Battle Divorce! - Chapter 35
Chapter 18.1
Just looking at him was incredibly dangerous.
Daisy adjusted her grip on the revolver and stammered, “Y-you said we wouldn’t have s*x.”
“We won’t. I promised, didn’t I?”
“Then why are you naked?”
“Oh, this?”
When Daisy questioned him further, Maxim gave her an awkward smile.
“I usually sleep without clothes. It’s a habit, you could say.”
“You sleep naked?”
“Yes. Clothes feel too restrictive.”
So you’re telling me, he’s completely naked right now? Not even underwear?
The blood drained from Daisy’s face.
“But you’re not sleeping alone anymore. Shouldn’t you… put something on?”
“Why? We aren’t having s*x, so shouldn’t that be enough?”
“It makes me uncomfortable sleeping next to you like this.”
“I see. But unfortunately, there’s nothing I can do. I came straight here, so I didn’t bring any clothes.”
Fair enough. He’d come straight to her room after returning from their outing, so of course, he had nothing to wear. This was her private room, after all. She understood that, but the thought of him lying naked beside her was just simply too much.
“Honestly, I didn’t think I’d need to bother putting anything on.”
“.…”
That’s just your wishful thinking. She didn’t even want to dignify him with a response.
“What’s wrong? You’re not tired?”
Perhaps he knew of her inner turmoil, or maybe he didn’t, but Maxim was now urging her to get into bed.
“I’m exhausted. But I can’t sleep with you there.”
“….”
“Do I have to go over there and carry you to bed?”
“W-wait…! I’m coming!”
The moment he began to rise, Daisy darted forward to stop him. There was absolutely no way she was going to let him move around completely naked.
Seeing her panicked expression, Maxim grinned, thoroughly amused.
You son of a b*tch. You did that on purpose.
Daisy frowned, her irritation bubbling up.
She stopped at the foot of the bed, hesitating.
Just lying down felt like walking straight into a trap.
And besides…
Up close, Maxim’s torso was a work of art. The long curve of his neck, defined collarbones, those broad, powerful shoulders, and his chiseled chest. It was like standing in front of a sculpture in a museum.
“Can’t see much in the dark, can you? Come closer.”
“I-I wasn’t looking.”
“At what?”
“.…”
He was clearly having too much fun teasing her. Knowing she’d only fall further into his trap if she took the bait, Daisy decided to change the subject.
“Um, Max?”
“Yes, Izzy?”
“You said compromise and mutual understanding are important in a marriage, right?”
“I did.”
“Then I’d like to request a compromise. I’ll get into bed, but please put on a robe at least.”
Her firm tone made Maxim’s eyes widen slightly.
“Well, if you’re truly that uncomfortable, Izzy.”
Maxim tossed back the blankets and sat up. Shocked, Daisy spun, giving her back to him. That crazy bastard, can’t even give me a warning!
Rustle, rustle.
The sound of fabric shifting filled the quiet room.
“All done.”
Honestly, she didn’t trust him, so Daisy turned back around cautiously, squinting her eyes. Through her blurry vision, she saw Maxim sitting on the bed in his bathrobe.
But… was she just imagining it?
Something still felt off.
“Are you wearing underwear?”
“Let’s not push it. It’s uncomfortable.”
“…Max.”
“I wasn’t wearing any earlier. Why make a fuss now?”
“.…”
Seriously, even if they were married, did this man have no sense of decency?
“I put on the robe, so now it’s your turn to compromise, Izzy.”
The audacity of this bastard. Daisy’s eyes narrowed.
“Fine. But make sure it’s tied properly so nothing shows. And stay on your side of the bed. Don’t you dare cross over to mine.”
“I can’t promise anything, but sure.”
“…”
“Kidding. I’ll stick to my word. Now get some sleep.”
“If you don’t keep your promise, can I shoot you?”
“Be my guest.”
Well, he said he’d stick to his word, so it should be fine.
Reluctantly, Daisy climbed into bed and slipped under the covers, only to remember she’d forgotten to pray. No matter how tired she was, skipping it wasn’t an option. Sister Sophia had made her promise to never neglect her morning and evening prayers.
Especially in moments of trials and tribulations like these, she needed to hold on to her faith.
Sitting up against the headboard just as Maxim was, Daisy reached for the rosary on the nightstand, clasped her hands together, and began to pray.
‘Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for granting me another precious day.’
As always, she began with a note of gratitude. She never forgot to repent for her past killings, and she prayed for the souls of the departed.
