Chapter 384

Finally, she spoke.

“If that’s the case, there’s nothing we can do. We must follow the will of the heavens.”

“Pardon?”

Are you serious?

Maya asked again in surprise.

“Even if it’s unfair, what can I, a mere human, do? I can’t stay hidden by your side forever.”

“There’s no reason why not.”

“Would you defy God’s will? Even if the demigod by your side shares your will, he is still one of the creations bound by the mission given by God.”

“…..”

“Never mind angering them. Can it even be possible to go against their will?”

Audrey’s words were honestly irrefutable.

‘So, how exactly am I supposed to get through this situation?’

Maybe she doesn’t need to navigate it at all.

If she leaves the situation to unfold as it will, whatever is meant to happen will happen. The princess will die, and the prince will carve out God’s mark and implant it in himself.

What’s meant to happen will happen.

Even if the world is on the brink of destruction, 1500 years from now—it doesn’t feel real.

To be honest, it feels like someone else’s problem.

She’d love to pass it down to future generations.

But…

“Anyway, the conclusion is this: I can’t just let the princess die, even if it’s unrelated to the fate of the world.”

Audrey couldn’t help but be shocked. Shocked to the point of being horrified. How could someone say such a thing?

As she listened to the whole story, Audrey realized just how powerless she was.

In the end, what’s meant to happen will happen, and as a human, she was nothing more than a mechanical part.

The world is like a massive wave, and humans are merely swept along with its current.

Overwhelmed by the weight of the truth, Audrey lightly spoke.

“As I said, I’m not interested in sharing a lover with you…”

“In this situation, are you making jokes…”

“Hoho, I’m serious. I don’t want to.”

Not just me, but it seems like you and your god feel the same way. As Audrey added, Maya scratched her cheek and replied.

“I wasn’t planning on using that method. But since he chose me, I can’t betray the trust that has been placed in me…”

“Hmm, no other reasons? I’m confident I wouldn’t be disappointed even if you gave me a more personal reason.”

“What? No, what are you talking about?”

Maya blushed, and when she straightened up, the princess let out a short laugh before dropping the playful tone and speaking seriously.

“You won’t gain anything from helping me.”

“I’d actually prefer to think I’m helping with the intention of getting something out of it…”

If only life could be that simple, maybe the world would be easier to navigate. Maya wouldn’t have gotten involved in all of this to begin with.

Maya just laughed bitterly.

After going through the stages of denial and anger, she simply resigned herself to the situation. She wasn’t sure if hearing Noah’s words had given her courage, but this was just who she was. What else could she do?

“Is that so.”

Audrey, staring blankly at Maya and slowly blinking, muttered.

“I can see why you are loved by God.”

Elaina and Ugo were eavesdropping on their conversation.

“Do you still doubt that the Sister is a two-faced witch?”

“No, it’s just…”

It was likely a blatant distortion of history.

Ugo let out a soft groan and swallowed his words. It was a shocking revelation for someone still young enough to take the world at face value.

To think that history books, which were supposed to be records without error, were actually filled with lies and fabrications.

“Calling her an evil witch? Someone like that should be called a hero, shouldn’t they? At least, she should have been recorded as Noah’s companion.”

“Exactly.”

“I just can’t understand it.”

“I think I understand why.”

“Why’s that?”

“It’s easier to point and blame one person. That way, on the surface, the world seems peaceful.”

And Maya would throw her reputation away for the sake of peace, much like the origin of Valentine.

“…I’m not sure I understand.”

“You’ll get it when you’re my age.”

Well, maybe not. Ugo looked down at Elaina, who was slightly shorter than him with a slightly incredulous expression. Pouting, he added grumpily,

“I’m guessing Lady thinks we’re about ten years apart, but I’d appreciate it if you realized it’s a gap that could still be suitable for marriage.”

“Who’s saying what? You tried to propose to me because your father pushed you into it.”

“I wouldn’t exactly say I was pushed…”

Well, back then, it was kind of true. Ugo couldn’t finish his sentence and blushed, fumbling for words.

Elaina nonchalantly said,

“But even with a ten-year age gap, we can still get married, right? Legally speaking.”

At that, Ugo’s body stiffened in shock, before he yelled out.

“Don’t even say something so horrendous!”

That was a surprise.

“Why are you getting so mad?”

“I can’t accept it! Not with such disgusting, p*dophilic pervert!”

Ugo blindly hurled accusations at someone who didn’t even exist.

What’s going on? Was he her brother now?

She had only pointed out that legally it’s possible, not that she had any intention of doing so.

Elaina was bewildered but couldn’t help smiling when she saw Ugo getting all worked up on her behalf.

Her first impression of him had been terrible, and she’d thought they’d never get along, but somehow, as they kept getting tangled in these absurd situations, they’d gotten closer.

“Well, I’d probably be pissed if you were marrying someone ten years older than you.”

“Are you saying…?”

Ugo absentmindedly turned his head and almost locked eyes with Elaina, so he hastily looked down instead.

Maybe she liked that look.

Even though she could read his thoughts with just a glance, he didn’t show any signs of unease or avoiding him.

‘Although, he probably just doesn’t want to show it.’

She understood.

Who wouldn’t feel uncomfortable if someone could read their thoughts without even trying?

Everyone in the Valentine family cared for and loved Elaina, treating her without any pretense. But that was a separate case.

They had adapted to abilities beyond normal human comprehension. From the physical abilities of the people inside the territory to those outside, there was a noticeable difference.

But ordinary people from outside would be different.

It wasn’t strange at all for someone to become isolated if they had that kind of power.

Yet Ugo stayed by her side.
