You, Who's Kind Only To Me - Chapter 18
Ren followed Johann, stepping through the grand interior of the castle. The elegant decorations typical of the renowned and ancient noble house added to the castle’s grandeur, making it a work of art in itself.
She ascended the stairs following the brown-haired aide. She found herself gazing at the stained glass decorations adorning the walls of the staircase.
Instead of feeling overwhelmed by their grandeur, she sensed the scent of sunlight in this place.
The light streaming in from the high windows made the stained glass decorations sparkle with various hues. While they appeared imposing on the outside, delving into their interiors could evoke a warm and cozy feeling.
‘It’s not as cozy as your own place, but…’
‘….’
‘It won’t be too bad.’
Yes, it did feel like someone’s home.
“This is the place.”
Johann stopped in front of the second door on the second floor.
“If you need anything, just ring the bell on the table. Now, as for dinner… Do you have any specific preferences or any ingredients or spices you cannot consume?”
Ren looked at the half-rimless spectacles of the aide with a slightly curious gaze. He seemed like a neat and composed individual, a type she hadn’t encountered on the island. This intellectual, elite aura exuded from him was something she hadn’t seen before, at least not since she had woken up.
Of course, the same could be said for Lucas. However, she felt an odd sense of familiarity with that man, unlike any other. It was akin to the feeling of looking at the clear sea on a sunny day….. a sensation like the soft touch of foam on her fingertips.
“I eat anything.”
“Understood.”
Hmm, he seemed rather stern.
“Well then, I’ll see you at dinner tomorrow evening.”
“Yes, goodbye.”
The aide left, and Ren watched the brown-haired man disappear down the stairs, then turned the intricately patterned door handle.
Click.
Slowly, the afternoon sunlight poured in.
“Wow…”
Blow, blow-
The sound of the wind spirit singing through the open window. The warmly colored room welcomed her.
Soft silk curtains rippled, revealing a thriving city nestled along a river in the distance. Beyond that, the cobalt blue sea and the lighter sky stretched out.
The fluffy, marshmallow-like clouds drifting in the sky were incredibly adorable.
The scene resembled a watercolor painting hung on an easel.
As Ren stepped further into the room, she headed straight for the window overlooking the sea. As the wind tickled her cheeks, she felt a tingling sensation in her throat.
The floating notes seemed to beckon her to touch them. Ren found her lips parting unknowingly.
[The painter who painted the sea on the brush said]
[The endless horizon]
[The vast ocean is too much for the small canvas]
[However, dear bird. You don’t know.]
[Only one thing]
[The brightest sun connects the sky and the sea]
The wind blew.
“Ah!”
As she held onto the window sill, she laughed, feeling her hair being whipped around vigorously. Tucking the strands of her pink hair behind her ear, she was greeted with the lively view of the city.
An unknown bird chirped as it flew towards the horizon, and the gradually tilting sunset blurred the boundary between the sky and the sea as if tinted by paint.
The waves seemed to speak, and the wind whispered softly.
Her eyes, resembling the cobalt blue sea, sparkled with life. Just as she was about to part her lips once again-
Knock, knock!
There was a light knock.
“Hello, miss! I’m Marie, here to assist with your wardrobe!”
Caught off guard, Ren glanced around with her eyes.
“Since it’s summer, I’ve chosen something light and comfortable for you. May I come in?”
Her face flushed red, and she urgently turned from the window at the unfamiliar voice coming from outside the door.
What to do! What to do…! Did she listen?
The Auntie would often bang on the door, complaining about the noise whenever Ren sang. Since then, Ren had only hummed quietly, never singing as openly as this time.
Of course, it didn’t mean she never sang, but she tried not to disturb the Auntie too much.
‘Oh no, I get carried away too much!’
Enchanted by the beautiful scenery, she was excited in the moment. While she was feeling embarrassed and flustered, a voice came from outside the door.
“Miss? …Oh, have you already taken a bath? I’ve prepared the summer rosewater, a pride of Daverid…””
……She could sense the person outside getting a little gloomy.
Finally, Ren, with her eyes tightly shut, said.
“Come in!”
After a moment of silence, there was a bustling sound from outside the previously tranquil door.
“Oh! You’re awake! Marie will come in!”
Click, the door opened.
A maid with braided reddish-brown hair, carrying a bundle of garments, walked in and widened her eyes upon seeing Ren by the window.
“Oh my goodness! Aren’t you feeling cold? Oh no no, this isn’t the time for this.”
The maid, who introduced herself as Marie, smiled brightly, her freckles dotting her face.
“Before you change your clothes, how about indulging in a rose bath? The Daverid summer roses are coveted even by the beauties from far-off lands across the sea.”
Her voice, infused with a strong southern accent, sounded like a song.
If Lucas’s voice felt like a tranquil night sea under a starry sky, Marie’s voice resembled the blazing midday summer sun on the sea.
Ren generally gauged people based on their voices. Even a strikingly handsome face, in her opinion, paled in comparison to such a refined voice. To Ren, the maid, resembling the summer sea, was as unpredictable as the high waves.
“Miss, if I may not be presumptuous, are you from the north? All the clothes I prepared are on the lighter side, but if you feel chilly, I can bring you some thicker garments.”
And that thought hit the mark. To avoid being swept away by the swiftly changing topic of conversation, Ren felt she needed to stay focused.
