Time-Limited Saintess, You've Been Caught by the Tyrant Once Again - Chapter 92
Chapter 46.2
“However, the Princess seems a bit anxious, so I think she might need some help during the baptism ceremony. I’d like to ask for your assistance…”
The word ‘request’ came unexpectedly from Arkan’s usually stiff lips. Liliana nodded.
“Of course.”
“It’s fortunate that the Saintess is so gracious.”
Arkan kept a friendly smile on his face. Then, he turned again and gestured for Ellin to step forward.
Liliana looked at Ellin with a confused expression.
‘What, Ellin? What’s going on?’
Though she wasn’t wearing a crown, Ellin was dressed in white and had adorned herself, which drew the attention of those around her.
Arkan smiled gently.
“Isn’t this the person from back then?”
At that moment, one of the priests standing behind Liliana spoke up, instantly recognizing Ellin as the one who had sold the Golden Bible. The previously warm atmosphere turned tense once again.
Arkan, feigning ignorance, glanced at the priests.
“It’s a relief I don’t need to explain who Lady Ellin is. It seems this young lady will be accompanying Charlotte throughout the day.”
“But that woman… she’s a sinner who was banished, Your Majesty.”
Ellin’s expression immediately hardened. Arkan glanced at her before addressing the blonde paladin who had been standing beside Liliana.
“So, does that mean she can’t be here?”
Liliana then noticed the paladin, who had been blending into the background.
It was Maynard.
She had been so distracted by Arkan that she had forgotten about him.
Liliana trusted Maynard. He had always been a loyal paladin to her, so naturally, she expected him to refuse.
“The temple has no authority to obstruct Your Majesty’s decision.”
As Maynard spoke stiffly, Liliana’s eyes widened in surprise.
‘Why? Why on earth…?’
The priests behind Liliana stood firm.
“But, Your Majesty, placing a sinner alongside the Saintess is an insult to her.”
“An insult?”
Arkan looked incredulous.
“So, has Lady Ellin been deemed a sinner by your judgment?”
Arkan directed the question to Maynard, who briefly glanced at Ellin’s face before answering.
“No.”
Liliana’s face turned ashen, and the priests were equally shocked.
It was an incident that had once caused a stir in the temple. Everyone had condemned Ellin, and Maynard had kept silent. Yet suddenly, he suddenly claimed it wasn’t true?
“While it has been said that Lady Ellin was banished, I don’t consider her a sinner.”
“….”
Ellin was surprised in that moment. She hadn’t expected Maynard to take her side. When she glanced at him, she saw him gazing at Liliana with a calm expression.
“Sir Maynard, why?”
Noticing her bewildered expression, Maynard spoke quietly.
“It’s not that I disrespect the Saintess’s judgment, but we cannot impose restrictions on everything concerning someone who has left the temple.”
“….”
“Furthermore, I don’t believe that Lady Ellin sold it.”
Liliana’s face flushed bright red with anger.
He had always been a righteous and respected knight. His defense of Ellin left the priests just as confused.
“It seems there are differing opinions even within the temple. Do I really need to heed your words?”
No one could respond to Arkan’s statement. If Maynard had been just another paladin, it might have been different, but he was a renowned paladin. Liliana’s face turned as red as a cherry. Her blue eyes burned with anger and hatred as she glared at Ellin.
Arkan noticed this and spoke with a gentle tone.
“Saintess, it’s not that I have any other intentions; it’s just that Charlotte is feeling anxious.”
As Arkan gestured toward Charlotte, the maid released her hand. The child approached and nestled into Ellin’s embrace. Charlotte’s condition had worsened due to the attending priest, and seeing his sister in that state ignited an unbearable rage within the temple. However, Arkan fought to keep his emotions under control.
It would be foolish to reveal that anger prematurely.
Marquis Kasmin’s words were right.
He placed his hands on Liliana’s shoulders. His strong, large hand gently but firmly held her delicate shoulder.
“So, you must show mercy.”
As he whispered in a low voice, Liliana trembled slightly.
“I… I understand.”
Arkan smiled as he watched Ellin. He had insulted Liliana and provided her with an opportunity to be in the spotlight.
Being invited to accompany the princess on her birthday and at the baptism ceremony was an honor no maid could experience. It was something a slave could only dream of, so he naturally assumed Ellin would like it. He even had a slight expectation that she would look at him with a grateful smile.
However, the Ellin he was looking at cast a glance of disdain at him before turning her gaze away.
It was then that Arkan realized Ellin was still angry.
The first thought that crossed his mind wasn’t resentment or anger, but rather a sense of emptiness.
