The Reason Why She Can’t Get Married - Chapter 13
Chapter 13
Selena was taken aback, and Noel watched her with a worried expression before calmly speaking.
“It’s dangerous to walk while looking down. You could trip or hit a pillar.”
“Oh, yes…”
Even though Selena had only hit herself on the pillar, he gave her serious advice.
Selena didn’t know what to say and trailed off.
‘I thought only the prince walked around the palace, but the duke does too. This must be the area where potential assassins appear.’
Selena straightened up, looking at her bruised arm.
“It’s okay; you can let go now.”
“Oh, I’m sorry. Did I grip too hard?”
“No, it’s fine. Thank you for your help, Duke. I’ll be going now.”
Selena quickly sorted out the situation, not wanting to talk to the dangerous husband candidate for more than 10 seconds. She gracefully bowed and left.
Was it okay? I won’t get caught, right?
Noel’s lips seemed to want to say something, but Selena pretended not to notice and walked away.
Randy followed her quickly. Clack, clack. Thump, thump.
The clean marble floor of the palace echoed their footsteps. Three instead of two.
Selena had known from the beginning that there were two sets of footsteps following her, but she finally turned around when they reached the waiting room.
“Yes…?”
“Duke.”
Surprised, Randy walked past her, and Selena stood in front of Noel.
Noel smiled kindly at her. “Yes, lady.”
“Why do you keep following me?”
“Well, that’s a good question.” Noel stroked his chin with his gloved hand.
Was he trying to show off his sharp jawline to her? His posture could very well be turned into a statue with just the gesture of his hand on his chin.
But what’s important now is not his appearance but the fact that he’s one of the husband candidates trying to kill her. So Selena asked firmly, with a face that wouldn’t allow even a needle to slip in.
“Do you have an interest in me?”
It was suspicious how he had been hanging around her since the wedding.
He even proposed to her before she went back in time. If he says he’s interested, she has to cut him off right here. Then he won’t propose.
“Me? Oh, yes, what…”
As Noel nodded, Selena’s gaze became sharp.
“I don’t know why the Duke is interested in me. We only met for the first time last time, but you seem to be interested in my face only. Is it because of my appearance?”
Selena had actually received countless confessions from men based solely on her appearance, and while she was too busy with work to accept them all, she was undeniably a beauty that no one could resist.
“Lady, I…”
“I’m sorry, but I really dislike it when someone is only interested in my face. It makes you feel shallow.”
“That’s true.”
“Right? So please don’t pretend to know me next time.”
With a flip of her beautiful chestnut hair, Selena turned and was about to leave. “Oh, lady, I’m sorry, but can you listen to me one more time before you go?”
Noel, who had quickly surpassed Selena with his long legs, stood in front of her.
Selena’s eyebrows twisted in annoyance. As if telling her to say something, Noel opened his mouth and slowly brushed his fingertips down his neck.
“Um, lady, did you happen to lose a bag last time? A small, white bag.”
“Um, yes, that’s right. But how did you…”
Selena’s eyes widened as she remembered the white bag she had lost at her sister’s wedding.
Noel replied with a kind smile, “I found it and kept it safe. I wanted to return it to you right away, but I didn’t have a chance to talk to you.”
“….”
Memories of the wedding day flooded Selena’s mind. Noel Ratliffe, who kept looking at her and had something to say, meanwhile, was trying to desperately ignore him.
Ah, he was telling her to take the bag all along. When she realized the truth, she felt as if a jolt of energy was rushing up from her feet.
Noel chuckled at Selena, whose cheeks instantly turned red. He politely put his hands behind his back and slightly bowed his waist to meet Selena’s gaze.
“And I’ve never said that you have a pretty face.”
“…That, that, that…”
Can someone please knock him out?
It seemed possible for a person to roll their eyes and faint when their embarrassment reached its limit.
Selena was about to do just that. Before she could collapse, Noel opened his mouth again. “But I did think to myself that you were pretty. I didn’t say it out loud because it’s impolite to compliment someone’s appearance upon meeting them for the first time.”
“….”
Selena leaned back and stepped back, Noel’s complexion still gleaming whether she was close or far away.
Her face was now red beyond her neck and cheeks, all the way to her scalp.
