An Extra Who Wants To Escape The Obsessive Male Lead - Chapter 118.2
Chapter 118.2
“Oh, no. Not at all.”
Ocean waved his hands.
“Y-You’re just… so different from the rumors…”
He trailed off under the intense stares of the other four relatives, a clear warning to keep his mouth shut.
To his relief, Duke Cartiel simply laughed.
“There are always those who seek to undermine those in power. I pay them no mind. Now then…”
He gestured gracefully toward the manor before finishing his words.
“Shall we refresh ourselves and have a meal?”
After days of being hunted, the offer was more than welcome.
“You needn’t worry about Argenta any longer.”
Siette Cartiel said with a gentle smile.
“I will protect you.”
Exhausted and relieved, none questioned Cartiel’s sudden generosity. The thought of being cast out was far less appealing than rest.
“Thank you.”
Ocean and the four others exchanged glances and entered the Cartiel manor.
Siette Cartiel’s smile vanished the moment they were gone. He removed his outer robe, now soiled from contact with their filthy clothes, and tossed it into the fireplace before extending a hand.
A servant silently offered him a handkerchief and retreated.
Siette Cartiel meticulously wiped his hands, then threw the handkerchief into the fire as well. With a flick of his wrist, he sent a gust of wind into the fireplace. The flames roared, consuming the robe and handkerchief, reducing them to ash.
His expression was cold as he addressed his servants.
“Keep them relaxed as much as possible.”
He glanced at the path the Alors relatives had taken. They would be useful pawns.
Disposable pawns.
‘I didn’t think I’d have to resort to this…’
‘Argenta has gained the upper hand?’
The news of the war’s outcome had been unexpected. But he had acted swiftly. As soon as he’d learned of Argenta’s decisive victory, he’d sent agents to infiltrate Alors and extract the distant relatives.
“Krua Alors… It’s best to assume the power she’s displayed so far is just a fraction of what she’s capable of.”
If she possessed the strength to surpass Pentas Alors and become the head of the family, he had to prevent her from consolidating her power.
His first move was to keep the Alors bloodline alive. A family’s total power was tied to the current head. However, it was also well known that the more family members who wielded power, the less the head retained.
“Keeping them alive will prevent the full concentration of Alors’s power…”
At least, it would prevent Krua from absorbing the power inherent in their bloodline. The problem was their inherent weakness. Keeping them alive was a temporary fix, like trying to empty the ocean with a bucket.
Therefore, he intended to destroy both Argenta and Alors with a more direct, fundamental approach.
He would seize the power of all three families and finally become the most powerful head of all. And for that plan, these foolish relatives were essential.
The dry Cartiel wind carried sand as it blew.
A scorpion, one of the few creatures that dared venture from the Cartiel-guarded desert, scuttled across the ground.
Crunch!
Siette’s boot crushed it beneath his heel. He smiled, a cold, detached smile, just as he had when he’d eliminated his own distant relatives.
