Battle Divorce! - Chapter 28
Chapter 14.2
Earlier, she’d been too shocked to do anything but react on pure instinct, but it turned out Maxim von Waldeck was weak to Daisy’s tears.
She figured if she bawled her eyes out, he’d at least feel guilty and ease up on his madness a little.
That was her assumption as she let the tears fall. But, as it turned out, she couldn’t have been more wrong.
“Hmm… let’s see, what else? Ah, I tend to get aroused when I see someone crying.”
Unbelievable. He was the literal worst.
He’d said something shocking yet again, and his absurdities didn’t stop there.
“What a coincidence. You look especially beautiful when you cry, my Izzy.”
He had said something similar before. Why hadn’t she realized it back then?
Or maybe it made sense that she hadn’t noticed. After all, who would expect someone to get turned on by another person’s tears?
“But no need to worry. You saw earlier, didn’t you, Izzy? I always keep my word. Tonight, I’m only going to sleep.”
“…”
She didn’t even have the energy to respond.
“Cross my heart.”
Judging by his serious expression, he seemed genuinely committed to keeping that promise.
In a situation where he could have easily overpowered her, Maxim kept his word and didn’t go beyond kissing. Besides, he’d already admitted that resistance only excited him more, so fighting back felt pointless.
Her strength was gone. Squeezed out until nothing remained.
A wave of helplessness and exhaustion washed over her, and Daisy lay limp, sinking into the bedding.
“It’s about time you cleaned up, Izzy. You don’t want to catch a cold after being outside. It’s best to wash up.”
Chu, with a light kiss on the tip of her button nose, Maxim got on his feet.
So casual. It was the kind of thing the nuns used to say to the children before bedtime.
His gentle words didn’t match his dangerous appearance at all.
“Would you like to go first, or after me?”
Which would be the lesser of two evils?
Refusing probably wasn’t something Maxim von Waldeck would allow.
Her spirit was completely drained. She had no energy left to fight.
She needed to pick the lesser evil.
As she stared blankly at the ceiling, weighing her options, Maxim suggested something worse.
“You look too tired to wash up by yourself. Do you want my help, darling?”
“No.” Daisy weakly shook her head.
Of all the possibilities, that was the worst one. But after her explosive outburst from earlier, she didn’t have the strength to argue.
“Don’t worry about me. Just… go ahead and shower first, Max.”
“You’re not feeling unwell, are you?”
One minute, he was gripping her wrist like he’d break it, and the next, he was playing the concerned husband. He caused the problem and then acted like he was the solution. The man didn’t even deserve a response.
“No, no. Just go…”
“If that’s what you truly want, Izzy. I understand.”
She had expected him to insist on helping her wash up, but to her surprise, Maxim backed off without a fight.
Just as she was about to breathe a sigh of relief, a soft rustling sound caught her attention. She turned her head and froze.
It was Maxim. Undressing.
‘Hah, seriously? Could he not do that in the bathroom? Why out here?’
It was only a brief glance, but the sight of his sculpted torso made her stomach twist.
She already knew he was confident in his body, but the way he stripped without hesitation left her too flustered to even look in his direction.
If she said anything, he’d surely respond with something like, “What’s there to be embarrassed about between husband and wife?” She had already made the mistake of staring at him earlier, and that had led to a painfully awkward conversation.
“You’re going to wear it out.”
“Sorry?
“My face. You’re staring at it.”
Why had she looked at him so openly? Remembering her foolish actions made her want to kick the blankets in frustration.
If it had just been his face, she could have played it off. But accidentally seeing his naked body?
“So, has seeing me undressed changed your mind?”
“Do you feel like having s*x with me now? In the bed, or maybe the bathtub?”
“Anytime, anywhere, as long as you’re willing, Izzy.”
…among other things.
She didn’t even want to imagine how he’d react.
Just picturing it made her swear she could hear Maxim’s filthy words echoing in her ears.
‘Best not to look. What would I gain by hearing more of his nonsense?’
Daisy quickly turned away.
She wasn’t sure how much time had passed. Eventually, the rustling stopped, followed by the sound of his steady footsteps drawing closer.
“I’ll be back after I wash up, so wait for me here.”
His voice sounded distant.
Still, she kept her eyes shut, feeling like even the slightest peek would reveal far more than she wanted to see.
A moment later, she felt his large hand brush gently over her hair.
“If you disappear again, I’ll make sure we bathe together from now on.”
Leaving her with that eerie warning, he disappeared into the bathroom.
