The Reason Why She Can’t Get Married - Chapter 86
Chapter 86
“Then how about this one? This woman recently fell for her direct superior, but he mistakenly thinks she’s a man. She wants to subtly clear up this misunderstanding during the festival and, well, get together with him.”
“Ooh, Lucy. That’s interesting.” But after taking the request from Lucy and reading it properly, Selena wasn’t particularly drawn to it.
“Isn’t there a love that must be fulfilled during the festival? I feel like there has to be at least one.”
The three of them diligently rummaged through the requests, searching for the perfect festival match. As time passed, their postures, initially upright on the sofa, became increasingly relaxed.
“Ugh, my back.” Selena half-lay on the sofa, hugging a cushion. There’s no request that really screams ‘This is it!’
Usually, during these events, there would be a peculiar or intriguing request tailored to the occasion. But this year, the requests that came to were all rather ordinary. It seemed this year’s festival was destined to be uneventful. Letting out a small sigh, Selena unconsciously picked up a request that caught her fingertip.
Hmm? An anonymous request? This was a first, a complete disregard for Serenade’s fundamental rule of using real names. It wasn’t like Rio’s case of providing false information; this was outright anonymity.
People in love tended to be surprisingly open about themselves, perhaps due to the burden of carrying their feelings alone.
It’s against the rules, but should I read it?
The request, once she started reading, was certainly unique.
[I’m interested in a certain woman, you see. If she’s chosen as the Summer Fairy during this festival, I plan to propose. So, I want you to make her the Summer Fairy. I’ll pay whatever you ask.]
It jumped straight to the point without any pleasantries, stating only the client’s needs succinctly. But one part, in particular, caught Selena’s attention.
Hmm, the Summer Fairy?
The Summer Fairy was an unmarried noblewoman chosen as the representative of the festival. Participants volunteered, underwent document screening, and then the chosen candidates took a test.
The winner received a rose made of gold and diamonds as a special prize. It was also a golden opportunity to become the most sought-after individual in the summer social season.
This definitely needs to be handled during the festival. If the proposal hinged on the woman becoming the Summer Fairy, that is.
“Guys, take a look at this request.”
“Yes? What is it?” Selena handed the anonymous request to Lucy and Randy.
“Even though it’s all ‘you see’ this and ‘you see’ that, it somehow feels… intriguing, don’t you think?”
“It is. It’s the shortest and strangest request we’ve seen so far, but that’s what makes it seem interesting.” Lucy pushed her glasses up her nose and nodded. This was why individuality was so important. Among the countless requests, this one stood out.
“Shall we take this one for the festival? All in favor, raise your hand.” Selena raised her hand first, followed by Lucy and Randy.
“Alright, it’s unanimously decided that we’ll accept this request.”
Clap, clap, clap. Completely unaware of the chaos this request would unleash, Selena clapped and smiled brightly. Ignorance truly was bliss.
The anonymous request specified a back-alley tavern as the return address, which was also unusual. As instructed, they sent their reply to the tavern, but instead of a person, another letter arrived.
[Do we really need to meet, you see? I’d prefer to just exchange letters for this request. I can’t tell you exactly who the woman is. You can either participate in the Summer Fairy selection yourself or figure it out on your own, you see.
If I had to describe her, she’s audacious, foolish, arrogant, and irritating, but even more irritating when she’s not around. She’s like a pearl dipped in saltwater, you see. Ah, she’s also like seaweed soaked in water. And like a dog running around without a clue, oblivious to its owner. So, I doubt she’ll be chosen as the Summer Fairy on her own, which is why I’m leaving it to you, you see.]
“Is he in love with his enemy’s daughter or something?”
That was Selena’s impression after reading the reply filled with words that were both insults and compliments. It sounded more like hatred than love.
“I’m having second thoughts, Lucy. Should we take this, or not?”
“We’ve already decided, my lady. When will we ever get another request this extraordinary?”
“True. These kinds of requests only come around during special events like festivals.” It was as if people needed a reason, an event, to suddenly go a little crazy.
“To handle this request, I think I’ll have to participate in the Summer Fairy selection myself.”
“Are you sure? I hear the test is simple yet tricky. And there will be a lot of competitors.”
“Ha, Lucy. Have you forgotten who your lady is?”
Selena tossed her wavy brown hair over her shoulder and lifted her chin proudly. “I’ll beat anyone who comes my way.”
“That confidence alone makes you seem more like a queen than a Summer Fairy.”
“That’s a compliment, right?”
“Of course. You’re my lady, after all.” Lucy nodded sincerely. Selena’s overflowing confidence was one of her favorite qualities.
“But honestly, I don’t actually want to be the Summer Fairy. I just need to find the woman in this request and make her the fairy. So, it doesn’t really matter.”
“Then I’ll go submit the application form.”
“Good.” Selena readily agreed. This was the first time they’d handled a request where both the client’s and the target’s identities were completely hidden.
They had to find the target themselves and somehow ensure the request was successful. It felt like a treasure hunt.
I wonder what kind of people they are. She was incredibly curious about both the client and the woman in the request, and what circumstances led to such an intriguing request.
