Villainous Husband, the One You’re Obsessed With Is Over There - Chapter 159
Chapter 80.1
Who would have thought that one could see a look of insecurity and denial of reality in the always arrogant and self-confident face of Raniero? It was Angelica’s doing, but Sylvia was delighted to know that her own touch was also present in that work.
Even though she tried to hold back her laughter, it kept bursting out.
Her life was dedicated to him. Her body and soul had been destined to belong to the man who would become emperor from the moment she was born.
She obeyed that life.
She became a strong, beautiful, and graceful woman. It was because she had achieved perfection to such an extent that her mother and brother couldn’t accept Raniero’s choice and planned something presumptuous.
In this way, Jacques’s fate was doomed to die.
As soon as she escaped their grasp, she fell into someone else’s hands as a toy. Her life belonged to others… and what was life to her was a plaything to others. The moment she realized this, she grew to despise this destiny intensely, and she hated the Emperor for playing with her life and then losing interest in it.
She hadn’t been striving all this time to live such a life.
Sylvia had no intention of being compensated in life. She also knew that no one could compensate her, as the name Jacques and the subtle mockery would follow her throughout her life.
It was a permanent scar.
So, if she had to embrace wounds that couldn’t be healed, it was only fair to return an equal amount of hurt to the one who had caused those wounds.
‘…He toyed with me. Had a brief moment of enjoyment poking at me while I struggled.’
Sylvia looked up with a pale, beautiful face.
Now it’s your turn.
In the meanwhile, Raniero couldn’t take her words in. It was the first time he had ever experienced something bad happening to him outside of his awareness. The moment when she whispered her love to him wouldn’t leave his mind.
Angelica said she loved him.
There was no way she would leave behind the one she loved.
He constantly struggled to connect the Angelica in his mind with the current situation, trying to understand. At the same time, he ignored and forgot Sylvia’s words, ‘Because of how dreadful you are.’ It was because the moment he accepted them, it felt like he couldn’t bear it.
He smiled.
The corners of his lips lifted, so you could say he was smiling, but no one in the room thought that he was actually smiling.
“Hunt…”
Those words flowed from his mouth.
‘Ah, yes. This is it.’
It was the answer that solved all his questions about this phenomenon in a heartbeat.
Come to think of it, Angelica was his winter prey, and she hadn’t stopped thinking about it. The traces of arrows stuck in tree trunks were in preparation for the winter hunt.
“Yes, winter hunting. It’s winter hunting. It looks like a larger hunting ground is needed.”
All this commotion seemed to be a cute diversion prepared by his wife.
Thinking that way, his heart felt much lighter, yet his hands still trembled. As he pointed the hilt of his sword at Sylvia, his face was painted with a seemingly relaxed smile as if he had seen through it. However, in her eyes, it was clear that he was pretending to be at ease.
His eyelids fluttered.
“I consider the attempt to be hypothetical. Though the Empress loves me, so…”
“The Empress has never loved you.”
Raniero closed his eyes and gritted his teeth at those words. His face flushed red, and the veins in his neck bulged.
“Shut up.”
“She was thinking about running away the whole time.”
“You don’t know her. Angelica can’t lie.”
That was the only straw he could grasp onto. Angelica couldn’t lie. Whenever she tried to lie, he always saw through it instantly. His wife couldn’t muster the courage to lie to him since she was afraid that he would get angry if he found out.
His anger was the thing she feared most in the world.
Sylvia’s laughter was sharp.
“Now, she’s proven that it can be done.”
Raniero looked at the woman next to Sylvia. He couldn’t recognize her face, but logically, this woman must be the handmaiden, Cisen.
He pointed at her and tried to refute Sylvia’s words once again.
“This woman is a maid that my wife cherished as if she were her own body, and there’s no way she would ever leave her behind. Your attempts to try to destroy me with lies end here.”
Then, he asked with his gaze what kind of response she was going to make here.
Sylvia didn’t back down from there, but rather, she only intensified her taunting.
“You seem to know the Empress quite well, yet why didn’t you know that she wanted to run away all along?”
A bloody grinding sound came from Raniero’s clenched teeth as veins appeared in his widened eyes.
He drew his sword.
‘I’ll cut out that tongue that tries to deceive me.’
As he raised the drawn sword, the sunlight reflected off the shining blade was dazzling. His mind was filled with thick fog. Every part inscribed with Angelica’s name was horribly tarnished. The confidence and arrogance that had once shone in him were now stained with frustration.
He writhed in emotional anguish.
