Battle Divorce! - Chapter 24
Chapter 12.2
Even for regular people, a lack of s*xual intimacy could be grounds for divorce.
If she didn’t want to, she simply wouldn’t.
Why had she wasted so much time overthinking something so simple?
“You’re going to wear it out.”
“Sorry?”
“My face. You’re staring at it.”
Whoops. She must’ve been a little too obvious.
Maxim von Waldeck made the remark casually, not even turning to look at her.
“Is there something you’d like to say to me?”
“No, nothing in particular…”
“Well, I suppose I am fairly handsome. Hard not to stare, right?”
Hearing him brag about himself made her want to roll her eyes.
Daisy pressed her lips together and said nothing. Maxim didn’t push the conversation further.
The bedrooms of the grand duke and duchess were on the fourth floor of the mansion’s main building.
But until her husband’s return, Daisy had been treated coldly as “Lady Therese” and given a guest room on the third floor.
“Heading to bed?” Maxim asked as they climbed the staircase.
“Yes, it’s late, so I should get some sleep.”
“I see.”
She had no idea why he was asking something so obvious. When they reached the third floor, Daisy bid him goodnight.
“Well then, goodnight.”
“You too, Izzy,” he replied with a faint smile.
She bowed her head, and Daisy began the trek to her room at the end of the corridor.
Ugh, I’m exhausted. It’s been such a long day. Now that the tension had worn off, her knees felt weak.
But just as she reached the door to her room, she sensed someone behind her. She looked over her shoulder.
“Why are you following me?”
Daisy whirled around, and Maxim raised a brow.
“Well… you came this way, didn’t you?” he said as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
…What?
Daisy blinked, tilting her head in confusion as she struggled to make sense of his words.
They were speaking the same language… yet somehow, they weren’t on the same page at all.
“What does me coming this way have to do with you following me, Your Highness?”
“Your Highness? You should call me Max.”
“Anyway—”
“Max.”
He was really pushing this.
“I’m sorry, but if you don’t call me Max, I won’t respond.”
Daisy sighed. “Fine. Max.”
What was it about that nickname that he insisted she use it?
Daisy let out a huff, standing her ground and meeting his gaze.
“Would you mind explaining why this matters so much?”
“Why wouldn’t it? It’s only natural for a married couple to share a bedroom, isn’t it?”
“…”
“…?”
A tense silence fell between them.
Simply put, they had two completely different ideas of what was “natural.”
To Daisy, the concept of sharing a bed was absurd. To Maxim, it was expected.
Are we ever going to see eye to eye?
“…You’re saying you want to sleep here? With me?”
“Yes.”
“Just the two of us? Alone?”
“Yes.”
“…”
“Why are you so shocked? Is there a problem?”
His confidence left her speechless.
‘Why would he want to sleep here instead of his own room?’
And not just any room—his master suite was the grandest in the mansion. Compared to that, Daisy’s was small and plain.
Yes, they were married on paper, and sure, sharing a room might be considered normal…
But she wasn’t ready to share a bed with this madman just yet.
“Uh… what about the room on the fourth floor? I thought that’s where the Lord of Waldeck was supposed to stay… That is your room, isn’t it, Max?”
“It is.”
“I snuck a peek before. It’s much bigger, more comfortable, and simply nicer than this one. The bed is ginormous, too. My room here is quite small. Kind of cramped, even for one person.”
“It is small. I noticed that too.”
Maxim just kept smiling, clearly entertained by Daisy’s flustered attempts to dodge the conversation.
“Right. So in my opinion, this room isn’t exactly fit for a hero like you.”
“I couldn’t agree more.”
“Which is why you should use the much nicer room up on the fourth floor.”
“Oh, I plan to.”
“Great. Then you should probably head there now and—”
“Would you like to come up with me?”
Annnnn
He’s probably lovesick
