Chapter 368

Maya never considered herself someone who could be a role model for others.

Naturally.

The actions that appeared to be righteous to others weren’t done because of any grand or noble purpose. It was simply because if she ignored someone in need, the image would stick with her, making her constantly think about it.

‘Maybe it’s because I was born timid.’

It would be nice if she could forget easily.

It would be nice if it didn’t bother her.

“Please, help me.”

If she didn’t help now, what would happen to this person?

Would they live like this forever? Could they even die?

No, someone far more capable, clear-headed, and generous than her would probably help.

What was she doing, worrying about someone else when she couldn’t even take care of herself?

But if that person, the one who she had tried to help, ended up found dead the next day…

That thought would bury itself in her heart like a spike, haunting her every night with terrible nightmares.

‘Is everyone else unaffected?’

Maybe it was just her.

If that’s the case, then the thirsty one must dig the well.

Maya, not wanting to spend another sleepless night, decided to act.

She had always struggled on her own, rejected by everyone, helping others but never receiving thanks, let alone any form of repayment.

But that didn’t matter to her.

‘This old man has been treating me like a perfect fool all this time.’

Maya wasn’t surprised.

There was nothing to be hurt by anymore.

Anyone who approached someone called a witch without hesitation couldn’t be normal.

They were either naive, had malicious intentions, or were out of their mind. What else could it be?

She was just tired.

‘Do I have to live like this until I die?’

In fact, wasn’t she already trapped in this abyss from the moment she was born?

No matter how hard she struggled, no matter how much she fought, her fate was to sink.

‘XXXX.’

Maya, lying face down, didn’t even attempt to get up.

She just wanted to be left alone.

By people, by the world.

“Is that your wish?”

Wish?

“Do you want me to erase both humans and the world?”

She didn’t remember wishing for something so violent.

Even in her dazed state, Maya frowned slightly and shook her head.

“Well.”

She didn’t expect any kind of repayment.

After all, her actions weren’t born out of goodwill.

It might even be selfishness—she just wanted to feel at ease.

“Usually, that’s called goodwill.”

No, it’s not.

That’s in no way a sense of justice or righteousness.

“Generally, evil people are the ones who boast about such things. Good people don’t know they’re good.”

What is he saying?

Anyway, she just didn’t want to be bothered anymore.

A simple ‘thank you,’ even if it was a mere formality, would have been enough!

Even if she had been used and deceived, having that hidden agenda so openly revealed made it all too hard for her.

It felt like her heart was breaking.

“Hmm, so you want me to remove the ungrateful person from your sight?”

That seemed a bit extreme, though. Well, that’s similar.

Yes, maybe… She doesn’t want to see these kinds of things anymore.

She doesn’t want to meet people who, once she shares something, only tries to take more, demanding even more from her.

Just talking to them hurts.

“Then pray.”

Pray? How does she do that?

“You are the one through whom this god came into existence. The method is for you to decide.”

A god like that exist? She has never heard of such a thing.

“Noah. The evil god you will serve, the one that belongs to you.”

Noah.

The moment she heard the name of that being, Maya instantly understood everything about him.

Who he was, why he descended to this land, and why he was trapped in this small temple for the rest of his life.

Strangely, she felt as though she had always known Noah, like he had naturally existed within her from the beginning. Like the air in her lungs, like the blood in her veins.

And yet, at the same time, he resonated in her chest, making his presence felt heavily.

My god.

God, please.

Please watch over those in need of your help on this land.

Help them rest peacefully without reaching out. So that I don’t get hurt.

“Such prayers again.”

The response was unsurprising.

When Maya’s consciousness began to sink back into the depths, the god answered her prayer.

“I am an evil god, so listen to this selectively.”

Maya suddenly opened her eyelids at the overwhelming heat coursing through her body.

Not far away, the great forest was engulfed in flames, burning like hellfire.

“So hot…”

She murmured unconsciously.

A large hand suddenly approached and lightly swept across her face.

The hand was smooth, without moisture, but it felt as though it was imbued with a strong metallic scent.

‘It’s not hot anymore.’

As if by magic, a gentle breeze now enveloped her body.

Maya slowly blinked and, in a dazed voice, murmured,

“It looks like there’s a fire… in the village…”

Isn’t that the zealot’s village?

Surrounded by forests, it was no wonder the fire kept burning, unrelenting.

The village chief should be worried about the forest fires, not the wild animals.

“The children?”

“Didn’t you save them?”

“Right, but what about the other victims? The animals in the forest?”

“They ran away.”

“No injuries?”

“That’s the first question you’re asking?”

They’re not even curious if you’re hurt. The large hand raised her hand, then let go.

Her hand, once covered in horrible burn scars and pus, was now smooth, as if new skin had formed.

But in her dazed state, Maya didn’t notice the change.

“I am curious why the fire started.”

“Consider it divine punishment.”

“Divine punishment…”

“You prayed for it.”

“I don’t remember praying for divine punishment…”

“I made sure you wouldn’t be hurt.”

“…”

“Now, those ungrateful people won’t use you anymore, won’t speak to you, or even meet you.”
