Villainous Husband, the One You’re Obsessed With Is Over There - Chapter 176
Chapter 88.2
It was unusual for the recovery to be this fast. The wound inflicted by Eden, the paladin, who had gritted his teeth and stabbed him with his dagger, was almost completely healed.
It still hurts, but by tomorrow, the pain would likely subside, and in a week, it would probably be completely gone without a trace. The more closely associated with Actilla, the faster the wounds heal, and the body’s capabilities become immensely strengthened. The monstrous resilience was a testament to the close connection between the god and his chosen avatar and was a subject of reverence.
Angelica was afraid of this, too.
It seemed that all of his correct answers were wrong for her. She had always existed outside the rules he had lived by. In fact, the existence of such individuals had never been a significant issue for him until now. Why bother figuring out the emotions of ants? Even if he didn’t know, it never interfered with him playing with them.
Raniero touched his neck again. When he told her to touch his wound, he remembered how pale she had become. It was a repulsive face as if witnessing something unbearable.
The beautiful lips twisted.
Now, he, like Angelica moments ago, was shivering.
The fingers that were probing his neck ruthlessly squeezed the wound. Because of that, the wound, which had been healing somewhat, tore open with a squelching sound.
Such a blessing.
For the first time, Raniero denied his God.
At that moment, Actilla became furious. A piercing scream tore through Raniero’s mind. It sounded like the wail of a newborn with its vocal cords bursting, yet it also resembled the dying scream of a cat.
He clutched his head.
Actilla chastised his godson in incomprehensible words. Raniero could feel that the God of War was angry.
…His son, who had always been dutiful, denied him.
Despite the fact that he had helped him find Angelica, he was now rejecting God’s protection.
His body leaned further and further forward until he lost his balance and fell. Striking the floor, the impact mingled with the direct onslaught of God’s wrath inside his head and Raniero the first excruciating headache of his life.
He screamed, his whole face contorted.
Raniero writhed on the floor and convulsed. The merciless god assaulted him without hesitation. The pain soon spread throughout his entire body. What seemed like a gentle pounding to his whole body turned into a scorching furnace that consumed his limbs.
‘If you dislike blessings, is this what you desire?’
Amidst an eerily high-pitched noise, that sentence was precisely driven into his mind.
The priests of the God of Mercy stared at the Raniero, who was convulsing with faces filled with fear. However, none of them dared to intervene. Just like Angelica, they were afraid of him as well, and they lacked the courage to step in. So, he continued to suffer until the wrath of the god was appeased. Unlike Angelica, he didn’t swear allegiance or pledge obedience to the being that caused him pain. He simply endured the suffering.
At some point, the punishment from God ceased.
Raniero, looking up at the ceiling, gasped. The always burning and radiant crimson eyes’ focus loosened and became blurry. As he coughed and struggled to rise, his head spinning as if he were nauseous, while on all fours, he retched as though he were motion sickness.
No one helped him up.
In fact, if anyone had tried to lift him, he would’ve been furious.
He shook his head a few times to come to his senses, but it seemed that there was a commotion outside. He could hear someone shouting something, and people who heard the sound opened their eyes wide and ran down the stairs.
He staggered to his feet, righted the chair, and sat down, breathing heavily.
Seraphina, safe, thank God, hurt.
Amidst the murmuring noise, he could catch these words. It seemed the Saintess left behind in the old sanctuary had returned, accompanied by the paladin who was still alive.
Raniero’s prediction was correct.
The next moment, some unknown people, whether they were priests or paladins, came in, supporting the man who was in disrepair. The Saintess glanced briefly in his direction and shivered.
Following her gaze, Eden glanced at him absentmindedly. It felt like an intense and piercing stare. To have such a look in his eyes, even after being so beaten up so much, was remarkable. It seemed like he was someone who could easily end his life. Then, the seemingly insignificant opponent approached him staggeringly with a body that seemed difficult to control. Raniero looked at him silently.
“I’m a human… and you are a god, keuh… even if I am destined to fail…”
In a voice that hissed under his breath, he uttered with difficulty.
“I’ll confront… so that no one else but me can assess, keuk… my limits…”
Raniero spoke coldly.
“Your determination is good.”
Even with a swollen and battered face in disarray, he could acknowledge the courage to utter such words, nevertheless, only to that extent.
He had no intention of being respectful.
“However, I’m not curious about your determination.”
At those words, Eden burst into laughter.
Raniero furrowed his eyebrows at the unexpected reaction.
