Chapter 371

“Noah. You said you belong to me, but can I transfer that to someone else?”

“Transfer? You mean me?”

“No, I know it sounds weird, but I can’t think of any other way to put it…”

“You want to give me away to someone else?”

“Please don’t be upset…”

Maya awkwardly avoided his gaze, as though he had just heard some bizarre statement.

She quickly realized why Noah was reacting that way.

After all, he had lived through the zealots begging him to stay as their god, doing everything they could to cling to him. She had made a god out of someone who had been willing to answer her prayers, so he never thought she would refuse.

“I don’t really need… No, sorry. I know that sounds rude.”

Maya said, nervously licking her lips.

“I don’t believe in gods in the first place, and I have no intention of serving one. Do I even deserve such a role? Surely there’s someone more suitable to serve you, someone who genuinely wants to worship you, waiting for their chance.”

“…”

By saying this, Maya was making it clear she didn’t want Noah.

Noah remained silent for a moment with an unreadable expression before he spoke in a straightforward manner.

“There is someone.”

“Perfect! I can transfer it then!”

“…”

Noah stared at Maya, who, for the first time, smiled brightly, as if a weight had been lifted off her shoulders.

Elaina glanced between the two of them and whispered softly,

“It’s like giving away your pet dog to someone else.”

She noticed a subtle disappointment in Noah, who was usually expressionless and unreadable like a statue.

Then Ugo, who had been silently observing, muttered quietly,

“…Isn’t that blasphemy?”

But Elaina quickly shushed him, whispering, and turned her attention back to the conversation.

“You looked into my eyes and realized I had the right to serve God. Surely, you must know how to identify others who have been chosen by God, right? Is it just a matter of choosing one of them?”

“…”

“Well, until we find someone, I’ll accompany you. I think this is enough to fulfill my responsibility.”

“…”

“You’ve suddenly gone quiet.”

“You’ve suddenly started talking a lot.”

“Well, of course…”

Wait a minute. Maya stopped mid-sentence, a cold feeling creeping over her as she looked up at Noah’s expression.

His face gave no indication of approval or disapproval. But something about his reaction felt like he wasn’t happy with this situation.

If the first priestess who awakened him as a god suddenly wanted to break the contract, it would make sense for him to be upset.

‘Am I the bad one here? Have I become the bad person?’

But I’m the victim too!

Even if it’s a case of mutual misunderstanding, she is still the one who will take responsibility and find someone else for him—what more does he want? Surely he doesn’t want compensation for the damage done?

“You must prefer a saint-like priest, someone more suited to serving God than someone like me.”

“I don’t see why that would be better.”

“It’s because you’ve been stuck in a crazy zealot village temple. Once you see the world for yourself, you’ll change your mind.”

At that, Noah visibly showed his displeasure.

Elaina watched him, tilting her head in confusion.

‘Hmm? It’s not mutual, but it seems like Noah has some lingering feelings…’

However, it was hard to say for sure if it was romantic feelings.

Noah was impossible to read, and as a demi-god, the usual human logic didn’t apply to him.

It could be that he simply disliked being rejected for the first time.

‘And if Maya gives up being the priestess, the future will unfold as it’s written in the history books. It will align.’

Without being the priestess anymore, Maya would be labeled a witch.

There could be several reasons for this. She was often referred to as a witch, and perhaps, given that she awakened Noah as an evil god, she was condemned as one.

Moreover, given that there’s no record of Noah being called an ‘evil god’ in the history books, it’s possible that he would cease being one if he completely cut ties with Maya…

Elaina exchanged glances with Ugo.

He seemed to think the same thing.

“As expected, it’s not right. It seems like the princess is the more likely candidate.”

“Indeed…”

She could only agree with him.

Maya had confirmed that the children were safe, and now, she just wanted to go home.

If she could just lock herself away in her old, shabby, but safe space, she could face anything.

‘I don’t want to get caught up in something that feels like it came out of an adventure novel!’

But why was it turning out like this?

The more she tried to avoid it, the more this was turning into a real adventure.

‘Well, who am I going to blame?’

Maya sighed and began packing her things.

She had no idea how long the journey would be, so it was best to be fully prepared.

“Sister.”

At that moment, Elaina approached and whispered softly.

“Why do you not like Noah?”

She went straight to the point, as usual. It was typical of kids to speak so directly, after all.

‘Well, who would want to carry around a volatile, unpredictable bomb with no common sense or morality for the rest of their life?’

Maya thought.

But because it was an innocent question from someone who resembled Noah so much, Maya couldn’t give such a cynical response.

She hesitated, looking around, then added in an almost apologetic tone,

“I never said I don’t like him…”

“So you like him?”

“Do I have to pick one?”

That was too extreme. When Maya asked back with a troubled look, Elaina shrugged and responded,

“If you don’t like either, it means you have no feelings or interest at all. My dad says that there’s more possibilities when you don’t like someone than to have no feelings either way.”

“What do you mean by ‘possibility’?”

“Well, true love…”
