Villainous Husband, the One You’re Obsessed With Is Over There - Chapter 204
Chapter 102.2
Raniero was busy on his own.
He opened the door of the room and disappeared, returning with a lukewarm meal by the time the sun slowly rose, and the room brightened. Even though I couldn’t help but wonder who on earth he was bothering at this hour to bring me this, the thought that he actually took care of me in a clumsy way left me with a strange feeling.
‘Who taught him to feed a lukewarm, unseasoned meal to someone who had collapsed?’
As I entertained meaningless thoughts, I found myself accepting whatever he offered, reminiscent of the time when I learned to shoot a bow before the summer hunt. The food was tasteless and not enjoyable, but in response to his sincerity, I accepted everything he gave me. The plate emptied, and Raniero seemed very pleased.
“How long has it been?”
As I asked cautiously, my voice hoarse, Raniero replied straight away.
“Ten days.”
I was surprised by his response. I hadn’t realized so much time had passed. It felt like I had only been on the other side for an hour or two.
“Ten days…”
So, this was why I didn’t have much strength.
“Poison…”
I was about to say, ‘I heard that I was poisoned,’ without thinking, but I thought that if I said that, people would ask me where on earth I heard that, so I bit my tongue and corrected my words.
“They tried it, right?”
As I corrected myself cautiously, a shadow briefly crossed Raniero’s expression at my words. But soon, his face returned to normal.
“It’s okay.”
It was words that felt bottomless. Because of that, I gave him a look demanding an explanation.
“You’re safe now.”
“Did you kill the perpetrators?”
I asked out of mere curiosity. However, Raniero, visibly withered to the point where someone unfamiliar with his nature might have pitied him, responded to me.
“Can’t I do that?”
“Uh…”
It wasn’t like that.
“Are you afraid of that?”
“Ah, that’s…”
Without giving me a chance to speak, he whispered, a little desperately and urgently.
“I killed two, but one is still alive. Should I spare them?”
“No, you don’t have to do that…”
As my attitude became uncertain and hesitant, he instantly looked lost. He looked anxious and unsure.
“So, it’s okay to kill?”
When he asked me that, I wasn’t sure what I really didn’t know what to answer.
I didn’t particularly feel triumphant about killing them, but I don’t feel sympathy for them either. There were supposedly three perpetrators, but aside from Duchess Nerma and Countess Fallon, who blatantly emitted suspicious feelings, I didn’t know who the third person was, nor did I particularly care.
It felt like it really didn’t matter.
I shook my head slightly.
“Just handle it as you see fit. It doesn’t matter to me.”
“Angie…”
He held my hand as if I might fly off somewhere if he didn’t hold on to it. Then, as if suddenly remembering, he began speaking with an expectant voice.
“I arranged for Cisen and Sylvia Jacques to stay at the Empress’s palace. You asked for that, didn’t you?”
“Ah.”
I nodded.
I was relieved that Cisen and Sylvia were released. Honestly, considering Raniero’s reaction when I requested it, I had thought their release would be possible.
“Then, I can return to the Empress’s palace now…”
I naturally thought so.
However, the moment I uttered those words, Raniero’s expression froze instantaneously. His expression sparked a physiological effect in me. The fear that had been momentarily suppressed resurged, and I tightly shut my mouth. It felt like I had touched upon something bad.
“You’re not going back to the Empress’s palace.”
He answered flatly.
“From now on, you’ll stay here all the time. If there’s any necessity for you to go out, I’ll accompany you, so keep that in mind.”
“Yes?”
“You’re officially dead.”
This was completely appalling news.
…What?
Dead? Me?
“So, no one will be looking for you, and there will be no duties for you to fulfill as the Empress of Actilus in the future.”
Raniero’s attitude was quite different from when he asked me earlier whether to kill the perpetrators. This time, it felt like an insistence to follow his decision without question.
I glanced around the room in confusion.
What on earth has Raniero done during the past ten days while I was asleep?
Despite the fact that I wanted to know exactly how the events unfolded, there was no one around to provide an objective explanation in refined language. Even if there were, I probably wouldn’t be able to meet them. It was almost impossible for me to leave this room without Raniero’s consent. To do so, I would’ve to unlock the mechanical lock that only he knew the answer to.
“So, right now, me…”
Just as I was about to ask if I was being imprisoned, Raniero interrupted me.
“It’s for your protection.”
The concept sounded quite unfamiliar, coming from his mouth.
…Protection.
“Do you remember what you told me you wanted?”
What did I say I wanted?
It was difficult to remember when we had that conversation, so I just stared blankly at his face.
“Peace. You said you wanted to have peace.”
Raniero uttered with a confident expression.
“Here, you can have the peace you’ve always longed for.”
