Chapter 346

Although the expression was difficult for a child to grasp instantly, Elaina replied, ‘Ah,’ with a puzzled look.

After all, if she could sense someone’s thoughts just by making eye contact, it was impossible for her not to understand.

The humans she knew generally thought and spoke differently.

And ‘desires’ were usually things kept hidden deep within, not uttered aloud.

“Well, you could just tell them not to.”

“I can’t go outside this temple.”

Elaina widened her eyes in surprise and turned around.

She hadn’t anticipated that at all.

It was so ridiculous and absurd that she couldn’t help but ask.

“But you’re the son of God.”

How could the son of God not be able to leave the temple? Who had trapped him here? What right did they have? How? Why?

As Elaina stood up and stared at him intently, Noah met her gaze with a dark expression that seemed almost more shocked than her own.

His eyes were as lifeless as a dead fish’s.

“The son of God.”

“…So if you’re the son of God, why are you trapped in the temple?”

He was the son of an all-powerful God!

“My existence does not belong to the human world. Therefore, this is the only place permitted for me.”

“Eh?”

But, but…

He should be incredibly tied to the human world, won’t he? He not only belongs to it, but he even had descendants! And that’s her!

Elaina’s head was getting more and more complicated, but she decided to ask about the thing she was curious about first.

“So, can’t you just go to where you belong?”

It was a natural question.

If he doesn’t belong to the human world, then why was he foolishly remaining in this temple without moving?

Couldn’t he return to God’s realm? Or should she call it paradise or the heavenly kingdom?

Then Noah gazed at her with eyes like a bottomless abyss and replied,

“There is no world permitted for the halfling.”

“…What does that mean?”

So, he couldn’t belong to either the human world or God’s world?

“Are you saying this small temple is the only space allowed for you for the rest of your life?”

“Because I was born that way.”

Noah answered as if explaining an obvious concept.

It felt as if he was saying it was natural for a fish born with gills to live in water.

Unbelievable…

Elaina couldn’t find the words.

“Doesn’t that frustrate you?”

She asked reflexively, fully aware it was a foolish question.

Of course, it would be frustrating.

Valentine Castle was her home.

The Grand Duchy was practically her backyard, and the Kingdom of Garcia was like her next-door neighbor; anywhere on the continent felt like a light stroll.

Yet how could a person live their entire life in this tiny prayer room?

No matter how much of a demigod he was, he wasn’t a fish in a fishbowl!

“So you can’t belong to either world? Forever?”

“….”

“There must be some way, right?”

Elaina, growing impatient, nearly begged Noah for answers.

At that moment, she felt a gaze as if he was looking at a strange creature.

“Why are you so upset?”

“Well, it’s because I…!”

Because I’m your descendant! Elaina instinctively almost revealed the truth but shut her mouth instead.

Suddenly, it felt like her throat had closed up, and she couldn’t say anything.

‘What’s going on?’

She hurriedly touched her throat, her expression flustered.

‘Why can’t I speak?’

How could this be? She can’t say anything about the fact that he was her ancestor and she was his descendant?

She attempted to speak several times, but whenever it was about the future, she found herself unable to utter a word in front of Noah.

“What do you…”

“I’m just frustrated!”

Disappointed, Elaina slumped her shoulders and murmured her response.

She knew that one day he would belong to the human world.

Yet just look at that lifeless face. It was without any human vigor or vitality, like a colorless corpse.

If she didn’t speak, he would just freeze up like a statue and fall asleep again.

‘It looks like he has no intention of leaving this place at all!’

To think her ancestor was bound to the temple for life.

What would happen to all the achievements he had built up?

What about the Valentine family?

No, more importantly, what about marriage? He had to marry to have children, and children were essential for the continuation of the family line…

‘That’s how I was born, right?’

So this instinct to survive came before her desire to help her ancestor.

Noah needed to step outside the temple and belong to the human world right now.

It was then that Elaina was deep in thought.

“Is that so?”

Noah briefly glanced at the modest pile of fruit on his lap, murmuring to himself.

He looked as if he had just come to a realization, like someone who had been swept away by a rushing current and finally managed to break free.

“This is human hypocrisy.”

Hypocrisy?

“Are you trying to shove this in my face and then act like you don’t know?”

At his words, Elaina’s gaze naturally shifted to his knees.

A slight curve appeared at the corners of his red lips.

“I see you pretending to care while knowing nothing. You’re quite the clever little one.”

“Excuse me?”

“Did the villagers send you?”

“Excuse me?”

“Oh, I suppose they wouldn’t make you bring me fruit. So this is all your own idea.”

“No, wait a minute.”

“Is there something you want? I will listen.”

His tone felt less like genuine curiosity and more like mockery of a foolish, insignificant creature.

Elaina’s expression turned frustrated.

The smart girl knew that the dictionary definition of ‘hypocrisy’ was to ‘pretend to be good on the outside.’

Noah thought she was approaching him with an air of pretense, pretending to be ignorant.

It was shocking. When did she ever act good? She just can’t say that he was her ancestor!

This was no ‘The King’s ears are donkey ears’ situation…

‘Luca, this is my fate now.’
