Chapter 140

Translator: Yonnee

—

It felt strange.

I remembered how, not long ago, I had been sobbing in Dietrich’s arms, saying I wanted to leave.

< All I want is one thing—for you to set me free. >

“Why me? You could have asked Dietrich.”

< Only you can do it. >

I still had my doubts, but with no other options, I accepted the contract.

Thus, the contract was sealed, and I received the guidebook from the administrator of the fourth floor.

It was fascinating to be handed the answer sheet directly by the administrator.

Suddenly, I grew curious.

What kind of gameplay would have unfolded on the fourth floor if I had continued the game before transmigrating?

I regretted giving up halfway through the third floor once again.

After thoroughly reading the guidebook, I led Dietrich up to the fourth floor.

The administrator had said that when we returned, the structure of the fourth floor would have changed.

At the time, I had casually agreed, but now, looking around, it really was astonishing.

‘Where is the administrator?’

Since the space had changed, I couldn’t tell where the administrator was. But that wasn’t the priority right now.

For now, we needed to focus on clearing the fourth floor while staying on the third floor until its administrator appeared.

So, I dragged Dietrich into the room.

According to the administrator, the fourth floor was similar to the third. There was a trick in the room, and solving it would yield the crushed shards.

The room we entered was arranged like a giant chessboard, with a chess set placed in the center of a desk.

“Dietrich, the hint for this room is…”

I blatantly mentioned the hint, but nothing appeared to penalize me.

Feeling more relaxed, I continued to explain the hint.

“Doesn’t the arrangement of the pieces on the chessboard look exactly like the placement of the furniture in the room? Wow, how fascinating.”

[ The administrator of the fourth floor is dumbfounded, wondering if you’ve basically been given the answer. ]

As the system window popped up, I worried slightly about whether there would be a penalty.

[ The administrator of the fourth floor says you need not be afraid and reassures you. ]

The administrator’s blessing is the best.

If the fourth-floor administrator didn’t have some hidden agenda, this floor might pass smoothly.

“Take a good look, Dietrich.”

This puzzle was too easy.

One piece of furniture was placed differently from the chessboard, and conveniently, a chess piece had fallen right beside the board.

All we had to do was put the piece in the correct spot to solve the puzzle.

“Well… I’m not sure about the answer.”

Huh?

“No, Dietrich. Look carefully. If you look closely, you’ll definitely find it.”

“I’m still not sure. It’s too difficult.”

What? He’s always been quick-witted.

He had solved far more challenging problems with ease before.

“Charlotte, something about this change in space is making me feel uneasy. I’m thinking about staying on the third floor for a while.”

“…What?”

What was he talking about?

“I think I’ll go back down now. I’ve been in this unfamiliar space for too long, and it’s making me anxious.”

His excuse was absolutely absurd.

Dietrich casually glanced around the room before grabbing my hand.

“You’re coming with me, right?”

“Do you think I’m in a position to pick and choose whether I like this or not?”

“I’m feeling anxious, so I hope you’ll understand.”

He didn’t seem inclined to leave the mansion anytime soon.

Why?

His descent into darkness was still only at 80%. Usually, it needed to reach at least 90% for him to lose all desire to leave the mansion…

Why so soon…?

“All right, fine.”

For now, I’d let him rest a bit, and then I’d try persuading him again later.

* * *

Quite some time had passed since Tuvio began searching Lindbergh.

But still, there was no news about Dietrich.

“Sir Tuvio! Sir Elias’s squad is expected to arrive soon.”

Damn it!

He had wanted to claim all the glory by himself, but he’d been coming up empty-handed this whole time.

“At this rate, Elias might find him first…”

Damn it.

Tuvio swore repeatedly under his breath, and his subordinates around him instinctively became mindful of his mood.

They knew very well how volatile he could be.

When he was in a foul mood, he’d beat his subordinates to the brink of death.

“And what’s with this sky? It’s as dark as if it’s about to rain…”

Sure enough.

As soon as he finished speaking, a raindrop splattered on his face.

The few drops quickly turned into a downpour, the rain falling heavily like a raging storm.

“Damn it! This is ridiculous!”

With nothing going his way and now even the rain to deal with, Tuvio’s anger finally erupted.

He had no idea when the rain would stop, and they were stuck in it for now.

Then, Tuvio’s eyes landed on an elegant mansion not far away.

BOOM!

A bolt of lightning flashed, casting a bluish light over the mansion.

“We haven’t searched that place yet, have we?”

“No, not yet…”

The rain provided a perfect excuse to seek shelter.

“Let the others keep searching for Dietrich. I’ll take a few men and head to that mansion.”

Tuvio pointed to a few subordinates and mounted his horse.

“Move out!”

Unaware of what awaited them, the men began their approach toward the grand mansion of Lindbergh.
