We're in a Contract Marriage, But I've Imprinted - Chapter 151
Even if they had no genuine feelings, Melissa was still legally his wife, so naturally, Ian would be concerned about her.
Let’s not get caught next time.
This was the conclusion Monica had reached through various speculations. She had deliberately avoided tormenting Melissa in Ian’s presence. She was sure she had done so, so why had things turned out this way?
Was it the problem caused by the pheromone-inducing drugs? Or perhaps it was due to mistakes made by her father and brother?
Or, maybe it was something from the very beginning…
“Aahh!”
A surge of uncontrollable fury erupted in an instant. Monica hurled the remaining few pieces of her broken vase to the floor and began throwing everything she could get her hands on.
“Miss!”
Jesse, who was in the room with her, tried to intervene, but was unable to approach due to the shards scattered around. She was also somewhat exhausted.
Gone were the days when Monica used to eagerly visit the Duchy every day. Now, she was confined at home, caught in a cycle of frenzied outbursts.
How long was she expected to endure this temper? Jesse, feeling disillusioned, simply clung to the wall, waiting for the tantrum to burn itself out.
As Jesse had predicted, Monica soon exhausted herself and collapsed.
Leaning almost entirely on the sofa, Monica’s eyes, filled with venom, silently streamed with tears. Jesse called for maids to clean up the mess on the floor.
While the maids tidied up efficiently, a new maid arrived with a letter that had no sender listed, which she handed to Jesse.
“This letter was sent urgently from that side. Please give it to the Miss.”
“Alright, thank you.”
Jesse recognized the sender of the letter well. She hoped it would help improve Monica’s mood.
“Miss, there’s an urgent letter from that side. Please take a look.”
As expected, Monica snatched the letter immediately after hearing Jesse’s words. She tore it open with almost violent haste.
As Monica quickly read through the letter, her expression grew darker and more troubled. She began to tremble all over and abruptly stood up from her seat.
The sight of Monica’s face, streaked with tears and her eyes filled with madness, made Jesse flinch involuntarily. Monica looked like someone who had completely lost their mind, causing Jesse to hesitate and try to distance herself.
But a sharp command quickly followed.
“Get ready to go out immediately.”
Jesse had no choice but to follow Monica’s orders and helped her put on her dress. Once Monica was quickly prepared, she headed straight for Duchy Bryant.
She couldn’t believe the contents of the letter sent by the head maid and decided to verify the information in person.
“Ian took his own life?”
It was unbelievable. It shouldn’t have happened. After all, she had gone through so much to get here!
“What happens to the Duchess’ position if the Duke is gone?”
Monica muttered to herself like a fool, knowing full well that if he disappeared, what she had longed for would also vanish forever.
As soon as she arrived at the estate, she rushed to Ian’s room. Before the servants could even react, Monica barged into Ian’s room and lunged at him, who was still lying in bed.
“Get up!”
“Lady, you can’t do this here!”
The doctor, who had been caring for Ian, tried to stop Monica, but she held tightly onto Ian’s arm and wouldn’t let go.
“Let go of this! Ian, wake up!”
“What are you doing? Don’t just stand there!”
The doctor yelled at the astonished maids who stood around, looking bewildered. Being male, he couldn’t physically intervene himself.
“Miss, you can’t do this…”
“This is…”
Knowing Monica’s usual temperament, the maids were hesitant to actively intervene. Henry, who had just heard the news and arrived, came forward, enraged by Monica’s actions.
“What is this nonsense!”
It was only then that Monica stopped and, with her eyes reddened, asked Henry.
“Is it true that Ian tried to kill himself?”
“…”
Henry narrowed his eyes and stared silently. Seeing his reaction, Monica grew more frantic and asked urgently.
“No, it can’t be true, right?”
“…”
“Why aren’t you answering? Just say he’s injured or something!”
A shrill scream echoed. Henry gestured to the maids standing nearby.
“Get out of here. And…”
He pointed at one of the maids as he spoke. When that maid approached, Henry warned in a serious tone.
“Forget everything you’ve seen here once you leave this room. You must not speak of it anywhere in the mansion. Do you understand?”
“Yes.”
“Then, go.”
As soon as Henry finished speaking, the maids quickly exited, and the heavy door was shut behind them. Only then did Henry turn his attention to Monica and approach her.
“Lady.”
Henry, who usually addressed Monica as ‘Miss’, now used her formal title as he continued.
“Who did you hear this news from that brought you here?”
It was then that Monica realized her mistake. In her panic, she had rushed over without thinking, even though the letter had said it was a secret.
However, she boldly decided to play it off.
“…What are you talking about? I’ve been coming here for days.”
“It wasn’t just a visit, was it?”
“I came because I wanted to see him! Why are you making this such a big deal? It’s not like it’s anything important.”
“Hm, I see.”
Henry, who had been meticulously observing Monica’s reaction, stroked his beard and nodded thoughtfully. He wasn’t expecting to gain any significant information from her; he was simply curious about her reaction.
Henry made a mental note of the informant who had contacted her and intended to address it later.
“Let go! I need to see Ian wake up!”
“That’s not possible. Please leave.”
“Ian! Please come to your senses! This can’t be happening. You promised you’d accept me as the Duchess!”
Yet Monica, too, was not one to back down easily. If the Duke was gone, the Duchess would disappear as well.
