Chapter 48.2
While Dreikan wasn’t particularly skilled in offensive magic, he excelled in gravitational magic, such as levitating objects. Because of this, he was often assigned to locations where magic stones were believed to be found. Using his magic, he carefully floated the device into place.
Leilia watched in silence. Since it was a magical instrument, it wouldn’t function unless handled by someone with magical ability.
“Prince Cassel, would you like to try moving it yourself?”
At Dreikan’s suggestion, Cassel glanced disinterestedly at the device.
Magical tools like this responded to the magic of their user. When touched, the device would react to the user’s magic, making it easy to measure their power.
‘Just how remarkable is he?’
The disciple of Zitlar.
How exceptional must he be for Zitlar to regret losing him?
Dreikan’s curiosity grew.
Leilia, equally curious, turned to Cassel.
“Would you like to try it?”
“Hmm.”
As even Leilia chimed in, Cassel placed his hand on the device. Immediately, the instrument began to react, moving in response to his magic.
‘What is this?’
No mage had ever made the device react this quickly—except perhaps Zitlar.
“It moves so quickly.”
Leilia uttered, marveling at the sight.
‘This is absurd!’
Dreikan clicked his tongue in frustration.
It felt as though the old inferiority complex he’d buried long ago was creeping back to the surface.
Shaking off the feeling, he quickly focused on measuring the magical power contained in the magic stone. After all, he needed to assess and report the grade of the stone. As Cassel had predicted, this area indeed yielded magic stones, and their quality was exceptional.
“These are likely top-grade magic stones.”
“I see. In that case, we’ll need to bring in a specialist who can process them.”
Leilia nodded in agreement while Dreikan let out a sigh.
He wanted to return to the Mage Tower as soon as possible. If he stayed here much longer, he feared those feelings of inferiority would resurface. With the machine confirming the presence of the magic stones, all that remained was issuing a permit for mining. However, that required documents signed by Zitlar.
All he had to do was return to the tower and report to Zitlar.
“When will you make the report?”
In response to Cassel’s question, Dreikan said indifferently.
“I’ll do it after returning today.”
“Why not just send a letter?”
Cassel continued, saying something unexpected.
“Let’s have a drink.”
Thinking back, they used to share coffee and discuss magic together. Cassel seemed to remember those times fondly, though Dreikan didn’t quite share the sentiment.
“Let’s do that.”
Leilia encouraged him as well.
Dreikan paused for a moment, reflecting on himself.
‘…Ha.’
He disliked Cassel. His exceptional talent, combined with the fact that he had never even pursued becoming a mage despite it, stirred a bitter, complicated feeling within Dreikan. But what he despised most was his inability to rid himself of these emotions, even now.
“All right.”
Being near Cassel, who constantly reminded him of his own inadequacies, was exhausting. Yet, he couldn’t bring himself to refuse the rare invitation to have a drink together after such a long time.
‘I’m just as indecisive as ever.’
He smiled bitterly at the thought.
Honestly, aside from his feelings of inferiority, the memories he shared with Cassel weren’t entirely unpleasant.
Besides…
He was also curious about how Leilia had managed to capture Cassel’s heart.
“I’d like to hear about Cassel’s academy days. It’s nice to hear from him directly, but I’m curious about how he seemed through someone else’s eyes.”
Leilia smiled warmly.
“He was quite the troublesome person.”
Dreikan pushed down his feelings and managed a smile as he spoke.
“How so?”
Just as Leilia asked curiously, Cassel furrowed his brow.
“What are you trying to say?”
“Just the truth.”
Dreikan replied.
“Then, I’ll get some drinks ready.”
Leilia added,
“Sounds good.”
Dreikan responded, welcoming her words.
He had been wanting a drink as well.

Dreikan gazed at the wine.
When they suggested having a drink, he had assumed it would be a decent but ordinary wine. Instead, they brought out an unimaginably rare vintage.
‘This…’
It was a rare wine, said to be impossible to purchase, even with money. He never thought he’d get the chance to taste something he had only ever heard about.
“Can I really drink this…?”
He asked Leilia. Since she was the one who had brought the bottle, he felt it was only right to ask her.
“You’re my husband’s friend.”
The gleaming wineglass and skewers of perfectly cooked meat caught his eyes. As he admired the spread, Dreikan muttered in apparent regret. Then, he spoke quietly to Leilia and Cassel, who were seated across from him.
“I wish I’d brought my wife.”
“You’re married?”
“Yes, and my wife was one of the women who used to have a crush on Cassel.”
Cassel frowned while Leilia’s eyes lit up with interest.
“A woman who had a crush on Cassel?”
Leilia asked curiously.
“His Highness Cassel was quite popular back in his academy days.”
“I’ve heard that. I met Lady Colia not long ago.”
Dreikan thought back to Colia. She had been the most stunning woman during their school days, yet she had suffered heartache because of Cassel.
His wife had gone through the same thing.
