The Reason Why She Can’t Get Married - Chapter 12
Chapter 12
“You see, yesterday I was walking in the garden when suddenly a puppy jumped out of the grass. I was so startled that I screamed and fell backward. But then Dixon rushed towards me like an arrow and wrapped his arms around my waist…”
As Selena listened to Gabriella’s excited story about Dominic Dixon, she had an empty look in her eyes. This was a disaster. This was a complete disaster.
‘There was no way I can refuse a request from the princess with that face.’
Gabriella’s face was filled with the excitement and fluttering of a first love.
Every time Dominic’s name came up, Selena felt embarrassed and pleased at the same time. Having a weak spot for love, every time she met her sparkling eyes, her throat felt blocked, as if someone had put a stone in it.
She wondered why she only targeted her weaknesses and used unfair tactics. Completely losing her composure, Selena silently listened to Gabriella’s words. In between, she made appropriate responses, and Gabriella happily continued to talk.
As a result, Selena couldn’t find an opportunity to bring up her own circumstances, and time flew by quickly.
“Oops, I’m sorry. I talked too much, didn’t I?” Gabriella regained her senses when the teapot was almost empty and wore an embarrassed expression.
It was a meeting arranged at Selena’s request, but it seemed like she had only talked about herself. Selena smiled softly, tilting her head.
“No, it’s okay. I actually enjoyed hearing the princess’s stories.” “But still… Ah, that’s right. What was it that you wanted to tell me today?” Suddenly given the opportunity to speak, Selena was taken aback.
“Ah, well…”
“Just say it comfortably, Lady Irving.”
“Um, well, you see…Your Highness, do you and the Crown Prince have a close relationship?”
Selena blurted out the question that came to her mind without thinking. Why ask if the Crown Prince and Princess are close? They were siblings; what’s there to ask? Especially when the Crown Prince even threatened her because of his sister!
Even though it was a foolish question from Selena, Gabriella smiled and answered, “Yes, we’re close. Even though siblings who are family can have distant relationships, we get along very well.”
“Ah… so His Highness also knows about the Princess’s unrequited love?”
“Yes, of course. We’ve even had a few consultations about it. His Highness isn’t interested in such things, so I had to handle it on my own.”
No, Your Highness. The Crown Prince was very interested. He even went so far as to threaten her. Suppressing the urge for the truth to slip out, Selena desperately held back and asked her next question.
In fact, that was what she wanted to ask.
“Has His Highness opposed it?” He made a fuss and threatened her with a sword, so naturally, Selena wondered how he treated his sister.
If he showed even a hint of disapproval, why would he ask her to refuse the commission…
“Not at all. He may not be interested, but he didn’t oppose it. If anything, I think Brother would cheer me on. He may be awkward in expressing it, but he’s a really good person.”
“….”
“Ah, did you worry because of Brother’s opposition? Don’t worry about that. Max is always on my side.” Gabriella smiled brightly in response to Selena’s failed attempt to use tricks despite the Crown Prince’s warning.
Selena laughed nervously. “Ah, I see. His Highness doesn’t oppose it…”
“No, so don’t worry about it.”
“Thank you, Your Highness…” Stuck between advancing and retreating, Selena realized there was nothing to gain from continuing this conversation. She slowly began to tidy up her place for the day.
“Well then, I’ll be going.”
“Already? Stay a little longer…” Gabriella grabbed Selena with a disappointed face.
“I’m sorry. I have some paperwork that’s piled up.”
“Well, it can’t be helped. Let’s meet outside next time.” Going back and forth to the palace, not knowing when the Crown Prince might appear, was torment for Selena.
She nodded and said, “I know a lot of great dessert places. I’ll introduce you to the best one, Your Highness.”
“Oh, how delightful. Then I’ll look forward to our next meeting.” Gabriella personally escorted Selena to the front of the Princess’s palace. Selena bowed to Gabriella and turned around, heading towards the carriage waiting area.
‘What should I do now…?’
She couldn’t even muster a word to refuse the commission. Selena walked with heavy footsteps, her shoulders slumping. Randy, who followed her like a shadow in place of the busy Lucy, noticed her gloomy face.
“Are you okay, Boss?”
“I couldn’t even say a word to the Princess. We’re done for, Randy.”
“Don’t be like that. We can tell her next time.”
“Next time? Will I even be able to say there’s a next time…?” Selena had no confidence.
Randy, seeing the increasingly downcast face of his boss, followed her hesitantly.
“Boss, look ahead and walk…”
“Oops.” Selena, who was staring at the ground and walking aimlessly, didn’t even notice someone blocking her path and bumped into them head-on. A firm hand grabbed the staggering Selena. She lifted her head to confirm the other person.
“Are you okay, lady?” Shining golden hair, bright blue eyes, perfectly symmetrical features, and a low and pleasant voice.
Noel Ratliffe smiled brightly. Selena stared blankly, looking into the sunny face that smiled at her. Why is he here…? Read ahead here.
