Becoming the Villain’s Family - Chapter 306
Chapter 306
Show restraint.
That was never necessary to begin with. Even though their souls had swapped, why would she need to show restraint to hug her own husband?
Aria sighed.
She knew that what she was about to say wouldn’t really help the situation, but she couldn’t let him continue to misunderstand.
“You are my one and only savior, and there is no one else like you. I should be the one embracing you without any hesitation, so why would I need to show restraint…”
He seemed surprised to her frankness.
“Weren’t you just wanting to get rid of me? To take your husband’s place.”
To put it bluntly, she had indeed had similar thoughts as the Grand Duke suggested.
“It’s not that you being here or taking Lloyd’s place bothers me. Actually, it’s more my issue.”
“Your issue?”
“Firstly, Lloyd’s safety isn’t assured, and I’m worried about whether he’s alright…”
As Aria trailed off, he asked.
“And the second reason?”
The second reason was that she found it troubling how the Grand Duke and Lloyd seemed to overlap in her mind. What other reason could there be to push him away?
‘I need to find a way to get Lloyd’s soul back. He needs to return.’
She feared becoming too attached to the Grand Duke, fearing that she might start hoping he wouldn’t return to his original world, that he too could enjoy peace and happiness.
Aria couldn’t bring herself to voice these thoughts and looked away.
‘If it were his entire body that had come over, I wouldn’t be telling him to go back.’
But now that he was in Lloyd’s body, what choice was there but to tell him to return?
‘The theory of the Grand Duke’s body crossing over to this world is even more impossible than souls swapping.’
Because the GGrand Duke’s body harbors God’s malice.
That would pose a deadly risk to the balance of the world.
‘There can’t be two Lloyds in this world.’
Caught in these complex thoughts, it was then that Grand Duke Valentine suddenly pulled her close.
Aria found herself helplessly pulled into his arms.
“Ah.”
“I kept holding you like this.”
“Me?”
“The empty shell with your soul gone.”
The Grand Duke spoke while holding her in his arms. Although elegantly put, it essentially meant he had been cradling her lifeless body.
“No matter how much warmth I shared, it just kept cooling down.”
Aria had planned to soothe him to sleep with a lullaby while nestled in his arms. However, his words somehow made that impossible now.
“Siren.”
“…”
“Aria…”
He called by her name, Aria, in the exact tone and voice of Lloyd, it felt as though it really was Lloyd calling her. She bit her lip as tears threatened to spill.
“Please, call me Ariadne.”
It was her full name, seldom used by anyone else due to the familiarity of her nickname.
“Ariadne, you feel warm.”
His arm was strong and firm.
The familiar heartbeat, the familiar warmth, the familiar scent…
No, it was just… Lloyd.
Aria was in Lloyd’s arms.
Until dawn broke.
After the troubling day, a new one dawned. The brains of Valentine gathered, though it seemed they had no concrete solutions.
“A different dimension, is waking up God the only way?”
Vincent muttered, and Winter shook his head in disagreement.
“Of course not.”
“Parallel worlds? I can hardly believe it. I understand that he changed in an instant, but I only acknowledge the multiverse, nothing else.”
Vincent began to explain how absurd the concept of parallel worlds was, more suited to pure fantasy than reality. Half-listening, Aria chimed in.
“Could it be because of my regression, that the world before and after my regression split into two?”
“Can you prove that?”
“No…”
Feeling foolish for perhaps the first time in a long while, Aria blinked blankly.
Vincent stopped himself from explaining how nonsensical her comment was and, gauging Aria’s mood, added comfortingly.
“However, now we are in an exceptional situation where humans harbor God’s feelings within them. It’s possible that any anomaly can arise from this.”
“So, in the end, you admit we know nothing?”
“Yes. That’s why we need to awaken God.”
“That’s not an option.”
Luca interjected suddenly.
“God declared that Ella will receive all the feelings and govern this land on the day she becomes an adult. If God decreed it so, there must be a reason.”
That made sense upon reflection. If it was God, God would have foreseen the future.
So, does that mean this situation itself have been predicted
“So you mean to say that waking God now might lead to even greater troubles?”
Winter rubbed his temples that were in pain. The others shared the same reaction.
“Have you received any visions?”
Vincent sighed deeply and turned to Luca.
“None.”
“Then God’s guardian is useless.”
“The so-called genius of the century is rather incompetent.”
They exchanged sharp glances at each other.
Aria stepped in again.
“So, we have no choice but to monitor the situation without any special measures.”
“That’s right.”
They had no choice but to come to that conclusion.
Just then, Vincent made a strange face as if he had bitten into something unpleasant and added.
“But I was rather surprised by Ella’s reaction.”
“Ella?”
“You know how perceptive Ella is. If I’m even slightly down, she picks up on it right away.”
To hold Ella, he had always had to meditate to calm his mind and conjure happy thoughts.
