An Extra Who Wants To Escape The Obsessive Male Lead - Chapter 116.1
Chapter 116.1
The ‘custom’ Diello had spoken of, the one from two hundred years prior, was an impossibly sweet time.
Whenever I opened my eyes, he was there. Wherever I reached out, his warmth already lingered. Just as he’d promised, it was a day spent utterly absorbed in him, without needing to lift a finger. And during that time, I hadn’t seen a single servant.
It wasn’t until late the following afternoon that I finally saw someone.
Even then…
“Lord Diello, I have something urgent to discuss with you.”
Diello, his eyes narrowed at the interruption, finally left. Even as he went, he didn’t forget to press a kiss on my forehead.
“Sleep more.”
He’d smiled, saying I must be tired. I vaguely remember watching him dress, pulling on his shirt. When I finally came to my senses, it was the middle of the day.
‘Good heavens.’
I covered my face with my hands.
Knock, knock.
My gaze flew to the door at the sound.
“Come in.”
Only after hearing my voice did the door cautiously open, revealing Vielle and the other maids. Vielle, as always, wore her calm, composed expression, but the maids behind her were different. Their faces were brighter than usual, trailing after her with an almost giddy air.
“Good morning, Madam!”
They seemed unusually energetic today, their faces beaming. Even when Vielle shot them warning glances, their smiles didn’t falter.
“We’ve prepared a light meal for you.”
With only Vielle maintaining her composure, the maids began setting out the food from the trolley they’d brought in.
But then…
Clang!
The maids, usually so impeccably coordinated, seemed strangely clumsy.
“Oh dear!”
“Eek!”
The maids bumped into each other, dishes clattering. The pouring warm water seemed to struggle with the pitcher, her hand unusually unsteady. The water sloshed precariously, about to spill.
Woosh!
Without thinking, I summoned my magic, gently guiding the water back into the pitcher.
“Th-thank you, Madam!”
The startled maids thanked me profusely.
“…Please, all of you, return.”
Vielle, finally intervening, gestured for them to leave.
I blinked, watching them go.
“Did something happen?”
She shook her head.
“They’re all a little…excited. I apologize for disturbing you, Madam.”
However, even Vielle seemed slightly flustered, which puzzled me.
“I’ll eat slowly.”
Embarrassed to admit my back ached too much to get up, I dismissed the maids.
Thump.
As she left, Vielle, uncharacteristically, bumped lightly against the door.
“….?”
The strangeness in Argenta wasn’t limited to the maids.
Shriek!
A scream echoed from outside just as I finished eating.
“What was that?”
Startled, I tried to sit up but collapsed back onto the bed. Perhaps from using muscles I hadn’t used in a while, unexpected places ached, making it impossible to move properly.
Tug, tug, tug, tug, tug.
I pulled the bell cord.
A moment later…
Crash!
A loud clatter sounded from outside the door, followed by the scrambling of someone getting to their feet.
‘…What is going on?’
Confused, I looked towards the door just as Rick’s voice called out.
“D-Did you call?”
His voice, unusually shaky, hinted that something was amiss.
“What’s happening?”
After a moment of silence, Rick cautiously replied.
“If you’ll excuse me for just a moment.”
He opened the door a crack, just enough to bow slightly, without stepping inside. He seemed unable to even look me in the face.
‘Surely not…’
I quickly checked my attire. The maids had helped me into a light dressing gown earlier. There shouldn’t be any issue with him seeing me.
“Do you have any commands?”
