Time-Limited Saintess, You've Been Caught by the Tyrant Once Again - Chapter 53
Chapter 27.1
“Answer me. What are you doing now?”
A cold voice, tinged with anger, rang out. He was the Emperor who, not so long ago, had painted the palace with blood. His anger had the power to terrify people, leaving them unable to move.
It was at a time when the women shuddered with a premonition of their own deaths that Ellin calmly opened her mouth.
“I tried to appease Her Highness the Princess.”
Despite the fact that everyone was overwhelmed and pinned down by Arkan’s presence, she was the only one who remained unperturbed. There wasn’t even a trace of fear in her expression. It was to the extent of being admirable.
Even the frightened Melissa admired her amidst it all.
“Who told you to touch the Princess?”
“I couldn’t leave her alone because she seemed unwell.”
At her words, Arkan stepped closer to her. His red eyes were radiating with light at a glance. While Ellin was nervous, wondering if this would be what it would feel like to face a beast, at the same time, she remained calm.
It was just because it didn’t seem like Arkan was going to kill her.
“I made a mistake. If I thought about it, it would’ve been forbidden for someone without permission to lay hands on the noble body of the imperial family.”
Her expression as she confessed her mistake was still calm.
“I’ll accept all the punishment.”
“Punishment? Why bother? Wouldn’t it be easier for me to kill you?”
The servants watched the confrontation between Ellin and Arkan with trepidation. Fortunately, the Emperor’s wrath seemed to be directed only at that strange woman. Just when it seemed like they could forget about it, it looked like blood would flow again as the strange woman opened her mouth without fear.
“I apologize for approaching Her Highness the Princess without permission. However, I know the reason she was like that, and so I couldn’t help but approach her.”
Arkan continued to look at her as if urging her to speak.
Ironically, it was Ellin who was taken aback. He probably didn’t know about Charlotte’s infection, right?
She cautiously spoke up.
“Her Highness the Princess was suffering from an ear infection.”
“…I guess you must be a physician. I had no idea.”
Upon hearing his murderous sarcasm, rather than being intimidated by it, she realized that her infection wasn’t known to Arkan.
She quickly shook her head.
“I’ve seen it when I lived on the streets. For people suffering from ear infections, hearing every sound was excruciating for them. They’d scream as if their ears were being torn apart whenever they heard a sound.”
Since it wouldn’t be credible to say she had read medical books, she made up a plausible lie.
Arkan glanced at Charlotte nestled in Ellin’s arms.
His sister, who had the same red eyes just like his, burrowed deeper into Ellin’s embrace as if she were afraid.
“Summon the imperial physician.”
“….”
“If it’s not an ear infection, I’ll slit your throat.”
“I’ll accept it.”
The calm face in the face of death was still unchanged.
Then, instead of Ellin, he looked at Charlotte, who, for some reason, wasn’t screaming. His sister lowered her head, refusing to make eye contact with him. It seemed that she was more afraid of her older brother than Ellin, whom she had just met.
Arkan let out a small sigh.
He completely turned away from his flesh and blood. The brother and sister never looked at each other that way.
‘I’m sure it’s not that he hates the Princess…’
Ellin looked back and forth between Charlotte and Arkan before she eventually opened her mouth again.
“Your Highness, you should greet your brother.”
Charlotte, who had been trembling and bowing her head, slowly raised her head at Ellin’s sweet whisper.
“Brother?”
“Yes.”
“Bro…ther.”
[ T/N: The author used the word ‘오라버니,’ which is the old-fashioned way of referring to your older brother, which isn’t used anymore in the modern day. ]
As Charlotte called him with an uncertain pronunciation, Arkan, with his eyes widened, turned his body again to look at his sister.
Charlotte smiled.
“Brother!”
‘Ah! It seems Charlotte didn’t recognize Arkhan. She must have been afraid, thinking he was a stranger.’
With a big smile, the little girl finally broke free from Ellin’s embrace and ran to her brother, though the problem was that she was still holding her hand. So, she was vaguely dragged along by Charlotte and stood right in front of Arkan. The child then smiled playfully and grabbed his hand with her other hand.
It was the first time Ellin had seen him so flustered. He flinched sharply when his sister took his hand as if it were a piece of iron being heated in a fire.
“Brother, brother!”
“Do you… remember me?”
“Brother!”
Arkan had a strange expression on his face. It seemed like he was both smiling and feeling sorrowful. Soon, a very small smile, only she could detect, formed at the corner of his mouth.
Before she knew it, she was looking at it up close.
She couldn’t believe he was a person who could make such an expression. Ellin was surprised by that.
“I, not… hurt.”
“Huh?”
“Ear, not… hurt…”
Then, as Charlotte grabbed Ellin’s hand and shook it as though she had made her feel better, Arkan stared at Ellin with a suspicious expression.
In any case, he would find out when the imperial physician arrived.
Ellin, feeling embarrassed and not knowing what to do, took out an earring from her hands. It was given to her by Erich. It was only later that she realized that it was in her hands.
“Actually, I forgot to mention, but a priest once imbued this earring with divine power. As soon as I found out about the ear infection, I used it.”
“How…”
‘…She used divine power without being seen by a professional doctor?’
Just as Arkan was about to express his anger, Charlotte held his hand and shook her head.
“I apologize for acting without Your Majesty’s permission. I’ll gladly accept all the punishment.”
“You say you’ll gladly accept the punishment, but do you know how many presumptuous things you’ve committed?”
Even though he spoke with a growl, Ellin remained confident.
“It was to treat the ailing Princess. Even if I could turn back time, I would commit those presumptuous actions again to heal Her Highness.”
Arkan glared at her fiercely.
At that moment, when Charlotte suddenly grabbed her hand and shook it, Ellin looked at the child with a bright smile.
…She was smiling?
Couldn’t she hear that he said that he was going to kill her?
