An Extra Who Wants To Escape The Obsessive Male Lead - Chapter 113.1
Chapter 113.1
“Having defeated Alors, it’s safe to say we’ve accomplished something significant.”
Diello’s words hung in the air. Apparently, after achieving a great feat or overcoming a major hurdle, it was customary to report to one’s ancestors in the family’s grave. Many noble families likely observed such traditions.
“You… thought about this, here?”
I blurted out.
‘Who thinks about such things on vacation, right after waking up?’
Diello blinked.
“Yes.”
‘Here?’
I was speechless.
“Well, if we have to go, we go together.”
“So, you’ll come with me?”
He looked so genuinely pleased that I tilted my head.
‘If it’s a place to visit after accomplishing something significant, why didn’t we go after we got married?’
I learned later that afternoon that this would be his first visit to the grave since becoming the head of Argenta.
* * *
“I’ll visit you next time, Madam!”
“We’ll see you back at the mansion.”
The carriage, seen off by Yulia and Redius, departed from their home. Originally intended for the Argenta mansion, it now diverted towards the family’s grave. Rick’s informants had already been sent ahead to make the necessary preparations.
‘The… grave, you say?’
Even Rick seemed taken aback by the mention, prompting him to repeat Diello’s order. However, he quickly scurried away when Diello narrowed his eyes. It was clear that a visit to the grave was far from a routine occurrence.
And the mention of ‘preparations,’ no less.
Graves were typically sacred spaces for noble families. It felt as if they were only just now getting around to cleaning it.
I glanced at Diello.
He stared out the window, his posture strangely stiff.
“We are going to the grave, right?”
‘Something felt off.’
Diello turned to me and nodded.
“Of course.”
He didn’t seem to be lying, so I pressed further.
“It’s been a while since you’ve been there, hasn’t it?”
Unable to lie when directly confronted, Diello finally confessed.
“Yes. It’s my first time since becoming Duke.”
I blinked. Since the previous Duke and Duchess of Argenta were interred there, this would be his first visit since their passing.
‘That’s an incredibly long time!’
However, his strange behavior didn’t end there.
* * *
“There’s no one here?”
Stepping out of the carriage, I was met by the unsettling silence of the grave. Even the caretakers, who should have been present, were nowhere to be seen.
“Then, enjoy your time!”
Rick, upon arrival, immediately dispersed with his informants. The problem was…
“Please call if you need anything.”
Seeing Vielle, being dragged away by a smiling Rick, uttering those words only amplified my suspicion. While I raised an eyebrow, Diello led me forward.
“I wanted to see the grave in peace.”
That was understandable, but… I studied his profile.
His usual gentle smile seemed strained. And that feeling of unease intensified as we ventured deeper into the grave.
“This is the tomb of the first Duke and Duchess of Argenta.”
Reaching the innermost part of the grave, he gestured towards the entrance of the first Duke’s tomb, acting as a guide. The entrance, leading downwards, seemed to conceal a larger space than expected.
“It’s said they entered three days before their deaths.”
I turned to him.
“Argenta has a tradition where the succeeding head personally cremates the previous head and places them in the grave. They are the only ones who were cremated within their coffins.”
“Did they know when they were going to die?”
Diello tilted his head slightly.
“The details aren’t entirely clear, but it’s said that those closer to the first generation were more sensitive to flames and magical energy.”
Leading me onward, he continued.
“Perhaps they sensed their magic fading.”
I looked back at the tomb.
