Chapter 250

Hearing this unsettling statement, Ethan’s eyebrows twitched slightly.
Then Count Venzen, appropriately dressed in the unique armor of the archery family, quickly added an explanation.
“She seems to have had a tiring journey. After finishing all negotiations and sending a message to Your Excellency, she fell asleep immediately.”
“…Asleep?”
“Yes, she’s in deep sleep, I’ve been told.”
“……”
Ethan’s shoulders, tense with worry that something bad might have happened to Reina, relaxed.
“Reina, she really…”
A laugh escaped him, unbidden.
Yes, even granting that she was tired enough to need rest.
And from what he had heard through the grand duke, Venzen had also fully committed to the reforms, which was reassuring.
“But still…”
Wasn’t this too calm?
Truly, she was unpredictable.
‘Right. It was because she was like that, that my attention kept going back to her.’
That’s how he had completely fallen for her.
Recalling the past lightly, Ethan smiled softly and said to the count,
“Still, please lead me to the room where Reina is.”
That brief period she was absent… It could be described with thousands of fanciful words and still fall short.
Ethan’s life without Reina was precarious, painfully isolated as if caught in a violent storm without a break, his body swaying not knowing where he was anymore.
In those almost despairing moments, through that unknowable pain, the only thing that clearly held his consciousness was one thing.
Reina Chantra. Yes. Only his longing and love for her had driven him.
Therefore, Ethan no longer wanted to be apart from her for even a moment.
If she was sleeping, he would watch over his sleeping lover. He would wait for her lavender eyes to reveal themselves to him, for her warm touch to reach him.
Lost in these thoughts, he walked until he arrived at the room where she was supposedly sleeping.
Fortunately, contrary to what Count Venzen had said, Reina was not asleep.
“Ethan!”
As he opened the door and entered, the woman sitting at the table in the center of the room instantly relaxed her serious expression and jumped to her feet.
The way all her defenses melted in an instant softened Ethan’s heart.
“Reina.”
Why did you follow Grace without telling me? She didn’t harm you, did she? I would have come to you if you had waited just a bit longer. How did you escape? Are you hurt anywhere?
The questions that had been swirling in Ethan’s heart for what felt like an eternity dissipated in an instant. The worries and reproaches that had been clamoring to burst out until he opened the door lost their strength and sank quietly.
The assurance that the bright expression and happy face she wore were meant only for him made nothing else matter.
So instead of talking about the past or the future, Ethan asked about the present.
“Weren’t you sleeping?”
“I did for a bit. But it felt like you were about to arrive, so I woke up.”
She murmured as she snuggled into his embrace.
“I missed you, Ethan.”
“Me too.”
“I was so scared.”
“Me too.”
Reina tilted her head slightly as she stepped back from the embrace, puzzled by his repeated responses.
“Ethan, you were also scared? Why?”
He kissed the corners of her eyes and brushed back her tangled lavender hair.
“I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to tell you I love you anymore.”
His straightforward yet heartfelt confession made Reina gently wrinkle the corners of her eyes.
“Me too. I was afraid that I might be separated from you forever.”
“I have no intention of ever being apart from you again.”
He murmured as if making a vow, pulling her close with strength.
“Even if the dragonfolk themselves intervene, no one will be able to separate me from Reina’s side.”
Reina burst into laughter, then hugged Ethan’s waist tightly, mimicking his gesture.
Just then, a coughing sound was heard.
She exclaimed “Ah!” and quickly stepped out of Ethan’s embrace, as Count Venzen, who had been observing the reunion of the two lovers, stepped back understandingly.
“We’ll leave you be.”
The count gestured to the knights and servants nearby to clear the area.
As the bustling crowd dispersed, Reina, with a lighter expression, led her lover to a sofa in the corner of the room.
Ethan embraced Reina like a lettuce wrapping around grilled meat. He then buried his face in her neck, murmuring,
“I can’t stand it anymore.”
As Reina giggled at the ticklish sensation, Ethan dug deeper into her neck.
Eventually, Reina tried to push Ethan away slightly, turning her head.
“It’s really ticklish, Ethan.”
“It’s been a long time, so please bear with it.”
“That’s not how it works.”
“It’s your punishment for not telling me about meeting Minister Grace.”
After a bout of laughter, Reina managed to suppress her giggles and soon Ethan about his earlier statement.
“Alright. But what do you mean you can’t stand it anymore?”
With Reina’s laughter ringing like music, Ethan whispered in a low voice,
“Reina. I want to do it.”
