Chapter 359

The way he carefully applied the ointment without making much contact with her was both admirable and frustrating. Was it foolish or simply stubbornness?

“I don’t know if this will help with the burn, but it’s better than leaving it as it is.”

“Do you carry this with you all the time? You’re really thoughtful.”

“…Is that a complaint?”

“No, it’s a compliment.”

“Kuhm.”

When Elaina gave a straightforward compliment, Ugo turned his head, clearing his throat and changing the subject.

“Anyway, we just wait here, right?”

He hesitated a moment, then placed his hand on the door, just as Elaina had done earlier. But, unsurprisingly, nothing happened.

Looking at his perfectly fine hand, Ugo sighed.

“I had a feeling they were up to something, using Lady’s abilities to trap us, but it’s still surprising. This is a divine item that only works on someone with divine power.”

“Yes, the fanatics believe that this method worked, that they were able to trap Noah in the temple this way.”

Noah could leave the temple and destroy these fanatics and humanity in an instant if he wanted to.

Elaina sneered and moved forward with deliberate steps.

The demi-god Noah was still there, unmoving, his eyes closed, undisturbed by anyone’s presence in the temple.

“Of course, our ancestor is like that, but we’re clearly stuck here.”

“…I just hope everything goes as planned.”

What were their plans?

Ugo had said before that, before everything else, they needed to think about why they had come to this time. Some force had guided Elaina toward the past through her dreams, so there must have been a clear purpose behind it. There was something only she could do.

‘The reason I’m here.’

She already fully understood what needed to be done, even before Ugo had reminded her.

Elaina had to help her ancestor leave the temple, to make sure he didn’t turn into an evil god and was able to return to the human world safely.

Then, she would need to guide him to rescue the princess trapped in the labyrinth in the myth and help him marry her, ensuring the safe establishment of the ‘Valentine Family.’

To do that…

‘I need to find Witch Maya.’

Witch Maya, the ultimate villain in the myth who trapped the princess in the labyrinth.

She was said to have the strongest power, even able to control dragons, and had gained a reputation for her many evil deeds throughout history.

‘I’ll temporarily ask for her cooperation.’

She needed to set things in motion for Maya to cause chaos in the fanatic village.

‘She controlled dragons, so she’ll likely agree to our proposal.’

She would meet a dragon.

Although she had no prior contact with any dragon from this era, dragons were the protectors of God, and Elaina, being the vessel for God’s feeling, could probably find Luca through them too.

Of course, finding Luca was her primary goal in all of this.

Ugo, who had been deep in thought for a moment, sighed and put a hand to his forehead.

“To entrust such a task to a beast that can’t even communicate properly…”

“Hey, you’re the one who suggested this plan.”

“But it’s written in the myth!”.

The first recorded mention of Witch Maya in the history books was of her riding a wolf in the Malcalrn region, terrorizing the villagers.

That’s right. This was the Malcalrn region.

Although they were in a small, isolated rural village, it was still part of that territory. There was a reason that Elaina, among all the other figures in the myth, contacted Maya. It was simply because she was the only one in the area who could offer help.

“Anyway, we’ve sent the wolf, so it should work out.”

“Do you think the wolf will really find the person?”

“It listens better than you do.”

“….”

“Want to sit?”

Elaina asked casually, tapping the seat next to her, leaning comfortably against Noah’s leg.

Ugo, startled by how much Noah resembled Duke Valentine, quickly shook his head and stepped back, putting some distance between them.

A wolf?

The people in the middle of the city were stunned when they heard about a wolf appearing out of nowhere. A wolf wasn’t just attacking a herd of sheep in the open. Why would it suddenly invade a densely populated area?

Wolves were intelligent predators, not ones to attack unless there was a reason. They didn’t appear to be starving or in a frenzy, so why would it target the human population?

The man who first cried out about it, Bill, who ran the most popular tavern in the area. He was too serious for it to be a joke.

“No, I’m serious!”

“You’ve got to be kidding.”

“Mister, this isn’t funny.”

“I’m not joking!”

Despite his protests, the crowd remained unimpressed, as he was known for his cold, dry humor that often lowered the temperature of the room by at least 10 degrees.

But then, from beyond the hill where the sun was setting, a massive silhouette appeared.

It was the time between day and night, the ‘dog and wolf’ hours, when what lay beyond the horizon was hard to see. The people assumed it was just a stray dog.

But soon, their expressions began to change.

“It’s, it’s really a wolf!”

“Call the hunters!”

Vendors running street stalls panicked, abandoning their tents as they rushed to pound on the mercenary guild doors.

The mercenaries, who had been lounging, looked out with furrowed brows. They grabbed their weapons and stepped outside.

“It’s real.”

“Just one? Not a pack?”

If it had been a group of wild animals, people might have thought there had been a forest fire. But the fact that just one wolf had appeared out of nowhere was absurd.

Had it been enchanted by a spirit?

“It could call its pack at any time.”

A wolf could howl to summon its pack from tens of kilometers away.
