Villainous Husband, the One You’re Obsessed With Is Over There - Chapter 217
Chapter 109.1
He had long since dismissed the notion that the Emperor would have killed Angelica.
Eden recalled what happened at the Temple of Tunia. It was easy to recall since, for him, it felt as vivid as if it were just yesterday.
Even at the height of his anger, the only injury Raniero inflicted on Angelica was a wound to her ankle caused by a stray arrow. Eden, who was unaware of Actilla’s voice and the divine punishment lurking in Raniero’s head, concluded that Angelica, who had returned to Actilus, would face no threat to her life from him.
Regardless, it seemed strange if the Empress’s death wasn’t the Emperor’s will.
Wasn’t the funeral too modest?
Richard, who had heard of the Empress’s passing, said in a puzzled tone.
“The Empress of a nation has gone a long way, but there’s no procession to honor her, just announcing that she’s ‘dead’ and leaving it at that?”
It wasn’t just him who felt that the mourning procedure for the imperial family was insufficient. People from countries other than Sombinia seemed a bit perplexed by that aspect as well. Some have cautiously raised the possibility that perhaps the Emperor might have been indifferent to the Empress’s death.
‘But the Emperor has never once appeared outside the palace since the Empress’s death, and he seemed to be living in seclusion…’
Eden, who had pondered this far, felt a throbbing headache and closed his eyes tightly.
“He wasn’t living a secluded life because of sadness.”
…The Emperor, who had hidden his wife somewhere, refused to leave his sanctuary.
He almost sprinted down the stairs at the thought.
In the living room on the first floor, Richard was soothing a crying child. Eden, who witnessed this scene, felt a sense of wonder towards the man in front of him for the first time. It was as if fate had led him outside today to encounter that child and to feel the impulse to bring him back.
‘How far does his luck extend?’
Richard faced Eden with a strange expression. He spoke to him without making a sound, only moving his lips.
‘Once the child stops crying, I’ll carefully ask if we can find out anything else.’
Eden nodded, not bothering to add that he didn’t have to be careful. Then, he headed to the basement conference room through the secret passage in the staircase and the wardrobe.
As he passed through the narrow and dark passage, he strengthened his resolve.
If Angelica was alive, he had to move.
He had to find a way to contact her somehow.
But she was in the palace, and Raniero wouldn’t come out of the palace either.
He must be highly vigilant now. There was a high chance he had blocked off all of her external contact channels because of her previous escape. If an assassination attempt had been added to the mix, it would almost be impossible to contact Angelica while Raniero held sway in the palace.
In the end, there was only one option.
‘We have to get him out of the palace.’
As he entered the underground conference room, several of those engaged in conversation looked up to confirm his presence. Since hearing the news of the Empress’s death, Eden had never once been in the underground chamber. Because of that, their brows frowned slightly, finding his presence unfamiliar and strange.
Eden made eye contact with each of them, unperturbed.
He had a clear purpose.
He had to meet Angelica, the Saintess of Tunia, have her kill Raniero, and return home by opening the door of the old sanctuary.
Without Angelica, nothing would be achieved.
Eden was well aware of the limitations of his abilities. It was impossible to meet her alone in the current situation. So, ultimately, he needed the assistance of the anti-Actilus coalition. However, they wouldn’t offer him help without questioning or probing.
He didn’t expect such a fairytale-like scenario. Wouldn’t reclaiming Angelica serve as an equally appealing deal for them as well?
His heart raced painfully.
It was time to bring up the story of the Saintess of Tunia, which he had hidden until now. Then, he cleared his raspy voice and opened his mouth.
“There’s a way to kill the Emperor of Actilus.”
Those in the conference room furrowed their brows at his words.
“Aren’t you the one who said there was no way to kill him? The lion said so.”
The term ‘lion’ referred to Richard. The term was coined because he was living under Actilus, an enemy of Sombinia, and it was difficult to call him King of Sombinia straightforwardly.
Eden took a deep breath.
“In fact, there is one.”
Richard’s right-hand man, commonly referred to as ‘Mantis,’ asked irritably.
“What are you talking about all of a sudden?”
Eden didn’t lay out all the details of why he was saying this, or why he had kept it hidden until now. He kept his words very simple and only laid out the essentials to the point where it seemed somewhat unexpected.
“The Saint of Tunia can kill the heir of Actilla.”
