Villainous Husband, the One You’re Obsessed With Is Over There - Chapter 171
Chapter 86.1
It seemed obvious whom the sword was targeting.
“N, no!”
I stood up.
As I accidentally put weight on my injured foot in a hurry, an intense pain shot up my leg, making my head ring. Nevertheless, I gritted my teeth and endured it. I stood in front of Eden, blocking the way. Considering my usual tendency to always contemplate escape in the face of danger, this was beyond imagination.
After committing to it, my jaw trembled. I was so terrified that I even forgot about the pain in my ankles. For a brief moment, I regretted drawing his attention by covering for Eden.
Raniero stared at me, holding the long sword casually with one hand. His expression was so emotionless that it resembled a corpse.
It would be better for me to crawl and hide between the shelves. Still, if Eden were to die now, even if I managed to survive here, it felt like I would live a dreadful life for the rest of my days. It was different from the summer hunts. It was one thing to stand up to someone who was hostile to me, but it was a very different thing to sacrifice a friendly person and run away.
Tears flowed down my eyes endlessly.
Foolish Angelica.
I ended up in the middle of it. I turned into a person who was neither thoroughly honest nor thoroughly kind. Why did I boast that I would only do my best to survive if I ended up making this choice if something like this happened?
As Raniero slowly lowered his arm, the sharp edge of the sword went straight to my throat. I whimpered, tilting my head backward, but the blade came even closer.
In a hoarse voice, he ordered me.
“Move aside.”
However, I didn’t budge. My body trembled uncontrollably, yet I remained rooted in place.
I could hear Eden’s breathing from behind. I could sense that he was racking his brain. It seemed that he was trying not to provoke Raniero excessively here while seeking a way for both me and him to survive.
Regardless, it was in vain. There was no such a path.
As Raniero threatened me a little closer, the metal touched my neck. The sensation sent shivers down my spine, and I could feel that his sword had inflicted a very thin cut on my skin.
“Move aside. Do you want me to say it three times?”
I trembled and let out a long breath, but I didn’t move aside.
Let’s be prepared.
‘…I’m going to die.’
Both Eden and I would die.
‘Goodbye, Eden. Even though you may be annoying, you were still a dependable companion.’
Just as I closed my eyes, silently bidding farewell to Eden, a sudden loud noise erupted.
Clang!
It sounded like breaking ice with a chisel. When I opened my eyes, the sword was lying on the ground. It seemed like Raniero had thrown away his sword. As if he was amused by my feeble attempt to block his way, he easily swept me aside with his bare hands.
I let out a small scream as I stumbled backward. It felt like the arrowhead was digging deeper into my ankle.
I grimaced. Despite the fact that the pain blurred my vision, in the next moment, my senses sharpened again due to the merciless sound that reached my ears. It was because Raniero, who was pressing Eden against the wall, was pounding him with his fists.
Eden’s head jerked sharply.
Once, twice.
Perhaps it would have been less frightening if Raniero had said something, but he continued to batter Eden with a relentless force, like a machine, in an oppressive silence.
When he was first struck, Eden had a grip on Raniero’s arm.
It was a moment of resistance. Sounds of pain were audible. Nonetheless, by the fifth or sixth blow, his hand dropped limply, and he made no sound. I reached out and grabbed the hem of Raniero’s clothing, pulling with all my strength. Even if I tried with all my might, it would have been enough to be ignored, but he came to an abrupt stop.
I whimpered and whispered.
“Stop… please, stop. I was wrong…”
As I crawled over, grabbed his ankle with both hands, and pulled, Raniero released Eden into the air, and he descended like an inanimate object.
Although I needed to check if Eden was alive, I couldn’t because Raniero turned his upper body to look down at me. His expression was still inhumanly expressionless, and the eyes that had burned fiercely just moments ago were now vacant.
He asked hollowly as if his soul had escaped.
“Are you afraid?”
I couldn’t say a word and just looked up at him.
Raniero slowly knelt on one knee in front of me before he tilted his head and whispered again.
“Are you scared that this person is going to die? Are you angry? Are you afraid of me?”
Even though it was an obvious statement, I couldn’t bring myself to say it because I was too frightened. I let go of his ankle, unable to convey my intention with even a simple gesture.
As my hand slowly moved away, he suddenly grabbed it tightly.
“Kyaak!”
I screamed, involuntarily pulling my hand away. However, Raniero’s strength was overwhelming, and he didn’t allow me to escape. With hands stained by Eden’s blood, he pulled my hand towards him and then forced me to touch his neck.
“Come on, look. Angie. Look at this. I’m hurt, too.”
The trembling of my body didn’t cease. I couldn’t resist, and I followed his lead as I traced the wound.
A shiver ran through me.
