An Extra Who Wants To Escape The Obsessive Male Lead - Chapter 111.1
Chapter 111.1
“It’s best to take a detour when you’re busy.”
“I’m so glad you’ve decided to take a much-needed break.”
The staff, including Nias, welcomed the news of our impromptu vacation. It had been a busy time, coming right after dealing with Alors, and they seemed genuinely concerned about us working non-stop since the battle.
The carriage jolted as it set off.
Rick, his face as bright and cheerful as ever, took charge of our escort, while Vielle personally attended to us. Their presence made it clear that security wasn’t being overlooked, especially during these turbulent times.
‘Make sure everything’s taken care of while I’m gone. Got it?’
…Or perhaps, considering what Rick had said to his aide before we left, they wanted a vacation as well. In any case, as the carriage with its complicated backstory rolled along, I looked at Diello.
“I hope we aren’t intruding, considering she’s unwell.”
I’d heard that Redias’s wife, Yuria, had been in poor health for a long time. When Diello was young, he occasionally visited Redias and Yuria’s residence for rest. Each time, despite her illness, Yuria cared for him with utmost sincerity.
Her chronic condition had persisted for so long that her health could hardly be described as good even now. Despite Argenta’s wealth and access to the finest medicines, maintaining her current state was the best they could hope for.
“Will she be alright?”
At my worried words, Diello gave a slight nod.
“I received word that she’s doing well, so don’t worry.”
He smiled gently.
He seemed more at ease today than usual, almost like he had been during that tea time with Redias.
“My aunt is the type to be upfront if she’s struggling. Besides…”
He looked out the window.
Beyond the rapidly passing scenery, Redias’s residence was drawing closer.
“She’s more eager to see Krua, so it’s fine.”
“That’s a relief, but…”
It was strangely nerve-wracking in its own way. Perhaps it was because my nerves were on edge.
The carriage moved steadily along the smoothly paved road, its ride so gentle that it felt like sitting in a comfortable armchair.
Before I realized it, Diello had slipped his arm around me.
Leaning into him, gently drawn closer, I felt a soft warmth settle in my heart. A light breeze drifted through the open window.
Perhaps it was the warmth of his hand brushing through my hair, but I unknowingly began to doze off. The boundless energy I’d felt since becoming the head of the family seemed to be slowly ebbing away. Yet, it wasn’t an unpleasant exhaustion, so I quietly surrendered to sleep.
Redias’s residence was a modest house with a red roof. They had once lived in a larger mansion, but they’d moved to this smaller home due to Yuria’s difficulty moving around.
At first glance, it looked no different from the homes of other residents in the territory.
“But still, we have the head of the Argenta family line…”
Even though Lady Yuria uttered so with a worried look, Redias immediately refuted her words.
“Dignity comes from actions, not houses. Isn’t that right, my dear?”
At his words, she blushed.
“Oh my!”
…Her embarrassed appearance was something you’d only find in a novel, though it didn’t feel unnatural. It meant it wasn’t an act.
“Oh, dear me, where are my manners?”
Lady Yuria rose from the table where she’d led us.
“I’ll prepare a light meal. Would you like to look around the house while you wait?”
“A meal?”
Diello and I exchanged glances. There weren’t many servants in this house, so we’d had a light meal before coming. Vielle, who had come to attend to us, had been sent away by Lady Yuria, who insisted we enjoy our ‘much-needed vacation.’
Thanks to that, she was now standing guard outside with the rest of Rick’s subordinates.
“Refreshments would be sufficient.”
Lady Yuria shook her head after hearing my words.
“I can’t let the madam visit for the first time without tasting my cooking.”
Saying so, she then rolled up her sleeves.
“Then please, don’t overexert yourself.”
At my words, she smiled brightly. Redias, who had just brought out the fourth plate of fruit, quietly excused himself. Moments later, in the kitchen, he moved with incredible speed, arranging the cooking utensils with precision.
His determination to minimize Yuria’s movements was unmistakable.
“I knew Redias loved his wife very much, but…”
I was impressed by the sight.
“It’s more than the rumors suggest.”
Diello chuckled softly, but his voice seemed to be coming from a little further away.
Turning around, I saw him holding a wooden water bucket. It was a strange sight to see one of the empire’s three powerful dukes standing there holding a wooden water bucket.
After blinking a few times, Diello said, sounding embarrassed.
“It’s a habit.”
I burst out laughing at his words.
“Then, I’ll help you with that. I’ll look around the area.”
There wouldn’t be any danger anyway, as Rick, Vielle, and their subordinates were silently guarding the area around the residence.
“I’ll be right back.”
Finally, Diello smiled. That smile was truly the smile of someone who had come home, and it brought a smile to my own face.
“Wow…”
They had mentioned there were no servants, yet as I looked around the garden, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of admiration. It was impeccably maintained as though a gardener tended to it daily. I highly doubted Yuria would be allowed to manage it herself.
