Villainous Husband, the One You’re Obsessed With Is Over There - Chapter 160
Chapter 80.2
He knew of such a concept, but this was the first time he had actually felt it. So, not surprisingly, he had no immunity to it. Up until now, the most negative emotions he had known were annoyance and boredom. With his extraordinary insight, keen senses, and innate physical prowess, he had always been at the top of everyone.
A fall was even more painful for those who were high up.
A sense of crisis weighed on him.
Cut out the tongue? That wasn’t enough. He had to kill. Although he didn’t know the exact reason, it had to be done.
“Are you going to kill me?”
He clenched his teeth so hard his jaw hurt.
“Kill me! I’m willing to die. Go ahead, kill me, and then your wife will fear you even more. Kill me, find your wife and tell her that you killed Sylvia Jacques! That you killed that poor maid who was caught instead of her!”
“No.”
Raniero denied it once more.
“The Empress feels not love but fear for you. Try pushing her into even deeper fear.”
“No.”
“As long as she fears you, you won’t obtain love!”
“No!”
The sword swung.
At the realization, as his eyes fluttered open, the sword awkwardly hit the ground, missing the target entirely. As Sylvia looked at the sword, he hadn’t touched a single hair on her body.
As he staggered, all eyes were on him.
“No…”
His voice was pitiful.
The Duke and Duchess of Dosino were shocked at the sight of the Emperor seemingly so vulnerable as Raniero’s trembling hand picked up the sword that had fallen on the floor.
…He couldn’t kill Sylvia.
Her cunning tongue had seized his wrist and made him drop his sword.
Sheathing the sword he’d picked up, he raised it into the air again. However, as if cursed, both his arms refused to budge. He yelled meaningless words and dropped the sword before he crouched down, clutching his head. Despite the fact that he wanted to deny her words, each of her words stuck in his mind like a hook and wouldn’t let go.
Angelica was gone.
If Sylvia’s words were true, she ran away because she was scared and hated him, and the words ‘I love you’ were lies told to lull him into complacency.
He wanted to argue that Angelica didn’t fear him to that extent, but…
He had seen her face, filled with terror, too many times to make that claim.
As Raniero raised his eyes, the two bound women were silently watching in his direction.
By his temper, it would be right to end the lives of those two, as it was what they deserved for insulting the Emperor. Nevertheless, if he did that, it would indeed make Angelica even more terrified, as Sylvia had said. He knew that fear was never a good friend to Angelica. When she had frightening dreams, she would claw at her own throat with her nails. Fear drove her to self-harm.
If he was a source of fear to her, she might have been destined to escape from him.
Still, he didn’t like that.
Raniero had never let go of what he desired—plunder, exploitation, and conquest had long been his companions. On the other hand, humiliation was a distant acquaintance.
He had to bring her back.
Angelica knew that he was relentless. He blindly assumed that even as she ran away, she never thought that she would be able to escape from him forever. So, she wouldn’t be particularly surprised even if she were caught again.
“Fearing me…”
He muttered.
She must be scared, because she had actively defied him. Angelica must have been afraid of the consequences of her actions.
At that moment, Raniero’s face, which had been greatly agitated, suddenly became calm.
Sylvia frowned at the unsettling change.
“I just need to let her know… that she doesn’t need to be afraid.”
He thought that would work.
All he had to do was chase after her and bring her back, then forgive her. He could show her that Cisen and Sylvia, whom she cherished, were unharmed and calmed her down by saying he wasn’t angry and embracing her.
In addition, the fact that the Empress ran away could become an annoying piece of gossip, follow Angelica wherever she goes, and possibly bring disgrace to her, so he decided that the whole thing would be chalked up to ‘winter hunting fun.’
[ T/N: Obviously, it’s undeniable that Raniero is completely insane and what he had done to others is clearly unforgivable, but as the author shows us his vulnerable side, I couldn’t help but feel sad and pity him (っ◞ ‸ ◟ c) Things might be a little different if they communicated but alas— ( ;’ – ` ; ) ]
There was nothing to worry about.
Even though his eyes became calm, that didn’t mean he was rational.
He calmly went insane.
Eventually, he opened his mouth with a relaxed, sweet smile as usual that it was impossible to imagine that he had completely fallen apart just a moment ago.
“It’s just a fun game.”
Reason argued that it wasn’t amusing in the slightest, but Raniero disregarded that voice.
An amusing game.
‘…A game board prepared for me by ‘My Angie’.’
It was commendable and endearing.
Raniero chuckled. As he kept repeating that it was amusing, it really seemed to become fun.
Sylvia looked at him with a dumbfounded expression.
