert scoffed.
Arsen’s presence radiated a chilling aura. Caliptus, bathed in the moonlight streaming through a small window, gleamed as if thirsting for blood.
Clang!
Whirr!
It happened in a flash. The clash of their swords sent a strange resonance through the air. The whirlwind of mana between them pulverized the surrounding brickwork.
‘No. No. No.’
Izeline knew what was coming.
A new blade sprouted from Caliptus, like a branch from a tree.
Robert’s eyes widened.
“That heart is the root of all this.”
Then, I shall eradicate the source. The unspoken words seemed to echo in Izeline’s ears. Arsen’s blue eyes fixed on Robert, cold and predatory.
Robert tried to retreat, but it was too late.
Thud!
“Ugh!”
The silver blade, swift as lightning, pierced Robert’s heart.
‘Aaah—!!!’
Izeline screamed, the pain mirroring his. Her mind swam with agony. Even then, she was more worried about Robert than her own death. Even as he coughed up blood, his emerald eyes searched for his precious childhood friend.
His body crumpled.
Torn clothes revealed jagged, dark scars, quickly obscured by the cascading blood.
‘Rob… ugh…’
Knowing she couldn’t reach him, Izeline crawled towards him, clinging to his form.
