Villainous Husband, the One You’re Obsessed With Is Over There - Chapter 208
Chapter 104.2
Though they didn’t know what Richard’s ‘matter’ was, it was too difficult to turn away from the grains that could fill the stomachs of starving children right now.
The Archbishop asked with a trembling voice.
“What… matter are you referring to?”
“I’m going to attack Actilus.”
Everyone who heard the simple words was stunned.
Richard furrowed his brows, thinking that their reaction was excessive. At that moment, even the young priest, who had been touching the grains as if they were something miraculous, let out a small scream and withdrew his hand from the box.
They were sick and tired of getting tangled up with Actilus.
The Archbishop’s shoulders slumped. He gestured to Richard and then turned on his heel and shuffled towards the reception room. Seeing that, Richard shrugged towards the people he had brought along and followed him.
As they sat down with a cup of bitter tea made from one of the rare plants found in the temple, Richard opened his mouth.
“I’ll be straightforward. I’m not asking for troops. I’m asking for information.”
The Archbishop looked at him with a complex expression.
“I know that Raniero Actilus has visited the temple. It’s shameless, but I’d like to hear what happened then.”
“Did you decline the request for support and suggest for us to ask Actilus for help in order to obtain information…?”
In the face of the Archbishop’s rational suspicion, Richard grimaced and chuckled awkwardly as if he were embarrassed.
“It wasn’t like that. It may seem that way, but… the situation in Sombinia wasn’t good at the time.”
“What the king says doesn’t logically make sense. To attack Actilus shortly after suffering from an epidemic.”
The Archbishop’s voice trembled as he finished his words.
“So, wouldn’t it be more reasonable to think of that as… an excuse?”
“Hmm.”
Richard hesitated, his face showing a struggle to decide whether to speak or not, before he let out a long sigh.
“As the king, it’s not easy for me to show the weaknesses of my country… But, very well. If you’d like me to explain about the situation in Sombinia at the time…”
At that moment, without even a knock, the door burst open.
The Archbishop screamed as he saw the person who opened the door.
“Eden!”
Eden didn’t even look at him as he parted his lips.
“Do you know how to kill Raniero Actilus?”
Richard asked incredulously.
“You didn’t set up someone to guard the front?”
The Archbishop replied with great embarrassment.
“Normally, there’s no problem even without setting up guards. No one comes in, and no one eavesdrops.”
“That’s a pretty unconvincing thing to hear at a time when we’ve got someone breaking in like this…”
Eden continued, ignoring the troubled-looking Richard and the Archbishop, who looked ashamed.
“Until Actilla’s next successor is decided, Raniero Actilus will not die. The more he’s bound with Actilla on the battlefield, the more monstrous he becomes.”
“Eden, leave at once!”
“Just a moment, there’s no need to send him away.”
Richard intervened with the Archbishop, who was waving his cane in anger. He already seemed to be quite intrigued by Eden’s revelations.
“Go on, young priest.”
Eden spoke quickly, not bothering to correct Richard’s assumption that he was a paladin, not a priest. He knew he had to seize the opportunity when this man showed interest.
“Not only does his wounds heal as quickly as they occur, even if a lot of blood is shed, he could move as if he’s never been hurt at all.”
“What about cutting the throat or piercing the heart?”
Eden smiled coldly and gestured to his own neck.
“I severed this artery, but it was futile.”
“Ah, Eden…”
Even though the Archbishop lamented, Richard became even more entranced by the story of Eden.
“You speak as if you’ve ever cut his throat?”
“I have.”
“Come, sit here, young priest. Eden? I want to hear your story.”
Eden didn’t miss the opportunity.
As the Archbishop looked at him with an empty gaze, Eden, who was looking at Richard with an unrelenting flame in his abyss-like eyes, spoke boldly.
“Before we go any further, I have a question of my own.”
Despite the fact that it was a rude remark, Richard brushed it off with a smile. He was an easygoing and generous king.
“Try it.”
“How do you plan to attack Actilus?”
Richard narrowed his brows slightly.
“You want me to lay it all out?”
“Cards are opened one at a time.”
“Oho.”
“One question, one answer.”
“Good.”
“Eden!”
Eden, not the least bit intimidated by the reprimand, cut him off.
“Your Holiness the Archbishop, please leave.”
Even though he wore a grim expression, the Archbishop knew Eden wouldn’t listen to him. This was the consequence paid for rejecting his words and not sending the paladins to protect Angelica. Just as the Archbishop hadn’t listened to his words then, it seemed Eden was determined to resist now.
After the Archbishop glanced at his face before sighing deeply and leaving the room, Eden took a deep breath, looking straight into the face of Richard, the King of Sombinia, who had emerged as a new possibility.
‘I won’t fail. This time, I won’t fail. I’ll not fall to the whims of the gods. I’m going back home.’
“Let’s begin.”
