Chapter 45.1

* * *

The Audience Pass was an object exclusive to those of the royal bloodline who were in line for the throne, and it was said to be bestowed only on individuals with a very close relationship to the noble bloodline.

For example, a prime minister who frequently discussed important matters with the emperor or a close friend who shared a strong bond of trust.

There was a precedent where an emperor, regardless of status, had given the Audience Pass to a noble of a humble family who had built a friendship with him, but it was the first time a commoner had received it.

“Didn’t he get the plaque when he was crowned as the crown prince?”

Izeline muttered to herself, fiddling with the audience pass, thinking about the detailed setting that had never been mentioned in the original story.

From now on, she could go see Arsen whenever she wanted. Even the guards who protected him would step aside like a miracle of Moses if she just showed this.

Why did Arsen give the Audience Pass to a commoner girl he had never met?

Later, Michael would tell him the details of what he had told him, though it was hardly enough to catch the crown prince’s attention. There were stories like her eloquent speech that swayed Duke Brioche and the incident where she escaped from the slave trader, but even so, it was clear that it was excessive attention.

‘Did he give this to Livny, too?’

The two protagonists meet after they turn twenty, so even if he did, it would be something that would happen after time had passed.

Lying in bed, she stared blankly at the Audience Pass, her fingers tracing the fine patterns.

“This wouldn’t have any effect, would it?”

Honestly, she was anxious.

Why did she feel like this object, as Robert had initially feared, felt like a silent pressure to see him at the imperial palace? Of course, Michael said it wasn’t like that at all and that she really just had to keep it, but…

‘Isn’t Michael too nonchalant?’

Ordinary people would be surprised to receive something like this, especially if it was bestowed upon a commoner by the Crown Prince, who was higher than the heavens.

“The Crown Prince told you to receive the Audience Pass without any burden. He said it was just an expression of his desire to meet you someday.”

Yes.

Let’s not be burdened.

That was the Crown Prince’s far-reaching intention. Not to be burdened.

Recalling Michael’s words, she tried to interpret the situation in her favor, but soon, she closed her mouth tightly.

“….”

The faint sound of her inner voice tormented Izeline more and more.

He said he ‘wanted to meet her.’

…No less than the Crown Prince to a commoner girl.

“It’s a situation where I should be burdened enough!”

Eek!

She was going crazy!

She grabbed her head with both hands and kicked off the covers.

It didn’t mean she had to go up to the Imperial Palace to see Arsen right away, though it meant that they would meet someday.

Then, she would be introduced to Livny, Robert would be involved, they would have a falling out with the Crown Prince, Robert would kidnap the heroine, Arsen would go to the Tower of Magic in anger and awaken the Caliburnus, and in the end, a sword fight would break out…

“No!”

Izeline grabbed her hair and screamed at the horrible ending that had come to her like a domino effect.

Click.

Just then, the door opened, and someone peeked their head in.

“What’s wrong?”

It was Robert, who had come well-prepared. He was in his pajamas, staring at her with half curiosity and half concern.

“Rob!”

She was startled and raised her upper body. Surely he didn’t hear all my muttering, did he?

As she watched his face to see if he noticed her tingling feet…

Robert seemed to be subtly nervous. He sat on the bed, staring at Izeline for a moment before closing the door behind him. Then, he immediately approached and took the seat next to her.

Plop.

The bed sank, and a faint scent of soap wafted through the air.

Did he just take a shower?

A strange charm flowed from his youthful face.

Izeline stared at the boy’s face as if she couldn’t help herself, but then she came to her senses at the voice that pierced her ears.

“What were you thinking?”

It wasn’t a question.

The low-pitched voice was accusing. The heavy atmosphere stemmed from the Audience Pass that Izeline was clutching tightly.

“Oh…”

She reflexively clenched her hand at the red gaze that seemed to pierce through the audience pass, but there was no way she could completely hide it with her small hand.

Robert, who had been glaring at the part that was sticking out between her fingers, finally reached out.

“Ignore it.”

His voice was angry, but his hand was gentle as he wrapped around her hand and slowly spread her fingers one by one.

“You don’t need to go see him.”

When her hand was completely open, Robert grabbed the pass as if he was going to crush it.

It felt like something dangerous was about to happen.

“It makes me feel bad.”

“….”

Izeline held her breath quietly.

He had already harbored hostility towards Arsen even though they had never met face to face. She thought Robert had a happy childhood and that the original story had been twisted a lot. Were the two of them really polar opposites?

His gaze stared at her deeply like a snake.

“Don’t think about that bastard.”

“Not that bastard, but the Crown Prince…”

“Why would he send this to you when he doesn’t know anything about you?”

Swoosh.

Izeline couldn’t continue. She was just surprised and opened her mouth like a goldfish.

“Hey, you…”

What did he just do?

Her confused green eyes fluttered aimlessly.

“There are many nobles and friends your age in Ernon, so why is he after you… Ah!”

“Are you crazy?!”

As Izeline narrowed her eyes and shouted, Robert cradled his head, confused.

“Are you angry because of that guy you’ve never even met?”

She asked, her eyes wide with disbelief.
