It had been four years ever since Lehman had started approaching Ethan.
In that time, just as he had poured effort into Jeremy, he poured the same amount into Ethan.
And yet, why… Why was Ethan protecting Reina, not Lehman?
Wronged. Upset. Crestfallen.
No, those words weren’t enough. Lehman didn’t know how to put into words just what exactly he was feeling right now.
“Oh, and let’s clear up one more misunderstanding.”
Slightly raising the corners of his lips, Ethan took a step closer to Reina.
“Reina no longer calls me ‘my love’. Unfortunately for me.”
After Ethan said this, Lehman closed his eyes tightly. As if he was trying to endure, he also bit the inside of one cheek.
‘Unfortunately, he said…’
So many rumors were going around about how he’d been treating Reina coldly these days, but were all of them false?
“From some point on, a line got drawn between us and now she keeps calling me formally.”
Just as taken aback by the others here, Reina took a step back unconsciously. Then, Ethan tilted his head to the side slightly, fixing his eyes upon her lavender eyes.
“But really, I would prefer it if you just continue calling me ‘my love’.”
Suddenly drawing closer to her, Ethan looked into Reina’s eyes relentlessly, stubbornly.
“My love. Call me like that again.”
Everyone gasped at the shocking scene that unfolded before them, their full attention on the two.
“Go on, Reina.”
Standing beneath the stark spotlight on the stage, Reina was eventually pressured to answer.
“My… Ethan? How about ‘my Ethan’?”
Listening to her timid call, Ethan burst into laughter.
And at that same moment, an unbearable sense of defeat sprang up from within Lehman.
“Calling me by my first name doesn’t sound bad either. But I would prefer ‘my love’, Reina.”
My love? Lehman couldn’t help but inwardly laugh bitterly.
Ethan spoke so tenderly only with her.
‘Why…’
This was a question that he had asked himself more than a hundred times, but it still remained unanswered.
‘Why Reina and not me?’
For such a long time now, Lehman had been meeting up with Ethan once a month, drinking tea together as they talked about the problem of the monsters cropping up. They also discussed the future of the empire.
Lehman made sure to gather small rumors surrounding Ethan’s father, Duke Liam, and presented himself according to his preferences. This was to ensure that he could leave a pleasant impression amongst the people in the Liam household.
He did all that effort and hard work just so he could carry himself with confidence as he’d stand next to Ethan. None of that was done by that half-witted youngest child of House Chantra.
Yet why… Why in the world was Ethan’s gaze fixed on that incompetent woman?
Was this what it felt like to have your insides all twisted up?
That stupid woman had taken everything from him—that disgusting woman.
Even so, as if Lehman’s twisted insides were of no importance at all, Ethan reached out to Reina and crooned to her in such a sweet voice.
“It’s late, so shall we go, Reina?”
In the end, it was a complete and utter defeat for Lehman Karr.

Reina could not help but be shocked. Ethan was acting so differently—his expression had changed and even his tone of voice had changed, to the point that she even asked herself whether this was the same person as before.
‘This guy, just, what the heck’s wrong with him…!’
She was already going crazy enough after going through what she did today, but then Ethan appeared and just made her feel even crazier.
And what’s up with him saying that she should call him ‘my love’ again? What did he mean when he said it’s unfortunate for him that she had drawn the line?
You’re the one who told me to be mindful of private and public matters!
“Come on, Reina. It’s getting late.”
“L-Late…? Late for what…?”
“You promised to guide me, didn’t you?”
“…I-I did?”
When she asked back, he brushed it off as though she had just ‘forgotten’ it, smiling at her with his eyes curved like crescent moons.
“Yes. You said you’d show me around the Academy today, Reina.”
Was it because he insisted in such a certain manner? For a moment, even Reina herself got confused as to whether or not she really made that promise with Ethan.
“Uh… I did… didn’t I?”
“Yes.”
Hoodwinked. That’s what she was right now.
Completely duped by his quiet confidence, Reina blankly placed her hand on Ethan’s waiting palm.
“Then, let’s go, Reina.”
“Uh… Sure.”
Which part of the academy did she say she’d show him?
‘No, wait a second… Isn’t this guy an Academy alum?’
So what kind of guiding did he need? He should know the place better than herself, shouldn’t he?

Reina and Ethan headed for none other than the dining hall that’s exclusive to members of the nine households.
It wasn’t the usual time for a meal, so there wasn’t anyone else there. Even so, the chefs were always on standby so that the members of the founding families could be served any time of the day.
It didn’t take long for their food to come out—a tasty-looking salad, a mouthwatering beef steak, and a well-cooked asparagus dish.
“Should I ask them to bring out one more serving of the steak?”
After eating the salad as their appetizer, they soon moved on to their entrée. With a worried look on his face, Ethan asked her this question as he cut the steak on Reina’s plate.
“Uh… No, thank you. I-I’m alright.”
She had to wonder if she was terrible at slicing meat, seeing as both Paul and Ethan were much too enthusiastic about doing it for her.
Feeling slightly embarrassed, Reina set down her knife on the table and just used her fork to bring a piece of meat to her mouth.
This time though, Ethan was anxious about her eating speed.
“You’re going to have an upset stomach. Eat slowly now.”
“……”
No, seriously.
What’s wrong with him…
He suddenly came all the way here at the academy… And he said he’s here because he had an appointment.
But right now, he’s just eating like this with seemingly no care for said appointment…
‘He said he heard my voice on his way to the Dean’s office. That’s suspicious, too.’
The dean’s office and the garden where Reina’s gardening class was being held were located in two separate corners of the campus grounds. But then he said he found himself there because he heard her voice ‘by chance’.
