Beast in the Woods, Deep in the Night - Chapter 25.1
Chapter 25.1
‘He has a lot of clothes. They’re also well-organized.’
The room where Edgar’s clothes were stored was surprisingly grand. Inside, there was a line of clothes that had been carefully ironed by someone.
But what surprised Christine was not the amount of clothes or the neat arrangement, but the state of the fabric and sewing.
‘They’re all the best. He must have called someone to make them tailored for his body.’
She had studied many things so that she could get information about people just by looking at their appearance, so she could tell.
Even though it was Edgar’s clothes, and all the items looked rough, they were of high quality. Leather gloves, belts, and simple jeweled accessories looked like they were handmade by artisans, making it difficult to estimate their prices.
‘I think Duff only has a few clothes made from this kind of fabric.’
Although he had fallen and had no power, Duff was the man who inherited the title of Baron Goldman and the fortune of his predecessor.
Even so, he had only a few clothes of such material. He mostly wore them when he went to important events where he had to be careful not to be embarrassed.
But Edgar’s closet was full of such luxury, as if to say that he had never considered any other option besides this. Besides, he seemed unfazed by whether someone else took his clothes or borrowed them.
At this point, Christine reached a reasonable conclusion.
‘Is Edgar a nobleman?’
Considering that his behavior and demeanor were very sophisticated except when he was having s*x, it was not unreasonable to assume that he was a person of high status.
However, his body had the characteristics of a chimera. Judging by the way he calmed her curse whenever she touched him, he was no ordinary human being.
If he was someone who had the characteristics of a chimera while at the same time having such a status that he could use those items comfortably…
‘It would be nice if I had a chance to check it out for sure.’
She also noticed that Edgar did not want to reveal his identity or status.
Unlike those who subtly revealed what a great person they were in the hope that others would know, he seemed to have no desire to reveal who he really was.
Finding out who he was wouldn’t make much difference, but it would be good to know why he was hiding his identity.
Christine put on one of his shirts. Edgar’s body was so big that the white shirt was almost like a dress to her. After that, she chose an okay-looking cloak and hung it over her shoulders. She couldn’t stay at Edgar’s residence forever, so she thought it would be better to leave now.
She grabbed her tattered nightdress and escaped from his residence. She was going to go back to the building she was using and figure out how to find out about his identity.
But her chance to find that out came from an unexpected source.

Christine avoided the chimeras’ eyes and moved to her dwelling.
The chimeras here had been rescued by Edgar, so they respected and followed him. She didn’t want to needlessly be caught spending time with him, and she didn’t want to attract too much attention.
She took off his clothes and hung them in the closet, slightly sniffing them. They had his unique body scent.
“…”
She quickly hung them in the closet. His scent mixed with hers.
A small box was placed in the corner of the closet. It was a box containing the chimera’s tears she had been slowly collecting for days.
‘I’ll have no choice but to collect the chimera’s tears that have fallen on the floor until Edgar returns. And gather some information if possible.’
There were more jewels than she expected, so the box only had half a handful of what she collected so far.
Uncle Allen had only earned her one month. Christine had no time to waste waiting for Edgar to return.
She put on suitable women’s clothes and left the house after confirming once again that there were no visible traces of what they had done on her exposed skin.
The last time she peeked at it, it seemed like the commanding office of the training hall where the young chimeras trained was a mess, so she thought it would be nice to gather some jewels while brooming the place.
‘It would be nice if Toma and the other young chimeras were here today, too.’
Christine headed to the training hall, secretly hoping to have a chance to greet the chimeras she had become acquainted with. However, the atmosphere in the hall was cold, unlike usual.
There was tight tension as if there had been a fight. Christine grasped the situation from a distance.
“Are you ignoring me right now?”
A man who looked like he was in his mid-thirties was questioning a young female chimera. The frightened girl couldn’t even open her mouth and just shook her head slightly.
The man frowned even more.
“Did they teach you to answer an executive like that?”
“Th-that…”
“What?”
Judging from his appearance, it seemed that the man pressuring the girl was not a chimera. If so, it meant that he was an executive working in the main building of the guild’s hideout.
‘Why did he come all the way here to do that to the children?’
Toma opened his mouth on behalf of the trembling girl.
“I apologize. But the reason Sonia couldn’t greet Mr. Ein and just stood there blankly was because of some bad things she went through in the past…”
However, the man cut him off.
“Will she ruin future commissions for personal reasons? Do you think this is an orphanage?”
